Google Gemini can now read your Docs aloud

Google Docs will now let you generate an audio version of your documents using AI. In a post announcing the rollout, Google says you can customize Gemini’s AI audio output with different voices and playback speeds.

This feature isn’t just for a document’s creator, as Google says readers can access a shared document’s AI-generated audio by selecting the Tool dropdown menu and selecting Audio > Listen to this tab. Authors can also add a customizable audio button directly in a document by choosing Insert > Audio, which readers can click to start listening.

Google announced plans to let you turn your documents into AI podcasts in April, but this feature seems a lot handier if you just want to listen to what you’ve written. You can only generate audio versions of documents in English and on desktop devices for now.

Google is rolling out audio in Docs to Workspace users with business, enterprise, or education plans, as well as users who have AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions.

The transaction saw Ethereum birthing new whales despite the market slump, as the source revealed that the fresh wallets acquired about $192 million in ETH from BitGo, a renowned crypto trading platform and liquidity provider.

Despite the negative price trend witnessed today, large holders of Ethereum have shown resilience, aggressively stacking up on the asset despite massive price losses.

Ethereum whales continue buying spree

Recent whale activities witnessed across the crypto market show that Ethereum has become the center of attraction among high-profile investors and institutional investors, as Ethereum is seen outshining Bitcoin in whale activities.

Although the massive ETH purchases made by the single entity have sparked market reactions, it is just one of the numerous whale transactions involving ETH that were recorded today. This validates speculations that whales might be taking over the Ethereum ecosystem.

While the broad crypto market downturn has seen market investors take caution and slow down on their crypto purchases, it appears that Ethereum whales are still positive about the asset’s potential as recent buy activities show that whales are relentlessly buying the dip on the asset.

Nonetheless, the massive buying spree witnessed among new and existing Ethereum whales like this often hints at long-term conviction, which appears bullish for the cryptocurrency, restoring hopes for a potential price rebound.

With Ethereum remaining on the downside for multiple days, analysts have predicted that the ongoing downtrend may wrap up soon, as large whale purchases have preceded periods of price recovery.

Notably, increased buying activities from retail and institutional holders can both tighten supply on exchanges and boost confidence among retail investors, propelling the concerned cryptocurrency toward a potential price surge.

Market watchers have expressed excitement about the move, as the massive buys could mark the beginning of a bullish reversal in the price of Ethereum.

Groov-e Wave Glow: two-minute review

The Groov-e Wave Glow is a very affordable portable speaker and one with sound quality to match that price tag. Yes, this is one that will infuriate the ears of audiophiles sounding somewhat tinny at times and slightly lacking any oomph across the course of my listening.

On the other hand, it has some funky looking lights which I found rather endearing, a comfy to grip strap, and some surprising ways to connect it to your music. Besides Bluetooth, you can also plug in a USB flash drive, slot in a TF card (both admittedly with a tight 64GB limit), and there’s an aux port. It’s not often you see these features in a tiny speaker any more. Granted, not everyone will need these but if you do, well, your options are limited making this more tempting.

Of course, don’t count on it rivalling the best Bluetooth speakers. This is a decidedly cheap speaker. It feels a little cheap to the touch and there’s that dodgy sound quality. I say dodgy; it’s reminiscent of buying a cheap radio or speaker years ago, before good speakers were affordable for the masses. It’s not hideous, exactly, but it’s also fairly ‘blah’.

Away from that disappointing audio quality, the Groov-e Wave Glow has some chunky, tactile buttons for play/pause, volume, and adjusting the lights, and the ports are all hidden behind a pull-out protective shell. Then there’s the lights up top and down bottom, and the elastic strap.

The Groov-e Wave Glow is priced at £23.99 and at the moment is only seemingly available in the UK, but that would make it under $35, or around AU$50. For that price, it’d be silly to expect too much, but if you can stretch further, you will find better options – more on those later. If money is that tight, however, or you’re looking for a cheap gift, the Groov-e Wave Glow still has some appeal.

The Groov-e Wave Glow was launched in May 2025 and is currently available to buy in the UK. It’s already seen some modest discounts but is generally available for £23.99.

That makes it one of the cheaper speakers around. The recently released Tribit Stormbox Mini Plus is close but is still usually priced at £39.99. If you’re able to increase your budget to that, there are a few other options like the JBL Go 4, but few as cheap as this one.

