Scientists Made Human Eggs from Skin Cells and Used Them to Form Embryos

by admin September 30, 2025

“The biggest challenge is how to make this egg extrude half of its chromosomes—and the correct half,” Amato says. “We’re not quite there yet.” The team dubbed their technique “mitomeiosis” and is trying to better understand how chromosomes like to pair and how they segregate in order to find a way to experimentally induce those conditions.

The ability to make eggs and sperm in the lab—called in vitro gametogenesis, or IVG—has been a growing area of research in recent years.

In 2016, a group of Japanese researchers led by stem cell researcher Katsuhiko Hayashi reported that they produced healthy mouse pups after making mouse eggs entirely in a lab dish. Later, they generated mouse eggs using cells from males and as a result, created pups with two dads. Those advancements were achieved by reprogramming skin cells from adult mice into stem cells, then further coaxing them to develop into eggs and sperm.

Mitinori Saitou at Kyoto University first documented in 2018 how his team turned human blood cells into stem cells, which they then transformed into human eggs, but they were too immature to be fertilized to make embryos.

US startups Conception Biosciences, Ivy Natal, Gameto, and Ovelle Bio are all working on making eggs or sperm in a lab.

But the prospect raises significant ethical questions about how the technology should be used. In a 2017 editorial, bioethicists warned that IVG “may raise the specter of ‘embryo farming’ on a scale currently unimagined.” Conceivably, it could allow anyone at any age to have a child. And combined with advances in embryo screening, the fertility clinics of the future could use IVG to make mass numbers of embryos and then choose the ones with the most desirable qualities. Gene editing could also be used with IVG to snip out disease-causing DNA or create new traits.

Amato says it will likely take another decade of research before IVG could be deemed safe or effective enough to be tested in people. Even then, it’s unclear if the technique would be permitted in the US, since a Congressional rider forbids the Food and Drug Administration from considering clinical trials that involve genetically manipulating an embryo for the intention of creating a baby.

“Their method is very sophisticated and well-organized,” Hayashi, now a professor at the University of Osaka, says of the Oregon group’s approach. However, because of the high rate of chromosomal errors, “it is too inefficient and high risk to apply immediately to clinical application.”

Also, because their process requires donor eggs, it could limit its use as an infertility treatment. As more people turn to IVF to conceive, the demand for donor eggs is increasing, and using them can involve wait times.

Amander Clark, a reproductive scientist and stem cell biologist at UCLA who was not involved in the work, agrees that in its current form, mitomeiosis should not be offered for fertility care until more research is done. But in the meantime, the research has other uses.

“The technology of mitomeiosis is an important technical innovation and could be highly valuable to our understanding of the biology of meiosis in human eggs. Meiotic errors increase as women age. Therefore, understanding causes of meiotic errors is a critical area of research,” Clark says.

Just Cause Devs Announce UK Studio Closure And Layoffs

by admin September 30, 2025

Just Cause and Mad Max developer Avalanche Studios is closing up a studio in the United Kingdom and is laying off an undisclosed number of employees due to “current challenges to our business and the industry.”

On September 30, Avalanche Studios Group posted a short update on the company’s official site announcing that its UK development studio in Liverpool is being closed and that all employees will be “impacted.” Avalanche also confirmed in the same statement that layoffs are planned for its Swedish studios located in Malmö and Stockholm. The news of layoffs and a studio closure comes about two months after Avalanche and Xbox announced that the upcoming game Contraband was canceled.

Here’s Avalanche’s full statement as posted online:

In light of current challenges to our business and the industry, we have thoroughly reviewed how to best ensure Avalanche Studios Group’s long-term success. This review has led us to the difficult conclusion that we must make changes to our staffing and locations. As a result, we are proposing to close our Liverpool studio, and to initiate a collective consultation process, as required by UK law. This will impact all Avalanchers in Liverpool. The changes will also impact our other studio locations in Malmö and Stockholm, where we will reduce our workforce and restructure the teams to address our games’ needs.

