Bitcoin (BTC) Mining Profitability Rose 2% in July, Jefferies Says

by admin August 18, 2025

Bitcoin

mining profitability increased 2% in July as the price of the world’s largest cryptocurrency rose 7% while the network hashrate jumped 5%, investment bank Jefferies said in a research report on Friday.

“We see positive BTC price momentum as most favorable for Galaxy’s (GLXY) digital assets business, while miners fight a rising network hashrate,” analyst Jonathan Petersen wrote.

The hashrate refers to the total combined computational power used to mine and process transactions on a proof-of-work blockchain, and is a proxy for competition in the industry and mining difficulty. It is measured in exahashes per second (EH/s).

U.S.-listed mining companies mined 3,622 bitcoin in July, versus 3,379 coins the month before, the report said, and these firms accounted for 26% of the total network compared to 25% in June.

IREN (IREN) mined the most bitcoin, with 728 tokens, followed by MARA Holdings (MARA) with 703 BTC, the bank noted.

Jefferies said MARA’s energized hashrate remains the largest of the sector, at 58.9 EH/s at the end of July, with CleanSpark (CLSK) second with 50 EH/s.

Revenue per exahash/second also increased. “A hypothetical one EH/s fleet of BTC miners would have generated ~$57k/day in revenue during July, vs ~$56k/day in June and ~$50k a year ago,” the analyst wrote.

Anthropic’s Claude AI now has the ability to end ‘distressing’ conversations

by admin August 18, 2025

Anthropic’s latest feature for two of its Claude AI models could be the beginning of the end for the AI jailbreaking community. The company announced in a post on its website that the Claude Opus 4 and 4.1 models now have the power to end a conversation with users. According to Anthropic, this feature will only be used in “rare, extreme cases of persistently harmful or abusive user interactions.”

To clarify, Anthropic said those two Claude models could exit harmful conversations, like “requests from users for sexual content involving minors and attempts to solicit information that would enable large-scale violence or acts of terror.” With Claude Opus 4 and 4.1, these models will only end a conversation “as a last resort when multiple attempts at redirection have failed and hope of a productive interaction has been exhausted,” according to Anthropic. However, Anthropic claims most users won’t experience Claude cutting a conversation short, even when talking about highly controversial topics, since this feature will be reserved for “extreme edge cases.”

Anthropic’s example of Claude ending a conversation

(Anthropic)

In the scenarios where Claude ends a chat, users can no longer send any new messages in that conversation, but can start a new one immediately. Anthropic added that if a conversation is ended, it won’t affect other chats and users can even go back and edit or retry previous messages to steer towards a different conversational route.

For Anthropic, this move is part of its research program that studies the idea of AI welfare. While the idea of anthropomorphizing AI models remains an ongoing debate, the company said the ability to exit a “potentially distressing interaction” was a low-cost way to manage risks for AI welfare. Anthropic is still experimenting with this feature and encourages its users to provide feedback when they encounter such a scenario.

M2010 ESR sniper rifle in Battlefield 6

Best M2010 ESR loadout in Battlefield 6

Everyone needs to start somewhere.

Recon class has always been about standing in the back lines and picking enemies off with a sniper rifle. Battlefield 6 may have a lot of focus on close-quarter combat, but you can still find a good sniping spot. And to make it work, you need the M2010 ESR sniper rifle.

Here’s the best M2010 ESR loadout in Battlefield 6, including attachments, gadgets, and more.

The best M2010 ESR loadout in BF6

Best M2010 ESR build

Tailor it to your playstyle. Screenshot by Dot Esports

M2010 ESR is the default sniper rifle in Battlefield 6. It kills with two shots to the body and one to the head – a classic weapon type in Battlefield. There’s not much special about this weapon, but due to limited choices, there’s no choice but to make it work.