The Groov-e Wave Glow is a fairly typical looking little Bluetooth speaker but with some surprising features. The highlight is its plethora of connections. Sure, you’ll be mostly using its Bluetooth connection, but it has other options. You can use its aux port to connect to other devices (and the speaker actually comes with a 3.5mm jack), while next to it is a TF (read: microSD) card slot, and the USB connection allows you to plug in a USB flash drive. Admittedly, both microSD and USB have a limitation of 64GB so you might have to search around for a compatible option, but it could be that specific situation that fits you perfectly.

There are no mics for speakerphone duties (although few speakers seem to offer that, these days) and battery life is a very unremarkable 8 hours. I’d have liked to have seen more here, especially as it takes 2 hours for a full recharge. Its Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity works fine and I had no issues using it with my iPhone 14 Pro but there were occasional dropouts on my PC – usually when I moved the speaker around.

Elsewhere, the LED lights are my favorite thing about the Groov-e Wave Glow. They visually bounce away while playing music and look suitably vibrant and exciting. They’re potentially more exciting than the audio quality, but I’ll get to that. It’s a neat touch either way and makes up for the lack of app support and thus in-app customization.

Groov-e Wave Glow review: sound quality

I didn’t expect much of the Groov-e Wave Glow but I have to be honest, it actually sounded a little worse than anticipated. It’s functional, of course, but pretty tinny at times. There’s no bass to speak of, but my word, do the lights try to atone for that. You’re encouraged to feel like it’s doing its best, happily bouncing along. However, it’s pretty tame stuff.

Listening to spoken word – a podcast or YouTube video, say – is fine, but when you switch over to your favorite music, the limitations are much more noticeable. The volume can go pretty high, but that weakens the experience even more. I went for my cheesy favorite, Robbie William’s Let Me Entertain You to start, knowing exactly how it’s meant to sound and there was no urgency or strength in the mids.

I went bold then and loaded up some Muse and sighed as it sounded somewhat pitiful. The soundstage is weak but more importantly, the bass and general ambience is underwhelming.

The Groov-e Wave Glow is certainly exactly how you expect a speaker to look, but there are a few highlights. I’m a big fan of its buttons being attractive but tactile too, so anyone with visual impairments can find what they’re wanting to press. There are buttons for play/pause, volume, and for toggling the lights on or off.

There’s a chunky section for the ports too which blends in well and feels suitably snug. On another side is the strap which is elasticated but held in quite tightly. The idea is that you can easily hold it through the strap but also attach it to something like a hook. It feels nice in your hands which is the main thing here.

As with other similar speakers, the Groov-e Wave Glow is pretty lightweight to carry around. Up top and down the bottom is the lighting so you can place the Groov-e Wave Glow sideways as well as upright.

What lets it down in this section – and why not go higher than four stars? Well, any discussion on the design has to include the audio architecture under the hood, and as you’ll know if you’ve read this far, this area is where the Wave Glow struggles. Also, unusually for a speaker in 2025, there’s no mention of an IP rating for water or dust ingress – so it won’t be joining the ranks of our best waterproof speakers buying guide any time soon.

The Groov-e Wave Glow is certainly cheap but its sound quality demonstrates exactly why it’s so cheap. Having said that, the aux port, USB flash drive support, and TF card slot could make it exactly what you’ve been looking for. For those people, there’s not much else to rival the Groov-e Wave Glow at this price.

However, if you’re looking for good audio, it’s a smart move to spend a little more on the JBL Go range or something from Anker Soundcore. The Groov-e Wave Glow definitely isn’t the best choice for music lovers, but it is super cheap and for many, that’s the priority.

Groov-e Wave Glow review: how I tested

I used the Groov-e Wave Glow across 14 days in a wide range of ways. I connected it to my PC initially and listened to Spotify, Apple Music and Twitch using that as a source device, then moved to my iPhone 14 Pro.

That meant a solid mixture of spoken audio and also music. My music taste is fairly varied so it went from Robbie Williams to Muse to Chet Baker to various pieces of classical music. I also checked how good battery life appeared to be and monitored how long it took to recharge.

I have 15 years of experience testing audio equipment, specialising in portable, affordable products just like the Groov-e Wave Glow.