Our immediate focus is to offer full support to all Avalanchers during this challenging time. Despite these changes, we remain deeply committed to providing amazing games to our passionate player communities.

Contraband was first announced back in 2021 and was going to be published by Xbox and developed primarily by Avalanche’s studio in Liverpool. However, four years later, we had heard very little about the game and its status. In August 2025, Xbox and Avalanche announced what most people expected: Development on Contraband was being halted as the studio “evaluated” the future of the game and its plans moving forward. And while the game isn’t mentioned directly in the statement above, it appears those involved with the evaluation have settled on layoffs.

This is just one of many, many, many layoffs to happen in the video game industry over the last few years as it becomes more expensive to develop bigger games and harder than ever to get people to play them, as titles like Fortnite, GTA Online, Call of Duty, and Roblox dominate the charts. And even if your game is a big hit, that doesn’t mean you’re safe.

Bitcoin Hyper as the Next 1000x Crypto After Whales Buy $329K in a Giant Move

by admin September 30, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

With ‘Uptober’ just around the corner (literally tomorrow), anticipation is building for what could be a pivotal moment for $BTC.

So, what better time for the Bitcoin Hyper Layer-2 (L2) to go live? Suppose this peak demand takes shape, it could position itself as a go-to solution for scaling Bitcoin, precisely when the network needs it most.

It’s no surprise, then, that whales have latched on. Just yesterday, three invested $113.8K, $109.9K, and $105.4K into the ecosystem’s $HYPER presale, signaling strong confidence in the L2’s potential.

$HYPER might even become the next 1000x crypto.

$BTC Rockets 4.5% in One Month, Before Possible October Rally

Since last month, $BTC has jumped by over 4.5%, a sign that bullish momentum may already be on the way.
Yes, $BTC has plummeted from $114K to $113K since just yesterday. But it’s not all doom and gloom for the #1 crypto.

Even during the most challenging market cycles, October is often a turning point where $BTC sentiment flips from bearish to bullish.

Take 2023 an example. After a modest 3.91% gain in September, it soared by 28.52% in October.

In fact, most years after a negative September, $BTC surges in October. Look at past Uptober rallies – In 2020, $BTC surges 27.7%+ and 47.81%+ in 2017.

Source: Coinglass

It’s also no wonder that institutions are positioning themselves for what might be another legendary spike.

As of September, Strategy now holds an eye-boggling 640,031 $BTC valued at $47.35B+. The average price per token is approximately $73,983.

Source: X (Michael Saylor)

Strategy isn’t the only public company acquiring sizable amounts of $BTC in the hope of capitalizing on the next bull run.

Over the past 30 days, MARA Holdings has boosted its stack to 52,477 $BTC valued at nearly $5.94B.

XXI also bets big on the crypto leader jumping to greater heights. In total, it owns 43,515 $BTC, currently worth around $4.92B.

Source: CoinGecko

When firms commit billions to $BTC, it validates the asset’s role as a store of value as opposed to being yet another speculative asset.

In turn, they fuel demand for $BTC and boost market confidence. But there’s a hitch: as $BTC’s popularity surges and transaction volumes increase, the network often faces mounting pressure.

Bitcoin Processes Fees 43%+ Slower Than Ethereum

Bitcoin’s no stranger to scalability challenges. Today, the network can process just 12.47 transactions per second (tps), 43.32% lower than Ethereum’s 22.01 tps.

Even at its record level, Bitcoin has only managed 13.2 tps – a far cry from Ethereum’s 62.34 tps and nowhere near Solana’s 65K tps.

The network’s limited throughput often causes higher gas costs during peak activity. Following the halving event last October, average transaction fees rose as high as $8.36 one month later.

While fees have since dropped to just $0.84, they’re still no stranger to fluctuating. This makes it tricky for everyday traders to rely on Bitcoin for everyday transactions.