Here are the best attachments for the M2010 ESR:

SlotAttachmentMuzzleCompensated BrakeBarrel26″ CarbonUnderbarrelQD Grip PodMagazine8RND MagAmmunitionFull Metal JacketScopeS-VPS 6.00XOptic AccessoryAG Coating

26″ Carbon is the barrel of choice for faster aiming speed and muzzle velocity for quick and hard-hitting shots. Much like on assault rifles like the M433, the Compensated Brake reduces recoil. In the underbarrel slot, the QD Grip Pod is the best across the board, as it both allows for a supported shooting stance and improves aiming speed. This comes at a slight cost of aimed accuracy while moving. The default ammunition type and the scope are both already good. Although you could swap the scope for something close range, depending on the mode.

The big question to answer is whether you need the DLC Bolt. By default, to rechamber the sniper while aiming down sights, you need to press the fire button again after shooting or exit ADS. DLC Bolt allows for automatic rechambering after shooting. It’s a quality-of-life feature, but it costs 30 Attachment Points.

Without the DLC Bolt, you can equip the AG Coating to narrow down the scope glint’s visible cone, and a larger, eight-round mag. You could also replace the magazine with a Range Finder, but it may not always be as useful due to map sizes.

Best M2010 ESR gadgets and throwable

Nothing special here. Screenshot by Dot Esports

M2010 ESR is best on the Recon class because you can hold your breath while aiming down sights. Other classes can’t do that, making sniper rifles less effective. But you can still run it on an Assault, for example, and pair it with an assault rifle to cover more ranges.

Here’s the best Recon class loadout to run with the M2010 ESR:

  • Field Specs: Sniper
  • Primary: M2010 ESR
  • Gadget one: Demolition Charge
  • Gadget one: Deploy Beacon
  • Throwable: Smoke

There aren’t that many options to choose from, with only two gadgets available. The grenade is the only thing you can customize, and smokes are much more useful to escape from the enemy’s sight, unless you’re rushing in.

Thailand Launches Crypto-to-Baht System Amid Tourism Slump

by admin August 17, 2025

Thailand will launch a new system on Monday, August 18, allowing foreign tourists to convert cryptocurrency into baht as the government looks for ways to lift a tourism sector hit by falling arrivals.

The initiative, called “TouristDigiPay,” will allow foreign travelers to convert their digital assets into Thai baht through regulated electronic payment channels.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira will officially announce the program at a press conference alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Anti-Money Laundering Office, and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

Thailand’s tourism earnings have slipped this year, hurt largely by a steep fall in Chinese arrivals. With tourism forming a major part of the economy, authorities are now turning to new methods to draw visitors back.

Under the new system, foreign tourists can convert their cryptocurrencies into baht and spend the money electronically, such as through QR code payments. Direct use of digital assets for purchases will not be allowed. The programme will run inside a regulatory sandbox to ensure it is closely monitored and risks are kept in check.

To participate, tourists must open accounts with a digital asset business regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission and an e-money provider licensed by the Bank of Thailand. Eligibility is limited to foreign visitors staying in Thailand temporarily.

Stringent Know Your Customer (KYC) and customer due diligence checks will be required in line with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Office standards to prevent misuse of the service.

The launch follows a recent public consultation by the Securities and Exchange Commission on the role of financial innovation and digital assets in supporting economic and tourism growth, which concluded on August 13.

Officials expect the TouristDigiPay scheme to provide a new channel for visitors to spend in Thailand while strengthening the country’s position as a regional hub for digital finance.

Louisiana sues Roblox for allegedly choosing “profits over child safety”, claiming “it’s basically open season for sex predators on this app”

by admin August 17, 2025

The U.S. state of Louisiana is suing Roblox, alleging it facilitates “the sexual exploitation of Louisiana’s children”.

In a statement, Louisiana Attorney General, Liz Murrill, claimed Roblox “endangers the safety of the children” of the state, writing: “Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritises user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety.