Kick Streamer Reportedly Dies On Camera After Months Of Alleged Abuse

Raphaël “Jeanpormanove” Graven reportedly died in his sleep earlier this week following broadcasts on Kick where he was routinely assaulted by others in controversial “humiliation” livestreams. According to the BBC, a judicial investigation in France is underway, with French government minister for digital technologies Clara Chappaz calling what Graven experienced “absolute horror.”

The death of the 46-year-old, whose streaming career began with TikTok videos about GTA 5 and FIFA and who had amassed over a million followers across all his channels, appears to have been captured live during his latest, and last, marathon Kick broadcast. Graven’s more recent content, which he created as part of the collective Le LokalTV, included being seemingly brutalized by two fellow streamers who go by the aliases “Naruto” and “Safine,” with some clips appearing to show violent, prolonged strangulations. An investigation last year by Mediapart alleged that Graven had been subject to “months of online abuse.”

It’s unclear what exactly the relationship was between all of the men, though reporting by Mediapart suggests the “humiliation” streams were lucrative and helped propel the popularity of Graven and the group’s channel on Kick. Naruto and Safine were reportedly taken into custody earlier this year but were later released amid an ongoing investigation. Kick also temporarily suspended the channel but it later resumed streaming again. Clips of the alleged abuse can be found circulating online.

Mediapart now reports that viewers of the stream earlier this week on Discord became worried about Graven’s condition after he appeared to being laying motionless in his sleep for an extended period of time. According to the AFP, an autopsy to determine the cause of death has been ordered.

Kick is a competitor to Twitch and YouTube known for its loose guidelines and minimal moderation. Streamers there can promote gambling and other topics that are prohibited on other streaming platforms. A representative for Kick told the BBC it was “urgently reviewing” the circumstances around Graven’s apparent death on camera. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jeanpormanove and extend our condolences to his family, friends and community,” they said.

Meta Breaks Up AI Lab as Part of Superintelligence Push

Meta is breaking up its AI Superintelligence Labs into four divisions focused on research, infrastructure, and product development, part of a broader effort to accelerate progress toward so-called superintelligence.

Meta’s chief AI officer, Alexandr Wang, said in the memo that the Superintelligence Labs will be divided into smaller units focused on AI research, infrastructure, hardware, product integration, and the company’s long-term superintelligence goals.

“Superintelligence is coming, and in order to take it seriously, we need to organize around the key areas that will be critical to reach it,” Wang wrote, according to an article on Bloomberg, which first reported the story.

Meta confirmed the reorganization in an email to Decrypt, but declined to provide further details.



The restructured Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL) will include four groups:

  • TBD Lab, led by Wang
  • FAIR (Fundamental AI Research)
  • Products and Applied Research, led by former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman
  • MSL Infra, which will oversee Meta’s AI infrastructure

The shake-up follows an aggressive hiring spree in which Meta poached top talent from firms like OpenAI, Anthropic, GitHub, and Google DeepMind. In June, Meta invested $14 billion in Scale AI, naming Wang—Scale’s CEO—as Meta’s new chief AI officer. That same month, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman accused Meta of offering $100 million in job packages to lure his staff.

According to a separate New York Times report, which cited sources familiar with the matter, some executives are expected to leave following the restructuring. Meta is also reportedly considering integrating third-party AI models into its products, marking a shift from its past reliance on in-house AI development.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg has made AI and, more recently, achieving superintelligence central to Meta’s long-term vision. In the company’s second-quarter earnings call, CFO Susan Li said capital expenditures could hit $72 billion by year’s end, driven largely by AI-related infrastructure.

In a recent post, Zuckerberg doubled down on Meta’s push toward superintelligence.

“I am extremely optimistic that superintelligence will help humanity accelerate our pace of progress,” he wrote. “But perhaps even more important is that superintelligence has the potential to begin a new era of personal empowerment where people will have greater agency to improve the world in the directions they choose.”

Who Needs 280 Bitcoin Domain Names? Massive BTC Bundle Goes Up for Auction

A collection of more than 280 Bitcoin-themed domain names is up for auction via a single sale at Lloyds, the famed auction house announced on Tuesday. 

The collection includes dozens of geographical themed Bitcoin domains, like JapanBitcoin.com and AustraliaBitcoin.com, as well as more functional domains like BitcoinExchanges.com and BitcoinWallets.com.

Other notable (and/or amusing) names in the bunch include BitcoinforPizza.com, EmailBitcoin.com, BitcoinSpotETF.com, BitcoinSeedPhrase.com, TokenizedBitcoins.com, and BitcoinNetzwerk.com.

