DBS Launches Tokenized Structured Notes on Ethereum, Expanding Investor Access

by admin August 21, 2025

Singapore’s largest bank is extending its blockchain strategy by offering tokenized structured notes on the Ethereum public blockchain, in a move that broadens access to complex financial products once reserved for its private clients.

DBS said in a press release on Thursday that it will distribute the instruments through local Singapore exchanges ADDX, DigiFT and HydraX, marking its first time offering tokenized products to accredited and institutional investors outside its own client base.

The debut product is a crypto-linked participation note that pays out in cash when digital asset prices rise, while limiting downside exposure.

Structured notes traditionally carry minimum investments of $100,000 and are often customized, making them non-fungible.

By tokenizing each instrument into $1,000 units, DBS said the securities become fungible and easier to trade, offering greater flexibility for portfolio management.

Demand for such instruments has been strong as investors seek to incorporate advanced investment strategies in their digital asset portfolios, the bank said in a release.

In the first half of 2025, DBS clients executed over $1 billion of trades involving these instruments, with trade volumes growing almost 60% from Q1 2025 to Q2 2025.

The bank sees this as particularly useful for family offices and professional investors, which have grown rapidly in Singapore. The number of single-family offices in the city-state topped 2,000 in 2024, up 43% year on year, it said in a release.

The move comes as Singapore deepens its role as a hub for tokenized finance. The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has been advancing industry pilots through Project Guardian, which explores tokenization of assets across fixed income, FX and funds, while developing cross-border infrastructure like Global Layer One to pool global liquidity.

DBS has been one of the most active banks participating in these initiatives, often using permissioned blockchains for pilots before expanding into public chains.

While the initial focus is on crypto-linked notes, DBS said it will also tokenize more traditional equity- and credit-linked notes.

“Asset tokenization is the next frontier of financial markets infrastructure,” said Li Zhen, head of foreign exchange and digital assets at DBS.

“Our first tokenized product addresses the growing institutional appetite for digital assets. With this initiative, a broader segment of investors can now tap our digital asset ecosystem to build exposure to the asset class,” Zhen continued.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong Tips $1M For Bitcoin By 2030

by admin August 21, 2025

While Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has become the latest crypto executive to predict Bitcoin to reach $1 million by 2030, one crypto analyst warns investors should not get ahead of themselves after Bitcoin fell to $112,676 this week, retreating 9% from its all-time high.

The US is a “bellwether for the rest of the G20”

“The rough idea I have in my head is that we’ll see a million-dollar Bitcoin by 2030,” Armstrong told John Collison on the “Cheeky Pint” podcast on Wednesday.

Armstrong pointed to a few reasons to back up his Bitcoin (BTC) prediction, including clearer regulations starting to take shape in the United States, which he called a “bellwether for the rest of the G20.”

Brian Armstrong spoke to John Collison on the “Cheeky Pint” podcast. Source: Stripe

He highlighted the recently passed Genius Act for stablecoins and the market structure bill that is now “being debated” in the Senate.

“Fingers crossed something could happen by the end of this year, that would be a huge milestone,” Armstrong said.

He also cited the US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. “If you asked me five years ago, that would have been like a vision board. Someone would have said you’re crazy, the United States government is not going to officially hold Bitcoin.”

It comes the same day Eric Trump said at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium, “You go out a couple of years, there’s no question Bitcoin hits a million bucks.”

Crypto analyst suggests one step at a time

However, McKay Research researcher James McKay suggests Bitcoiners should not get ahead of themselves over the asset’s future price.

“Let’s try and hold 124K first guys,” McKay said in an X post on Tuesday, a week after Bitcoin hit a new all-time high of $124,128 but shed its gains in the days following.

Bitcoin is down 2.42% over the past 30 days. Source: CoinMarketCap

McKay, however, said Armstrong’s prediction is “not out of left field,” considering Standard Chartered predicts $500,000 by 2028.

Factors supporting a continued Bitcoin rally include crypto treasury firm and nation-state Bitcoin buying, continued institutional interest in Bitcoin and rising demand for spot Bitcoin ETFs.

However, some near-term headwinds could include the US Federal Reserve delaying rate cuts, while longer-term risks include a potentially less crypto-friendly stance from the next US presidential administration.