“Every parent should be aware of the clear and present danger posed to their children by Roblox so they can prevent the unthinkable from ever happening in their own home.”

The legal papers then names several “highly inappropriate” Roblox mini games such as Escape to Epstein Island, Public Bathroom Simulator, and Diddy Party.

“These games and others are often filled with sexually explicit material and simulated sexual activity such as child gang rape. A recent report even revealed a group of 3,334 members openly traded child pornography and solicited sexual acts from minors,” the Louisiana announcement says, citing a 2024 report.

The lawsuit claims that while Roblox requires children to have permission from their parents or guardians to open an account, the company “does nothing to confirm or document that parental permission has been given, no matter how young a child is. Nor does Defendant require a parent to confirm the age given when a child signs up to use Roblox”.

“[Roblox] has access to biometric age verification software that requires the user to take a photo of a government-issued ID along with a real-time selfie photo that is then verified through artificial intelligence,” the AG adds. “However, while Defendant utilises this software for other purposes, Defendant intentionally does not utilise this feature when new accounts are created.”

In a press conference announcing the lawsuit, Murrill said: “So [Roblox] have chosen profits over child safety. It’s basically open season for sex predators on this app. For this reason, and all of the others that we’ve talked about today, Roblox is violating Louisiana law, and that’s why we filed this lawsuit.”

Roblox said it does not comment on pending litigation, but stressed “it would like to address erroneous claims and misconceptions about our platform, our commitment to safety, and our overall safety track record”.

“Every day, tens of millions of people around the world use Roblox to learn STEM skills, play, and imagine, and have a safe experience on our platform. Any assertion that Roblox would intentionally put our users at risk of exploitation is simply untrue. No system is perfect, and bad actors adapt to evade detection, including efforts to take users to other platforms, where safety standards and moderation practices may differ. We continuously work to block those efforts and to enhance our moderation approaches to promote a safe and enjoyable environment for all users.”

It added that it is constantly innovating safety tools and launching new safeguards, has taken an industry-leading stance on age-based communication, and serves players of which 64 percent are aged 13 or over. It also dedicates substantial resources to help detect and prevent inappropriate content and behaviour, and collaborates with law enforcement and government agencies, as well as mental health organisations, child safety organisations, and parental advocacy groups “to keep users safe on the platform”.

“We know safety is critically important to families, and we strive to empower our community of parents and caregivers to help ensure a safe online experience for their children. This includes a suite of easy-to-use parental controls to provide parents with more control and clarity on what their kids and teens are doing on Roblox,” the statement concludes.

“We aim to create one of the safest online environments for users, a goal not only core to our founding values but contrary to certain assertions, one we believe is critical to our long-term vision and success. We understand there is always more work to be done, and we are committed to making Roblox a safe and positive environment for all users.”

Pebblebee Is Getting Serious About Personal Safety Tracking

Pebblebee Is Getting Serious About Personal Safety Tracking

by admin August 17, 2025

Think of Bluetooth trackers and safety in the past few years and your first thought might be the misuse of Apple AirTags and similar devices against women in domestic abuse and stalking cases.

Alongside collaborative initiatives to counter and shut down these malicious uses (such as the IETF’s Detection of Unwanted Location Trackers, or DULT, standard), tracker makers themselves are flipping the script, turning tech that has been used to monitor women against their will into tech that protects them.

In mid-July, Seattle-based Pebblebee announced a new, free SOS safety feature, named Alert, for its $35 Clip Bluetooth tracker which, like the rest of its Universal line-up, can be set up with either Apple’s Find My or Google’s Find Hub networks, is made from around 30 percent recycled plastic and runs on a rechargeable battery, with 12+ months between USB-C charges.

When multi-pressed (six-plus presses), the Clip can trigger a siren alarm, flashing LED lights and automatically send an SMS text notification to one “Safety Circle” contact that you’ve pre-saved in the Pebblebee app.