Source: Bitcoin Hyper

The bridge achieves this by enabling $BTC to move seamlessly between the Bitcoin base layer and the Hyper L2 ecosystem. And once bridged, $BTC can interact directly with smart contracts, dApps, and liquidity protocols.

$HYPER Fuels L2 Growth & 61% Staking Rewards

$HYPER is behind the entire Hyper ecosystem, supercharging every inch of its utility and growth.

A sizable 30% of its total token supply is allocated to fund development, after all. Also fueling its long-term growth is an additional 25% of $HYPER being earmarked for the ecosystem treasury.

Source: Bitcoin Hyper

Holding $HYPER doesn’t only mean you’ll contribute to the project’s sustainability; it also unlocks meaningful utility.

By purchasing $HYPER on presale – now available for $0.013005 – you’ll gain governance rights, enjoy reduced gas fees, and stake your token at a 61% APY.

But time is of the essence: the APY will nosedive as more investors lock up their tokens. So, now’s an opportune moment to start staking $HYPER for the greatest possible gains.

Our Bitcoin Hyper price prediction also anticipates $HYPER to break $0.32 this year, after being listed on major CEXs.

‘Uptober’ Prep in Full Swing: 196,799,056 DOGE Moved Amid Rising Whale Activity

by admin September 30, 2025

With just a few hours remaining until October begins, dog-themed coin Dogecoin (DOGE) is seeing a flurry of whale activity. Blockchain data tracker Whale Alert recently reported millions of Doge shifted to major crypto exchange, Coinbase.

A total of 196,799,056 DOGE were shifted in two transactions reported by Whale Alert. This was moved from unknown wallets to major crypto exchange Coinbase.

Whale Alert reported that 94,565,083 DOGE worth $21,714,279 and 102,233,973 DOGE worth $23,475,229 were transferred from unknown wallets to Coinbase.

Deposits to exchanges might indicate intent to sell, but other reasons might be likely. At press time, Dogecoin was trading down 0.55% in the last 24 hours to $0.23 and down 4.73% weekly.

“Uptober” arrives

October is deemed positive for markets, referred to as “Uptober” in crypto parlance. Analysts have shared a bullish outlook for the broader crypto market, despite last week’s sell-off and institutional outflow.

The next few weeks remain significant for spot crypto ETFs, with final SEC deadlines approaching on numerous filings. The SEC is expected to make its decision on Dogecoin ETF filings as well as those of other cryptocurrencies, including Solana, Litecoin, XRP, ADA and HBAR.

Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas expressed similar expectation, writing in a tweet: “Who’s ready for Cointober? Spot crypto ETF Deadlines start this week! Litecoin and Solana up first. Should be a wild month.”

As reported, the SEC  has asked issuers, including those of DOGE ETFs, to withdraw their 19b-4 filings following the approval of the generic listing standard, which according to Balchunas made the 19b-4 review clock irrelevant, shifting the approval process to S-1 registrations.

Preparing for a quantum-safe future should begin today

by admin September 30, 2025

Data is today’s premier strategic asset. With quantum computing opening the floodgates for a new age of cyber threats, post-quantum cryptography (PQC) must become a cornerstone of security.

Preparing for a post-quantum future will require a significant time investment, one that business leaders cannot afford to put off.

They must give themselves time to refactor all their applications to ensure no measures slip through the cracks.

The future commoditization of quantum computing

Transitioning to PQC is an imperative. Almost all our technologies rely on cryptography to protect critical data in software. Once quantum cryptography falls into the hands of malicious actors, all this data will essentially be exposed.

It is only a matter of time before this happens. Like any other new technology, it will initially be expensive and difficult to acquire. As more players enter the market, this technology, too, will become commoditized.

AI followed a similar path. Before the launch of widely available LLMs like ChatGPT, AI was bound to niche technological applications or available only to researchers. However, with GenAI models rising in popularity, AI capabilities became widespread, becoming accessible to malicious actors.