Several other execs forecast $1M Bitcoin by 2030

McKay’s comments came just hours after he said, “Only time will tell whether the 4-year cycle is dead or not.”

In February, ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood said Bitcoin could reach $1.5 million by 2030 in her firm’s “Bull Case” forecast. Going even further back, in May 2024, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey forecasted that the price of a single BTC would be $1 million by 2030 and could appreciate further.

However, others warn that if the price tag comes any sooner, it may set off warning signs.

Galaxy Digital CEO Mike Novogratz says a million-dollar Bitcoin next year wouldn’t be a victory but rather a sign that the US economy is in serious trouble.

“People who cheer for the million-dollar Bitcoin price next year, I was like, Guys, it only gets there if we’re in such a shitty place domestically,” Novogratz told Natalie Brunell on the Coin Stories podcast on Wednesday.

Tony Gilroy Is Very Sad at How Relevant ‘Andor’ Has Become

by admin August 21, 2025

When Tony Gilroy began his Andor journey, his original pitch was deemed “pretty mad and undoable” by Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the showrunner revealed how that initial take would later get revisited after Lucasfilm gave it some thought.

“They came back to me and said, ‘We looked at this memo from a year and a half ago, and it makes a lot more sense to us now,’” he recalled. That, of course, led to a series expanding on the very foundation that Star Wars creator George Lucas had in mind when he began the beloved saga: Space Nazis are bad, and the rebellion is coming.

Around the time award nominations were announced for the show’s critically acclaimed second season, real-world headlines eerily mirrored events seen in Andor. In particular, a scene in the Emmy-nominated episode “Welcome to the Rebellion,” which depicts a Ghorman senator being carted off by stormtroopers as he says, “My people today and yours tomorrow; remember Ghorman!” struck a very timely nerve.

It’s a devastating series of events that’s not lost on Gilroy. “When I started on the show, the parallels between what was happening in the world and what was happening in the galaxy and the Empire—those were already obvious.” He explained that his inspiration came from a love of history and using that to embed the seeds of how totalitarianism has taken root in Star Wars.

“But over the six years we’ve been doing the show, that little monster got on its feet and learned how to run,” he said. “When [U.S. Senator for California Alex Padilla] was pulled out of the ICE meeting, like in the episode about the Ghorman senator being pulled out, there was a big text chain in our group like, ‘Oh my God. It looked like the show.’ It’s very sad for us how much it rhymes.”

While we continue to live in unprecedented times, the filmmaker notes that Andor feels like something he can’t see himself doing again. It’s disappointing, but as the state of the entertainment industry continues to evolve, it makes sense.

“For five and a half years, every single day of my life, I had a maximally imaginative involvement that was never complete—writing, designing, music, casting, all of it,” Gilroy said of the pandemic-era-born production. “Every demand on your imagination that could ever be asked was screaming for your attention. That’s a pretty heady place to live. I grew to love it. But I can’t imagine that I would ever be that fully engaged again,” he concluded, but we hold out hope the vast galaxy makes space for his return; we need these stories now more than ever.

Heavy Locomotives and Integrated Commodity Markets coming to Brass:Pittsburgh

by admin August 21, 2025

The steady trickle of information about Roxley’s follow-up to megahit game Brass: Birmingham continues this week with two mechanics reveals, Heavy Locomotives and Integrated Commodity Markets:

Heavy Locomotives

Unlike traditional Brass games, Heavy Locomotives are a permanent addition to your industrial empire. You start with 2 locomotives and can unlock more on your player board throughout the game. These powerful engines are never removed during the rail era transition, making them a lasting investment. Each Heavy Locomotive provides a special bonus when built, representing the massive advantage that superior rail technology provided during the Gilded Age.

Having a permanent piece on the board that remains even with an era change may be the secret wish of every Brass:Birmingham player. It will be interesting to see how that plays.