Courtesy of Peebblebee

It’s simple to set up the contact in the app, and a long press on the device shuts off the siren and LEDs, though it’s unlikely you’ll fumble or accidentally set this one off. The Clip’s siren isn’t as loud and the lights don’t cover as much radius as a dedicated personal alarm would, but they’re enough to alert passersby when out walking at night. Plus, the Pebblebee website states: “The Alert functionality including the siren, strobe, and first Safety Circle contact is and will always be completely free.”

We tested out the SOS system and it worked without a hiccup. Our Safety Circle buddy received a text saying: “URGENT: Sophie activated a Pebblebee Alert. Please check in immediately” with a link to the correct location via Google Maps. Clicking the “Mark as safe” button in the app and/or long-pressing on the Clip sends a follow-up text to say “Sophie cancelled their Pebblebee Alert” with the last location link.

Now, however, Pebblebee is adding a paid-for subscription option, named Alert Live, which offers a Safety Circle of up to five contacts to receive the SOS text notification when triggered via the Clip, plus live location tracking for these contacts, for $3 a month or $26 a year. There’s also a new Silent Mode, which sends the alert without the siren and LEDs, for both free and paid-for users: useful, though we haven’t had the chance to test this or the new real-time location sharing out yet.

This rising memecoin has potential to100x sooner than a leading coin hits 6k

by admin August 17, 2025

Disclosure: This article does not represent investment advice. The content and materials featured on this page are for educational purposes only.

While eyes are on Ethereum, a rising memecoin shows breakout signs that could deliver bigger gains much sooner.

Summary

  • XYZVerse unites sports fans in crypto, presale surges with 100x potential.
  • The sports-backed memecoin targets mass adoption through partnerships.
  • XYZVerse presale nears $0.10 goal, offering early buyers massive upside.

A fast-rising memecoin has been drawing attention while many focus on Ethereum’s price path. The digital asset quietly outpaces bigger names and could offer much larger gains.

Few have taken notice, but those watching closely see the early signs of a major run. This coin may break out long before Ethereum reaches its next big milestone.

From sports fans to crypto traders: Inside the rise of XYZVerse

XYZVerse, a new entrant in the memecoin market, is positioning itself at the intersection of sports fandom and digital assets. The project aims to unite communities of football, basketball, mixed martial arts, and gaming enthusiasts under its native token, XYZ.

The token launched at $0.0001 and has advanced to Stage 10 of its presale at $0.002. The final presale target is $0.10, giving early buyers access at up to a 99% discount. The presale’s rapid progression underscores growing retail interest in lower-cap, community-driven tokens.

Token structure and supply management

XYZVerse has allocated 15% of supply to liquidity and 10% to community rewards, including bonuses and airdrops. The project plans to burn 17.13% of tokens over time to reduce circulating supply, a move intended to support price stability and potential appreciation.

Partnership strategy and market reach

The team is pursuing collaborations with high-profile sports figures to broaden its audience beyond traditional crypto investors. The aim is to leverage sports celebrity endorsements to drive adoption and integrate non-crypto audiences into the token’s community.

Outlook

With momentum from its presale and a targeted marketing push via sports partnerships, XYZVerse is seeking to position itself as a crossover asset in both the entertainment and financial spheres. Execution on partnerships and liquidity deployment will be critical to sustaining post-launch performance.

Invest in $XYZ before it surges.

Ethereum

Source: TradingView

Ethereum has sprinted higher this spring. The coin is up 18.85% in the last 7 days, 48.11% over the past month, and 72.58% in 6 months. Today’s band sits between $3719 and $4557, a zone far above last winter lows. Bulls have shown steady control, yet the latest candle pauses just under the 10-day average.

Relative strength is neutral at 54.10 while stochastic heat flashes 90.15, hinting at a market that is warm but not boiling. The price now shadows the 100-day average at $4523, keeping the uptrend intact. First resistance stands at $4863; if buyers fade, the nearest cushion waits at $3187.