We can imagine a similar fate for quantum computing, where the ramifications are a matter of survival for businesses. It will be that much easier for malicious actors to acquire these capabilities.

Regulatory standards

Authorities all over the world are taking note of the quantum risk, and the competition to become the leader in standard-setting is heating up.

While the regulatory landscape is still in its infancy, the UK, US, and EU have made significant developments recently in laying the groundwork for an approach.

The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) recently asked organizations to transition to quantum-resistant encryption methods by 2035.

You may like

The EU launched its Quantum Europe Strategy, taking a top-down approach to regulation, aiming to coordinate member states.

The US Department of Commerce’s NIST officially finalized the first set of encryption algorithms designed to withstand potential threats from quantum computers.

This means organizations need to stay vigilant to anticipate where regulation and standard-setting are headed. With competing approaches and interests, it will be important to find common ground and build compliance into preparations for PQC.

Most notable from existing standards is NIST’s proposed set of PQE algorithms. This is a good starting point toward global PQC standards and offers a valuable starting point for organizations looking to explore PQC options.

These are the new standards for encryption in PQC. Experimenting with these algorithms and developing processes and capabilities to transition to PQC will put businesses in a strong position for navigating standards and regulations.

The scale of the transformation required to be quantum-safe cannot be understated. Adopting quantum-resistant algorithms is technically complex and time-consuming. Organizations will need to refactor all their applications.

The time to act is now.

First port of call: excellence from within

It is essential to understand the necessary skills, processes, and evaluation frameworks for PQC are still being developed.

Yet the adoption of Post-Quantum Encryption (PQE), as published by NIST, requires organizations to experiment and test—often many times—and iterate a procedure throughout the company.

An intelligent way to align company resources and stakeholders is by establishing a Center of Excellence (CoE) to lead implementation.

What would a CoE look like? Centers of Excellence are forums where leaders from across the organization can meet to collaborate and strategize for the post-quantum transition.

They can also audit current applications and infrastructure for clarity and direction, gauging where the weak points lie, where dependencies are heaviest, and which processes will ease the adoption of PQE.

To start, leaders must assess the scale of the upgrade across their systems. This involves auditing current services and applications to see which rely on cryptography and identifying the programming languages (e.g., Java), operating systems, and frameworks (e.g., Spring) that will be affected.

It also includes considering available mitigations—for instance, RHEL 10 is the first Linux OS to fully support PQC. From there, they can set priorities for adopting PQC.

Importantly, Kubernetes, a core tool for managing containerized applications, has already taken a proactive step to support PQC in a hybrid approach ahead of time – showing that the industry is taking the threat of quantum computing and the need for PQC very seriously.

This update sets a strong precedent for other technologies to follow suit in ensuring their readiness for the post-quantum era. This proactive move is a prime example of how organizations should think ahead in adopting quantum-safe solutions before the full advent of quantum capabilities.

Updating entire IT infrastructures is a mammoth task for the industry. It requires updates not only to legacy systems but also to modern software that is not quantum-safe.

To increase the complexity, it isn’t solely an IT problem. PQC cuts across legal, compliance, product, procurement, and customer boundaries. A quantum Center of Excellence demands cross-functional leadership roles, not simply technologists.

The quantum class of tomorrow

Across much of the technology industry, the necessary IT skills are scarce. An estimated 44% of businesses have skills gaps in basic technical areas; quantum is no exception. But CoEs have the added benefit of upskilling workers, paving the way for future talent.

They set guardrails from structured training across the company, sifting out gaps in knowledge and creating a focused environment for learning emerging technologies and methods, while offering hands-on experience, mentoring, and certification opportunities.

The path to a quantum-safe future

Advancements in quantum technology are rapidly closing the gap between research and real-world applications. Industry leaders like Microsoft, Google, and IBM have already unveiled quantum chips, signaling that practical adoption is closer than many anticipated.