Integrated Commodity Markets

One of the most praised innovations by playtesters is the integration of commodity markets directly into the board. Unlike Birmingham and Lancashire, where commodities can move without network connections, all commodities in Brass: Pittsburgh must travel via established rail links. If you want to buy from a market, you must be connected by rail. But you can also pay the exorbitant “Vanderbilt price” to purchase any commodity at any time, even without a rail connection, giving players a usually undesirable but always available backup plan. This represents Cornelius Vanderbilt’s stranglehold on commerce in the region. His rail empire connected markets and enabled commerce on an unprecedented scale, and he held the title of richest man in the world from the 1850s until his death in 1877.

Assuming Pittsburgh retains the debt mechanics of Birmingham, the “Vanderbilt price” seems like it will be everyone’s favorite new way to abuse their credit in the game. Being able to purchase any commodity at any time is just too tempting.

What’s next?

Expect another reveal next week, and every week leading into the crowdfunding launch! In the meantime, sign up on the Gamefound page and join the conversation!

Will Bitcoin Beat Every Asset Class? Bitwise Says Institutions Are Taking Notice

by admin August 21, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

Bitcoin’s role in institutional portfolios is continuing to evolve, with new research from Bitwise Asset Management suggesting the asset could become the strongest-performing major investment class in the years ahead.

According to a preview of the firm’s forthcoming Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions (LTCMAs), Bitwise expects Bitcoin to deliver an average compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 28% over the next 10 years while experiencing gradually declining volatility.

The report, authored by Matt Hougan, Chief Investment Officer at Bitwise, frames Bitcoin not as an opportunistic play but as a maturing asset that is increasingly being considered a core portfolio component.

Hougan noted that the launch and adoption of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in 2024 marked a turning point, prompting large investment platforms and allocators to begin requesting long-term models for Bitcoin alongside traditional assets such as stocks, bonds, and real estate.

Growing Institutional Interest in Bitcoin

Hougan explained that long-term capital market assumptions serve as the foundation for how major financial institutions design portfolios. Each year, firms like JPMorgan and BlackRock release detailed outlooks that guide asset allocation strategies.

For the first time in 2025, professional investors have begun requesting that Bitcoin be included in these frameworks, with Bitwise reporting 12 such inquiries this year compared to none in previous years.

“The fact that they’re now asking for long-term capital market assumptions means that they’ve shifted their view: It’s no longer a one-off for the fringes of the portfolio; it’s starting to be considered for the core,” Hougan said in the memo.

He attributed this change to greater accessibility through regulated ETFs and approval by large account platforms managing trillions in client assets.

Bitwise also emphasized that Bitcoin’s path toward institutional recognition has been gradual, requiring both regulatory clarity and infrastructure improvements.

The launch of spot ETFs in January 2024 created a new on-ramp for traditional allocators, and subsequent approvals across national platforms have since accelerated the process. Hougan described the transition as occurring “brick by brick,” as Bitcoin gains a foothold in professional investment strategies.

Outlook for the Next Decade

Looking ahead, Bitwise forecasts that BTC will not only outperform but stand apart from traditional assets in terms of expected returns. The firm projects a 28.3% CAGR over the next decade, significantly higher than the long-term expectations placed on equities, bonds, and private credit by leading Wall Street institutions.

Bitwise Bitcoin projection against other assets. | Source: BitwiseInvestments.com

At the same time, while volatility is expected to remain elevated relative to other asset classes, Bitwise anticipates a steady decline as market depth expands and liquidity continues to improve.

The implications of such a forecast extend beyond performance projections. A consistent inclusion of BTC in LTCMAs could formalize its role in balanced portfolios, shaping how pensions, endowments, and wealth managers approach diversification.

Hougan cautioned that while risks remain, the framework is designed to give professional allocators a basis for strategic decision-making rather than a speculative outlook.

All Jurassic World 4K Steelbooks And Box Sets You Can Buy Now

by admin August 21, 2025

Jurassic World fans can soon add the latest film in the franchise to their home media collection. Jurassic World Rebirth stomps onto 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 9. Preorders for Rebirth’s 4K Steelbook Edition are in stock for $38 at Amazon and Walmart. If you skip the collectible case, you can get Rebirth on 4K Blu-ray for only $30 at Walmart. The standard Blu-ray edition is $25, and the DVD is $20. All four editions are top sellers on Amazon, with the 4K Steelbook and standard Blu-ray proving to be the most popular picks so far.