“This isn’t just a group of good domains,” Lloyds Auctions Chief Operations Officer Lee Hames said, in a statement. “It’s the architecture of Bitcoin’s internet presence. Whoever wins this auction won’t just own names, they’ll own the language of Bitcoin’s digital economy.”

The Australia-based auction house previously held an auction for XBT.com, an alternative ticker to BTC that is sometimes used for Bitcoin, selling it for more than $3 million on its own.



“After setting the benchmark with XBT.com, we’re now offering the infrastructure behind it, a full suite of digital assets that define the Bitcoin space online,” Hames added. 

Some domains in the lot were registered as early as 2010, shortly after Bitcoin’s emergence in 2009, leading Lloyds to speculate that the anonymous domain registrants may have been tied to the early Bitcoin developer community. 

In order to bid on the lots, users must be pre-approved by Lloyds. The firm began accepting payment in cryptocurrency as early as 2021, accepting Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other popular cryptocurrencies.

Lot estimates are not listed by Lloyds for the sale, though the firm calls the auction a “significant offering.” Other popular crypto domains, like BTC.com and ETH.com, have traded hands for more than $1 million in the past. 

A representative for Lloyds did not immediately respond to Decrypt’s request for comment or questions about lot estimates.

This new AMD Ryzen AI MAX laptop calls itself a workstation, yet looks, sounds, and acts exactly like a gaming system

Emdoor, a company that has mostly kept a low profile since 2023, is now releasing another system that it calls a “high-end PC workstation with next-gen AI chip.”

The device, listed under the code “EM-959-NM16ASH-1,” comes with AMD’s Ryzen AI MAX processors, also known as Strix Halo.

The Emdoor EM-959-NM16ASH-1 features soldered LPDDR5X-8000 memory on a 256-bit bus, giving high bandwidth but preventing upgrades.

A workstation or gaming laptop?

Although the memory is limited to a maximum of 128GB at purchase, the storage is more flexible with two PCIe 4.0×4 M.2 slots supporting up to 8TB.

The display is a 16-inch panel at 2560×1600 resolution, with refresh options of either 165Hz or 180Hz.

Such specifications may attract users looking for a video editing laptop, but they also blur the line between workstation and gaming hardware.

That impression is further reinforced by leaked internal file names tied to the design, which included the term “GAMES.”

At 2.45kg, the system is heavier than many of its rivals, with the likes of Sixunited’s XN77-160M-CS and HP’s ZBook Ultra G1a weighing less than 1.8kg.

Although bulkier construction may have been chosen to handle the 45–120W thermal design of Strix Halo, this weight might be acceptable only for a stationary workstation, as buyers seeking a business laptop may not find this design appealing.

It also includes a 99Wh battery that is claimed to last eight hours, but without independent testing, such claims remain promises.

Cooling is handled by a dual-fan setup coupled with triple heat pipes and a quad-exhaust system.

The company markets this system as a workstation, but the aesthetics, refresh rates, and naming history suggest gaming roots.

Since Emdoor acts as an original design manufacturer, the same model could easily appear under another brand marketed as a gaming system.

Whether this laptop becomes a reliable tool for professionals or fades into obscurity, as some of the firm’s past projects have, will only be clear once it reaches the market and real-world feedback emerges.

Currently, only a limited number of PCs feature the Strix Halo chip, with examples including the Asus ROG Flow Z13 (13.4″), the HP ZBook Ultra 14 G1a, and a handful of others.

In terms of pricing, these devices cost well over $2,000, and considering the specifications of the Emdoor EM-959-NM16ASH-1, it will likely cost more.

Scientists discover how to gene edit animals & fast forward evolution by millions of years

Researchers in Japan have discovered that, through gene editing, it’s possible to completely change the behavior of animals. By simply swapping the gene, that animal’s body has been shown to adapt and grow to form the new trait that was manually edited in.

This technology is still early on in testing. We’re a bit away from cats barking and dogs meowing, but the roots of the tech are there and have already been proven to work on fruit flies.

By swapping just a single gene, scientists were able to completely rewire the brains of two genetically distinct species of fruit fly to swap their mating rituals.

And, while that may not sound like a big deal, their bodies physically adapted around the new gene just because scientists edited it. While small now, this science applied at scale could be revolutionary.