Rushing the transition to PQC without careful planning risks overlooking critical technical, operational, and regulatory considerations. A successful shift demands early action, strong leadership, and collaboration across departments.

Centers of Excellence (CoEs) can play a pivotal role in guiding organizations through this complexity, ensuring strategies are executed effectively. Those who take the lead in achieving quantum readiness today will be best equipped to thrive in a future defined by secure digital innovation.

BOB and LayerZero Enable BTC Transfers Across 11 Major Blockchains

by admin September 30, 2025

Decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol Build on Bitcoin (more commonly known as “BOB”) unveiled a system that lets BTC$113,053.81 holders move their assets into decentralized trading apps with a single click, the company said on Tuesday.

“BOB Gateway” connects native Bitcoin to LayerZero’s “omnichain fungible token” (OFT) version of wrapped BTC, an asset issued by BitGo. The integration extends to 11 blockchains including Ethereum, Avalanche and Base, bringing access to nearly 15,000 decentralized apps that can now support direct Bitcoin deposits.

Until now, most of these blockchains lacked a straightforward way to connect to Bitcoin. Users often had to navigate complex bridging processes, which carried both technical friction and security risks.

With BOB Gateway, they can move between native BTC and wBTC.OFT in one step, a change that could make strategies such as yield farming or looping trades more accessible to retail and institutional investors alike.

Yield farming and looping supply liquidity to DeFi platforms, acting as the foundation for lending, borrowing, and trading. This process allows users to earn significant passive income. Making these trades easier with native BTC — the largest and most trusted digital asset — would mobilize a massive pool of capital, increasing DeFi’s liquidity, security, and overall market maturity.

More than $2.3 billion worth of wBTC.OFT has already been bridged across 67,000 transfers on LayerZero, the companies said. By enabling direct inflows from native BTC, the gateway could bring fresh liquidity into DeFi markets that rely on wrapped bitcoin as collateral or trading pairs.

Alexei Zamyatin, co-founder of BOB, said the update “makes wBTC.OFT instantly accessible” across supported chains, while LayerZero’s Simon Baksys described the move as adding utility to “one of the most trusted assets in crypto.”

The rollout includes Ethereum, Avalanche, Base, Unichain, Soneium, Bera, Optimism, Sei, Sonic and BOB itself, covering much of the current DeFi landscape.

Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios closing UK studio in workforce restructure, following cancellation of Xbox exclusive Contraband

by admin September 30, 2025

Avalanche Studios is the latest developer to be impacted by layoffs, as the company’s UK studio is set to be closed as part of a workforce restructure that will impact its Swedish studios too.

The studio is known for the Just Cause series (not to be confused with Hogwarts Legacy developer Avalanche Software, owned by Warner Bros.) and was previously working on an Xbox exclusive called Contraband.

However, that project was cancelled by Microsoft back in August, with the studio writing in a statement: “Active development has now stopped while we evaluate the project’s future.”

Contraband – Official Reveal Trailer 4K | E3 2021Watch on YouTube

In a statement shared by the company today, the decision to restructure has been made “in light of current challenges to our business and the industry”.

It continued: “This review had led us to the difficult conclusion that we must make changes to our staffing and locations. As a result, we are proposing to close our Liverpool studio, and to initiate a collective consultation process, as required by UK law. This will impact all Avalanchers in Liverpool. The changes will also impact our other studio locations in Malmő and Stockholm, where we will reduce our workforce and restructure the teams to address our games’ needs.”

It concluded: “Despite these changes, we remain deeply committed to providing amazing games to our passionate player communities.” The statement does not mention Contraband and its cancellation specifically.

Contraband, a co-op smuggling game, was revealed in June 2021 at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, but little of the game has been shown since. Its official trailer has been removed from the Avalanche website, though you can see IGN’s video above.