Launching alongside Rebirth is the new Jurassic World 7-Movie Collection on 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD. At the moment, Walmart has the best prices for the box set. The 4K Blu-ray edition is $100, while the 1080p Blu-ray edition is $70. Notably, both of these sets include digital copies that can be added to your Movies Anywhere library. The 7-Movie DVD Collection is only $50, but you won’t get digital editions.

Jurassic World Rebirth Limited Edition Steelbook

Fans interested in a Jurassic World box set should also check out the recently released Jurassic Park Trilogy 4K Steelbook and Jurassic World Trilogy 4K Steelbook. These have sold out multiple times since launching in June, but you can get each trilogy with a collectible steelbook case for $60. Featuring exclusive, display-worthy artwork and the movies on 4K, 1080p, and digital, the trilogy box sets are definitely worth considering before they’re gone for good.

You can read more about Jurassic World Rebirth’s upcoming 4K Blu-ray edition as well as the limited-edition trilogies, and franchise box sets below.

4K Steelbook for $38 | Blu-ray for $25

Jurassic World Rebirth’s Limited Edition Steelbook features screenshots from the film on the front and back covers as well as on both sides when you open the case. Admittedly, this isn’t a very inspired choice, as many steelbooks feature original artwork on at least the outside of the case. The cover still looks cool, and the $38 price is lower than many steelbook editions of blockbuster films.

The 4K disc is presented in native 4K (2160p) with HDR–Dolby Vision and HDR10 are supported–and enhanced audio via Dolby Atmos or Dolby TrueHD 7.1 surround sound. This edition also comes with a 1080p Blu-ray disc and digital copy.

  • Preorder Blu-ray at:
  • Preorder DVD at:

The 4K and 1080p Blu-ray editions of Rebirth come with over an hour of special features, including a making-of documentary and alternate opening.

$60 (was $65)

Jurassic Park Trilogy’s Limited Edition Steelbook comes with 4K Blu-ray and digital editions of first three feature films in the franchise:

  • Jurassic Park (1993)
  • The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)
  • Jurassic Park 3 (2001)

The front and back covers have illustrated collages featuring dinosaurs and locations from the movies. On the inside of the case, there’s a collage of screenshots from the trilogy. The franchise logo is imprinted below the artwork on the front cover.

The classic ’90s action films starring Jeff Goldblum look awesome in 4K UHD resolution (2160p) with High Dynamic Range (HDR10 and Dolby Vision supported). On the audio side, the trilogy is enhanced by Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD 7.1 surround sound.

Along with the three films, the collection comes with some cool bonus content, including the six-part documentary series chronicling the process of adapting Jurassic Park into a movie.

Jurassic Park Trilogy Special Features

  • Return to Jurassic Park: A six-part documentary series on the making of the trilogy
  • Archival featurettes
  • Behind-the-scenes footage
  • Audio commentary
  • Deleted scenes
  • Theatrical trailers

You can check out a full list of special features at the bottom of this story.

$60 (was $65)

The Jurassic World Trilogy’s Limited Edition Steelbook box set comes with the three films in the sequel series starring Chris Pratt:

  • Jurassic World (2015)
  • Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)
  • Jurassic World Dominion (2022)

Just like Jurassic Park’s Steelbook Edition, you’ll find illustrated artwork on the front/back covers, a screenshot collage on both interior covers, and the iconic logo imprinted near the bottom of the front cover.

Like the Jurassic Park Trilogy, each movie in this set is rendered in 4K resolution (2160p) and supports Dolby Vision and HDR10 visual enhancements as well as Dolby Atmos and and TrueHD 7.1 surround sound for immersive audio effects. The collection comes with all of the bonus content found on previous 4K editions of each film, which amounts to several hours of featurettes, cast and crew interviews, and more.

Jurassic World Trilogy Special Features

  • In-depth featurettes
  • Interviews with the cast and crew
  • Behind-the-scenes footage
  • Deleted scenes

The full list of special features can be found at the bottom of this story.