Japanese researchers discover how to swap animal traits

Researchers at Nagoya University accomplished this by swapping the genes between two fruit fly species, one belonging to Drosophila suboscura and the other being D. melanogaster. They’re in the same family, but that’s still pretty distinct in genetic terms.

New Atlas describes the process of bringing back genes that are this far apart in fruit flies as turning back literal tens of millions of years’ worth of evolution. And scientists managed to do that in one go, all by altering one gene.

D. melanogaster flies perform singing as their mating ritual, while Drosophila suboscura give “gifts” to potential mates in order to court them. Nagoya researchers reversed these rituals naturally. Aside from the gene alteration, no environmental changes were introduced to push them more toward one behavior. The flies just did it of their own accord.

Additionally, their bodies grew and changed to support the new gene. The singing fly developed stronger muscles to produce the right sound, and the other made changes to its visual and motor functions in order to throw up a “gift”.

In other words, scientists skipped millions of years’ worth of evolution in one fell swoop. And, considering that flies are around 60% similar to humans, the idea of jumping traits from one animal to another is now within feasible reach. It’d take time to figure out and implement at scale, but this could be a huge breakthrough across pretty much any industry that relies on animal products.

And, while it will surely be a while until things like gene therapy are applied to humans, it is possible for this tech to be used in that way.

Scientists have also recently discovered how to turn back time. Though it’s only for a single particle, it could theoretically apply to much larger objects.

aside, the best investment in crypto is its “picks and shovels,” according to the CEO of $1.6 trillion asset manager Franklin Templeton.

Jenny Johnson, the third-generation leader of the manager, spoke at the SALT conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming on Tuesday, doubling down on what in her opinion will be the biggest use cases of blockchain technology and where investors should put their money.

In her view, bitcoin functions as a “fear currency” — a financial refuge for people in countries where governments can block access to funds or where national currencies lose value over time. But despite its appeal in those scenarios, she sees it as a distraction.

Bitcoin, she argues, is the “greatest distraction for one of the greatest disruptions that is coming to financial services.”

That disruption, she said, lies in the underlying infrastructure — not in digital assets themselves, but in the systems that support them. That’s where she believes capital should be focused.

“The picks and shovels are the baseline of the strong, layered apps,” Johnson said. “I like the rails as a starting point,” she added, referring to blockchain networks. “Then there are some great consumer apps that are coming out that I think are really exciting.”

She also sees promise in the role of validators, the entities that maintain blockchain networks. For active investment managers, they could offer a new layer of transparency and are a “game changer”.

“Just imagine seeing on public equity all the transactions that go in and out of that company and how much information that gives you,” she said.

Johnson led the asset management firm into digital assets after taking over her family’s company in 2020. Under her leadership, the firm has launched multiple crypto exchange-traded products and introduced the OnChain U.S. Government Market Fund, a tokenized investment vehicle.

She expects financial products like mutual funds and ETFs to eventually move to blockchains, where they could operate more efficiently and at lower cost. But for now, regulation remains the “biggest inhibitor” to that shift, she said.

Part of the hesitation, she added, comes from the sheer number of digital assets likely to fail — a level of risk regulators aren’t yet prepared to manage.

Alyssa Ashcroft Returns In New Resident Evil Requiem Trailer

Resident Evil Requiem will follow a new heroine, Grace Ashcroft, but that last name should ring a bell for any fans of the Outbreak series. In a new trailer shown during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 today, we get to see a little bit of Grace’s backstory and history with her mom, Resident Evil Outbreak’s Alyssa Ashcroft.

Alyssa is a field reporter and playable character from the Outbreak series, now playing a major role in Resident Evil Requiem. She’s the mother of Requiem’s lead, Grace Ashcroft, and looks to be on the run from some dangerous foes. After a mysterious phone call and a power outage, we get a brief look at a playable section where the player, as Grace, follows Alyssa through the darkened and foreboding hotel hallways.

 

Spare a thought for the world’s most doomed hotel manager, as a terrible fate befalls him, and the pair escape. Seeing the dynamics between mother and daughter here seems to emphasize this as a thematic thread for the main game, but we’ll have to wait and see for more.

The wait’s not that long, though, as Capcom confirmed Resident Evil Requiem’s release date during this year’s Summer Game Fest back in June. The next mainline entry arrives on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For more on it, check out our preview from SGF 2025.