If ETH bursts through $4863, momentum could lift it toward $5701, adding about 20% above today and 28% above the current mid-range. Failure to clear that mark may invite a slide of near 30% back to $3187. Given the positive MACD of 0.3312 and the rising long-term trend, odds still lean toward a fresh push higher once the overheated oscillators cool.

Conclusion

ETH is good, but XYZVerse is the first sports memecoin, uniting fans across games, targeting a 100x surge with presale, community power, and GameFi roadmap that could outrun the cycle.

Is Bitcoin’s Four-Year Cycle Still Alive? Analyst Hints At An Eventful 100 Days Ahead

by admin August 17, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

The “Bitcoin cycle theory is dead” is one narrative that has gained increased traction as the year has gone on, especially with the premier cryptocurrency setting multiple all-time highs since April. This hypothesis is based on the shift in the market dynamics and the entry of a new group of investors.

Since the launch of Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in early 2024, the market has seen the entry of a new set of institutional players. This new trend or wave of investors is believed to have introduced some form of unpredictability to the market and price movements.

Nevertheless, a market analyst on X has asked an interesting question — what will happen if the traditional four-year cycle continues?

BTC Price Could Reach Cycle Top In 100 Days

In an August 16 post on social media platform X, a market analyst—bearing the name of renowned American economist Frank Fetter—shared an insight into how the Bitcoin price could move if the four-year cycle continued. According to the pundit, the next 100 days could be interesting for the flagship cryptocurrency.

This evaluation revolves around the Bitcoin Index Performance Since Cycle Low, which tracks the performance of the BTC price in various 4-year periods. This chart displays the cyclical nature of most financial markets, including the nascent cryptocurrency market.

Fetter highlighted a Bitcoin Index Performance chart in their post, showing the movement in the past two cycles (2015 – 2018 and 2018 – 2022) and the current cycle. As shown in the chart below, the price of BTC grew by 110x in the 2015 – 2018 cycle (green line) and took 1,068 days to reach its top.

Source: @FrankAFetter on X

Similarly, the price of Bitcoin reached the cyclical peak in 2022, 1,060 days after the cycle low in 2018. However, the premier cryptocurrency only did 21x in the 2018 – 2022 cycle (blue line), reflecting a more mature and stable market environment.

In the current cycle (black line), the price of BTC is up by 7.3x from its 2022 cycle low, which was 997 days. If the traditional four-year cycle theory is still in play, it means that the market leader could be about 100 days away from reaching its price top in this cycle. From an optimistic standpoint, this means that BTC might still have one leg up before peaking.

However, a continuous rally or sustained bullish momentum even after 100 days from now could spell the end of the cycle theory for the Bitcoin price. This shift in market structure could translate into longer bull runs and shorter bearish periods for the world’s largest cryptocurrency.

Bitcoin Price At A Glance

As of this writing, the price of Bitcoin stands at around $117,625, reflecting a mere 0.3% increase in the past 24 hours.

The one feature that keeps me from recommending flip phones
Gaming Gear

The one feature that keeps me from recommending flip phones

by admin August 17, 2025

I carry a lot of different phones around, and I rarely get questions about them because most people stopped talking about which phone they own around 2017. I could be using an unreleased iPhone 18 Pro Max Air Ultra to pay for my coffee and nobody would raise an eyebrow (present company excepted, of course). To the majority, a phone is a phone; no matter who makes it or what software it runs, they’re all roughly the same size and shape. Unless that phone happens to be a flip phone.

Flip phones attract attention from the kind of people who have seen every type of phone in existence, which makes sense: they’re very obviously different. During the rise of the smartphone, there was a time when manufacturers tried a lot of other form factors. Physical keyboards, swiveling screens, pop-up cameras — anything was fair game. But over the past decade, the industry converged around one design to rule them all: the form factor that we now know as the slab phone. And it remained more or less unchallenged until Samsung started folding screens in half.