Jurassic World 7-Film Collection / Jurassic World Ultimate Collection

The 7-Movie Blu-ray Collection offers pretty solid value compared to the popular Jurassic World 6-Film Ultimate Collection. The latter is $30 less, but it doesn’t include Rebirth’s $25 Blu-ray edition or digital copies of the other six films. The Ultimate Collection and Rebirth combined are $65, five bucks less than the 7-Film Collection. Spending the extra five bucks to get digital copies of all of the movies is probably worth it for most.

The value of the 7-Movie 4K Collection is more debatable. Jurassic World’s 4K Blu-ray Ultimate Collection is on sale for $45 at Amazon. Add the price of Rebirth’s 4K standard edition (from Walmart), and you’re looking at $75 total. Once again, only the 7-Movie Collection has digital copies, so you’d have to decide whether those are worth the extra $25 to you. Of course, you could also spend $120 to get the two trilogies on 4K Blu-ray and digital with complementary steelbook cases. This is probably the ideal option for anyone who buys Rebirth’s Steelbook Edition.

Jurassic Park Trilogy Steelbook Edition | Jurassic World Trilogy Steelbook Edition

Jurassic Park and Jurassic World 4K Blu-rays

If you already own several movies in the franchise and merely need to fill in a few gaps, most of the Jurassic Park and World 4K Blu-ray editions are less than $20 each.

While you’re working your way through the roughly 12 hours of Jurassic Park/World movies (not including bonus content), you could keep your hands busy by building one of the recently released Jurassic World Lego sets. Earlier this year, Lego launched a massive 3,145-piece Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus Rex building set. Originally exclusive to the Lego Store, the display model is now available at Amazon and other major retailers for $250. There are plenty of other smaller-scale Jurassic World Lego sets as well, including discounted playsets and builds themed around the upcoming movie.

The first two films in the Jurassic Park Trilogy are based on the sci-fi thrillers by Michael Crichton. If you’ve never read the books, you can grab paperback copies of Jurassic Park and The Lost World for $9 each at Amazon.

Here’s the full list of special features for both of the new Limited Edition Steelbook box sets.

Nothing Beats Our Editors’ Favorite Office Chair, and It’s on Sale Now

by admin August 21, 2025

Office chairs can be surprisingly expensive, easily breaking $1,000 for a seaworthy seat. The Branch Ergonomic Chair Pro, with a list price of just $500, beat out a number of expensive seats from some very recognizable chair makers to earn the top spot on our office chair roundup. For labor day, Branch is offering 10% off when you use code LABORDAY on the base price of the chair, as well as any accessories you might want to add on, plus free shipping, so you can build the ultimate home office.

Ergonomic Chair Pro

Unlike some other less expensive chairs, the Ergonomic Chair Pro features an absolute raft of adjustment options. Take the armrests, for example, which have vertical, forward and back, and angular adjustments, or the seat depth, which has both depth and tilt options, and of course there’s an adjustable lumbar support.

Branch doesn’t cut corners on materials, with a powder-coated aluminum base and casters that roll smoothly on hardwood floors. There are fabric, real leather, and vegan leather options in a variety of neutral or natural colors, another option typically reserved for chairs more than twice the price.

There are a variety of discounted accessories that might put some wind in your sails. Our editor thought the headrest was a bit unnecessary, but as a 6’4″ person, appreciated the tall cylinder to sit a little higher on the waves. Whichever route you choose to navigate, you’ll save a bit of cash, which is always great when you’re picking up an expensive new piece of furniture.

Ready to keelhaul your current bridge? Branch is offering an extra five percent, for a total 15% discount, if you also pick up a desk to go with your new chair. The Branch Four Leg Standing Desk is our editors’ favorite standing desk, with an elegant, understated design and a variety of options for its rounded plywood tops. Accessories for the desk are marked down as well, although I didn’t see anything particularly exciting or unique there.

The discounts on Branch’s chairs, desks, and accessories, as well as the additional bundle discount, are already live and run until September 5th. The website says to use the promo code LABORDAY, but I saw the discounts automatically displayed on items as I browsed the site. Just make sure you see the free shipping and discounted price when you check out.

Scaramucci Compares Crypto to Uber

by admin August 21, 2025

During a recent appearance at SALT’s Wyoming Blockchain Symposium, prominent American financier Anthony Scaramucci stated that he believes that crypto will be able to gain mainstream acceptance in the same way as ride-hailing giant Uber.