Its cancellation arrived in the wake of layoffs across Microsoft in July, which resulted in the cancellation of multiple projects including The Initiative’s Perfect Dark, Rare’s Everwild, and an unannounced ZeniMax MMO.

Microsoft CEO and chairman Satya Nadella later claimed “Microsoft is thriving”, largely due to its investments in AI.

Back in 2024, Avalanche Studios entered a collective bargaining agreement with Swedish unions, which was planned to go into effect by the second quarter of this year.

“Over the past years, we’ve taken significant steps toward making Avalanche one of the best workplaces in the games industry,” Avalanche CEO Stefanía Halldórsdóttir said at the time.

This Prime Day deal gets you two Blink Mini 2 cameras for only $35

by admin September 30, 2025

Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days are coming up, and you can get a jump on things today. A mainstay of Prime Day sales, a pair of Blink Mini 2 cameras is on sale for only $35. That’s 50 percent off, a record low and less than what you’d usually pay for one. It’s also Engadget’s pick for the best budget security camera.

This is the newest (2024) model of Blink’s budget wired model. The camera is well-suited for nighttime video: It has a built-in LED spotlight, color night vision and a low-light sensor. Day or night, it records in sharp 1080p resolution. It also has a wider field of view than its predecessor.

Blink

The Blink Mini 2 is primarily designed for indoor use. But you can use it outdoors, too. You’ll just need to fork over $10 for a weather-resistant adapter. Wherever you use the camera, it works with Alexa and supports two-way audio. (“Hello, doggy, I’ll be home soon.”)

It also supports person detection. (That’s a neat feature that differentiates between people and other types of movement.) However, the feature requires a Blink Subscription Plan. They start at $3 per month or $30 per year for one device.

The camera is available in black or white. Both colors are available for the $35 Prime Day deal, but they can’t be mixed unless you buy each separately. It’s worth noting that this deal is open to anyone — no Prime subscription necessary. You can also save on a bunch of other Blink (and Ring) security gear. The Blink Outdoor 4 cameras are some of our favorites, and most configurations are on sale for Prime Day, including bundles like this three-camera system that’s 61 percent off.

SBI Ripple Asia signs MOU with Tobu Top Tours to develop tokenized payments

by admin September 30, 2025

SBI Ripple Asia is partnering with Tobu Top Tours to build closed-loop payment ecosystems. The venture will mint unique tokens for destinations and brands, tethering spending power to digital fan engagement and localized travel experiences.

Summary

  • SBI Ripple Asia and Tobu Top Tours signed an MOU to launch tokenized payment platform
  • Proprietary tokens on the XRP Ledger seek to support travel, retail, and fan economies
  • Service launch targeted for the first half of 2026

According to an announcement on Sept. 30, the two Japanese firms have inked a memorandum of understanding to build a new payment platform. Under the agreement, SBI Ripple Asia will issue proprietary tokens on the XRP Ledger, each tailored for partner companies and organizations.

Tobu Top Tours, a major travel and tourism operator, will leverage its industry clout to onboard partners, build out a network of affiliated stores, and develop marketing initiatives using NFTs functionally linked to these new tokens. The companies are targeting a service launch in the first half of 2026.

Tourism, fan economies, and other use cases

The memorandum outlines various use cases that move beyond theoretical applications. In tourism, the platform would issue tokens geographically locked to specific destinations, functioning as a digital currency for an entire town or shopping district.

SBI Ripple Asia said this would streamline the cashless experience for travelers and keep tourist spending circulating within the local economy. Notably, transactions could be paired with NFTs functioning as digital souvenirs or discount vouchers, creating a link between one-time visits and repeat engagement.

The model also proposes a new approach to disaster relief and regional aid. According to the companies, donations could be issued as tokens that are only spendable within the affected area, ensuring financial support goes directly to local businesses like restaurants and shops. This prevents aid from leaking out to national chains or online retailers, offering a transparent and targeted method to fuel grassroots economic recovery.