Before the new flip phones, book-style foldables came first. And Samsung’s debut effort was kind of a fiasco. Within days of receiving review units, testers started experiencing problems with the inner screen. The Verge’s own Dieter Bohn was one of them; he noticed a small bulge in the inner screen along the crease, as if a very small particle was pressing up into the screen from inside the hinge. Something similar happened to CNBC’s review unit.

Elsewhere, creators and reviewers at other outlets experienced similarly catastrophic screen deaths by peeling up the factory-installed protector on the inner screen, which was meant to stay permanently adhered. If this was not obvious to people who look at phones all day, you can be damn sure it wouldn’t have been obvious to the average phone user. Even though dust wasn’t the confirmed offender here — and Samsung clearly had more than one kind of problem on its hands — the message was clear: the inner screen of a folding phone was just one wrong move away from failure.

The first modern flip phones weren’t exactly bangers, either. Motorola’s revived Razr kind of sucked, and Samsung’s first Flip wasn’t much better, even though it was the first to offer a better-feeling glass folding screen rather than plastic. Both phones came with too many tradeoffs, too many durability concerns, and too high of a price to justify buying one for the novelty. But things changed when Motorola took a good look at its Razr design and said, “You know what? To hell with this. Big outer screen.”

The 2023 Motorola Razr Plus was the first flip-style phone that truly felt like something different. The outer 3.6-inch screen sounds tiny, and I guess it is tiny, but it was the biggest one offered on a flip phone at that point. And it made a difference. Instead of just triaging notifications, you could actually do things. Reply to texts, browse your Spotify library, even run full apps — so much more became possible. Samsung followed suit, and even though it took a couple of tries to get rid of the file-folder-shaped screen and embrace the full front panel, its flip phone became imminently more useful with a proper cover display. I love flip phones. Lots of you love flip phones, too.

Those little specks of dust still loom large. Despite substantial improvements to the screens and hinges, and the addition of water resistance, flip phones (and their fold-style siblings) still lack dust resistance. Both Motorola and Samsung’s latest foldables come with an IP48 rating, which only guarantees protection against very small particles, meaning anything smaller than a millimeter could still potentially work its way into the phone and wreak havoc.

Sure, plenty of people own folding phones and never experience problems with dust, which is great! But when every other slab-style phone at the same price point comes with a full IP68 rating, it’s hard to tell the average person to go ahead and spend $1,000 on a flip phone. Fun only goes so far.

I had a burning question for Samsung’s head of smartphone planning, Minseok Kang. Maybe it even bordered on a plea. “Is a dustproof foldable even possible?” I asked following Samsung’s most recent Unpacked. “I don’t think that it’s not possible,” he said. “But it is difficult.”

Whispers of foldables with the elusive IP68 rating have cropped up around most of the recent folding phone launches, ultimately fizzling when the full specs have been revealed. But the rumors are firing up again, suggesting that the Google Pixel 10 Pro might come with dust resistance. That, frankly, would rule. But I’ve gotten my hopes up one too many times this year, and I don’t have the energy to do it again, so I’ll consider it a nice surprise if it arrives with dust resistance. But I haven’t given up hope — I have it on good authority that it’s not impossible, after all.

  • If you live outside the US, you have a bunch more flip phones to choose from. Oppo, Huawei, and Xiaomi sell flip-style foldables — just not on our shores.
  • Samsung and Motorola have both expanded their flip phone portfolios this year. Motorola added a third high-end “Ultra” model, while Samsung recycled the previous generation’s Z Flip design into a lower-cost FE version this year. More models means a bigger spread in pricing, which ranges from $699 to $1,299.
  • Nobody’s having more fun with the flip format than Motorola. Razr phones include preloaded games tailored to the outer screen, retro-inspired music for player themes, and a mode that mimics the classic Razr’s UI.