“So it’s just the forces are such that these things will happen whether Wall Street is fully embracing it or not,” Scaramucci said.

Uber comparison

Scaramucci has stressed that the nascent technology provides a higher level of efficiency and security.

That said, traditional banking institutions will make their moves based on regulatory guidance from the Federal Reserve as well as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

“I mean, obviously, Larry Fink is ready for tokenization. He sees the vision of it. I think that the traditional banks are probably going to take regulatory guidance from places like the Fed or the SEC before they move forward,” Scaramucci said.

You Might Also Like

He went on to compare crypto to Uber, which used to face severe resistance from politicians. “Remember, everyone in this room has been in an Uber, but there wasn’t one government official in any major city that wanted Uber to exist,” he said.

Two main categories of investors

Scaramucci says that he would break investors into several categories. First, he thinks there’s a store of value category. “You’ve certainly got a large group of people at places like BlackRock selling that idea to big institutions,” he added.

You Might Also Like

The second category is related to utility and tokenization, with the main focus being placed on replacing third-party transaction systems.

No such thing as anti-crypto voters

Speaking of politics, Scaramucci has opined that the Democrats (especially younger ones) will not be willing to adopt the hostile anti-crypto attitude of Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren.

“There’s there’s just no anti-crypto voters out there,” he told the audience during the event.

Sonic Labs Proposes Token Issuance to Enter U.S. TradFi Markets

by admin August 21, 2025

Sonic Labs is moving to expand $S into U.S. traditional finance, aiming for ETFs, ETPs, and NASDAQ PIPE structures. The proposal, announced via X, targets institutional adoption and a stronger U.S. presence.

This project is set to be led by Sonic USA LLC, which will bring on a CEO and put together a team based in the U.S. to tackle market and regulatory opportunities.

To ensure swift strategic moves, the proposal also rolls out updated tokenomics. The plan includes launching new tokens to support a $100 million NASDAQ PIPE, a $50 million ETF allocation, and 150 million $S tokens for Sonic USA’s operations.

Right now, Sonic Labs is at a bit of a disadvantage since it only holds a small fraction of its initial allocation. Other L1 chains hold onto 50–90% of tokens, allowing for quick collaborations and increased market visibility for strategic reasons.

Strategic Goals and Token Usage

Sonic is set to fund three projects with this issuance’s tokens. To kick things off, they’ll partner with BitGo to ensure secure custody and work with an ETF provider for tracking $S in ETP/ETF products. This initial phase will provide liquidity support and ensure everything meets institutional-grade compliance.

Moreover, Sonic’s financial strategy will be bolstered by NASDAQ PIPE allocations, paving the way for long-term treasury inclusion and open market acquisitions.

Sonic USA LLC also plans to bring in new leadership, establish an office in New York City, and push for regulatory harmonization to drive domestic growth. Plus, every token transaction will be transparently recorded on-chain.

The plan also includes updates to the gas fee structure. Ninety percent of FeeM transactions are directed to builders, while five percent goes to validators, and the remaining five percent is set to be burned. For non-FeeM transactions, half will be allocated to validators, and the other half will be burned.

These changes aim to reduce net inflation, create a deflationary atmosphere, and boost the value of the $S.

Through modernizing its tokenomics and expanding into the U.S. market, Sonic could enhance its competitive edge. With the issuance of strategic reserves, Sonic can become more agile in seizing opportunities in traditional finance, improve its visibility on platforms like CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko, and encourage wider adoption.

ROG Xbox Ally: Release Date, Specs, Price and How It Compares to Steam Deck

by admin August 21, 2025

The Steam Deck has yet to find a real competitor in the PC handheld gaming device battle. Other hardware companies, including Asus, Lenovo and MSI, have tried, but so far, their devices keep falling short. Asus plans to try to take another swipe at the crown, though, this time with the help of Microsoft.

In June, the two revealed their partnership for a new handheld device: the ROG Xbox Ally. This handheld will come in two variants and will attempt to bring the Xbox console experience to a portable device. Microsoft confirmed the release date for the Xbox Ally of Oct. 16 on Wednesday, but there are still some questions about the handheld.

Will the Xbox Ally outdo the Steam Deck, or will it wind up being just another wannabe?

How much will the Xbox Ally cost?

Neither Microsoft nor Asus has confirmed an official price yet. One thing for sure is that the Xbox Ally won’t be cheap.

Multiple leaks suggest the price will be 599 euros for the Xbox Ally and 899 euros for a higher-end version, the Xbox Ally X. That does leave the question of what the price will be in the US. Most likely, the price will be the same just in dollars, as that is the typical practice for gaming hardware prices.

Discount social media poster Wario64 tweeted Best Buy listings for the Xbox Ally, Xbox Ally X, charger dock, and case on Wednesday. There’s no pricing on the site for the devices, just a button to be notified when preorders become available. However, Wario64 states the pricing on the back end shows the Xbox Ally at $550 and the Xbox Ally X at $900, while the charging dock is listed on the site $100 and case for $70. The dock and case prices are on Best Buy and are accurate. It’s unclear if Microsoft changed plans at the last minute.

Microsoft didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment about the post.

The uncertainty about the price of the Xbox Ally is likely due to tariffs. Microsoft recently increased the prices of its Xbox Series consoles and Asus has done the same with its laptops and its current ROG Ally lineup.

When does the Xbox Ally come out?

Microsoft did confirm the release date of the Xbox Ally on Oct. 16. This date was mentioned in previous leaks regarding the handheld device’s price.

When can I preorder the Xbox Ally?

Preorders are not available as of yet. In the blog post about the release date, Microsoft says preordering and pricing will be announced sometime in the future. Best Buy does have the listings for the Xbox Ally, Xbox Ally X, charging dock and case, and those interested can request to be notified when preorders become available.

What’s the difference between the Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X?

There are two versions of the Xbox Ally: the lower-priced Xbox Ally and the higher-priced Xbox Ally X.

The key differences between the two are in their processors, storage and memory. The Xbox Ally will have the AMD Ryzen Z2 A Processor, while the Xbox Ally X will use the faster AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme Processor. Memory will be different, with the lower-priced Xbox Ally having 16GB of LPDDR5X-6400 and the higher-cost handheld coming with 24GB LPDDR5X-8000. Both will come with SSD storage but the Xbox Ally will have 512GB and the Xbox Ally X will have 1TB. The Xbox Ally X will also come with a bigger battery but with a faster processor and more memory. It’s not clear if that difference in capacity translates to a longer battery life.

What makes the Xbox Ally different from the Steam Deck?

The most notable difference between the Xbox Ally and the Steam Deck is the operating system. Like the ROG Ally, the Xbox Ally will also use Windows 11, while the Steam Deck uses Valve’s SteamOS.

Even though every PC game works with Windows, handheld gaming devices running Windows have had serious issues, as the OS implementation has been a bit buggy. Portable consoles like the ROG Ally, MSI Claw and Lenovo Legion Go simply don’t run well with full Windows because the OS is designed for laptops and desktops and not handheld devices. SteamOS, however, is designed to run almost every game on Steam without issues and regardless of device size.

The Xbox Ally changes that by giving it an Xbox interface. This would be similar to how the Xbox app on PCs works for running games. It would also be able to download Xbox games directly to it, remote play them off a console or stream them via Xbox Cloud.

Another big difference is the hardware. The Steam Deck came out in 2022 and it was the first mass-produced handheld gaming device for PC. At the time, Valve had to use custom AMD processors but since then, AMD has produced more processors for handheld devices, which are now much more powerful in just a few years. The Xbox Ally would also have faster RAM. Both the improvement in processors and RAM should significantly increase the number of games the Xbox Ally can run versus the Steam Deck, which is already struggling to run newer games at 30fps.

Externally, the Xbox Ally will come with the same size 7-inch display but it will have a higher refresh rate of 120Hz, a brighter screen at 500 nits and increased resolution at 1080p. There will also be some slight differences in the physical size of the Xbox Ally, which will be a little bigger and heavier. Another difference from the Steam Deck is that the Xbox Ally controls will be more similar to the Xbox controller.

Microsoft and Asus have a large hill to climb if they plan to have the Xbox Ally dethrone the Steam Deck. It will be especially tough if Valve decides to announce the Steam Deck 2 soon.
