The Blood Of Dawnwalker Is More Than The Witcher With Vampires
Game Updates

The Blood Of Dawnwalker Is More Than The Witcher With Vampires

by admin August 23, 2025

Admittedly, from what I’ve seen of newcomer developer Rebel Wolves’ upcoming first game, The Blood of Dawnwalker, it’s given off some heavy Witcher vibes. That’s not completely misplaced, considering Rebel Wolves was formed by former CD Projekt Red devs with experience working on The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077. Sure, there are vampires, but it’s still a medieval dark fantasy where the protagonist is a gruff swordsman with one goal in mind.

After an hour-long hands-off preview with Dawnwalker, though, it’s clear this game is much more than just The Witcher with vampires. Sitting in the room, themed to look like a 14th-century chapel, I frantically took notes of what I was watching on screen, wishing the entire time I was the one playing the game.

The demo begins in the valley of the Carpathian mountains, sometime during the 14th century. A plague has swept the land, weakening humanity, making them easier than ever to be overtaken by the Vrakhiri, or a race of vampires. Our protagonist, Coen, is what’s called a Daywalker, and though details on what that entails are still murky after my preview, it’s clear he is at least part vampire.

Rebel Wolves showcased this by running us through the same quest twice: once during the night, when Coen is tapped into his vampire side, and once during the day, when he can’t use his vampiric abilities but can utilize magic. Though this quest ended on the same note both ways, there was an impressive amount of variation between the day and night versions.

Rebel Wolves began with the nighttime version of the quest.

Immediately, I’m impressed with the visuals. Sure, the game has been Epic’s baby for demonstrating Unreal Engine 5 in recent showcases, but the art team is doing some gorgeous work with lighting. The way the full moon above illuminates the central cathedral’s stained glass reminded me of the stained glass I witnessed myself at the Dom cathedral here in Cologne. Alongside the full moon high above in the sky is a red full moon, indicating Coen can tap into his vampire abilities.

Coen infiltrates a cathedral and sticks to the upper floors as, down below, a blood ritual is happening. He uses Plane Shift to walk on walls and ceilings like Spider-Man, albeit on two feet. He also utilizes Shadowstep, which allows him to teleport short distances by transforming into a moving shadow. In the cathedral, he searches nearby Frescoes painted on the ceiling, looking for a clue as to the whereabouts of St. Mihia’s crypt, which houses a sword he’s after.

After a bit more exploration, Coen fights off some enemies using his claws. It’s fast, visceral, and extremely gory, with dismemberment galore. He also uses Voracious Bite to suck their blood and regain some health. Rebel Wolves says this is useful in battle but even more effective outside of combat. Rebel Wolves also uses this encounter to show off the options to switch between a far and close camera in combat (and a separate option to customize this viewpoint in exploration, too).

We eventually reach the crypt, and this portion of the demo ends.

In the daytime version of the quest, Coen is unable to tap into his vampiric abilities, so he must investigate things more closely. To keep it somewhat spoiler-free, instead of climbing walls and ceilings and Shadowstepping to different platforms, Coen speaks with a local monk and agrees to help them find a missing person. This leads him to an abandoned portion of an asylum, and it turns out the person he’s after has become The Almshouse Monstrosity. This person is neither undead nor alive, stuck in the transition from human to vampire, and their mind is essentially gone, driven by an instinctual desire for blood.

In this form of combat, Coen uses a sword instead of claws, and it’s here that the game looks most like The Witcher. However, Rebel Wolves is doing some interesting things here. Combat features directional blocking, like what’s seen in the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series, and magic, too. After defeating this monstrosity, Coen uses the Compel Soul hex to speak with a corpse and learn what happened in this asylum. This corpse yields some useful information that eventually takes Coen to the same crypt from the conclusion of the nighttime demo, except this time, Rebel Wolves showcases what happens next. I won’t spoil it here, but it’s an awesome boss fight against an undead warrior, and it’s clear you’ll need to tap into all of Coen’s abilities to come out victorious.

Our demo ended here, and a day later, I’m voracious for more. It just looks awesome, and a great score heightens the entire experience. Like The Witcher, the score in Dawnwalker relies heavily on a high-pitched female chorus, and it rules. I can’t wait to hear more of this and see more of the vampires that run this part of the world when The Blood of the Dawnwalker launches sometime next year.

Pick up this Anker 5K magnetic power bank while it’s on sale for only $28

by admin August 23, 2025

The Anker 621 MagGo power bank is on sale for just $28 via Amazon, which is a discount of 30 percent. The deal applies to all five colorways, and there are some snazzy options to choose from.

This particular model didn’t make our list of the best power banks, but plenty of other Anker products did. The 621 MagGo is equipped with magnets that attach to the back of certain iPhone models, which makes it easy to charge up the handset while still using it. The 5,000 mAh device can juice up the latest flagship iPhone 16 Pro Max to around 60 percent when fully charged.

Anker

This is a thin and light device, so it’s perfect for pockets, purses, backpacks and just about anywhere else. It charges up via an included USB-C cable.

As a warning, the Anker 621 MagGo requires a magnetic connection via the smartphone itself or a magnetic case. It won’t work with non-magnetic cases. It also runs a bit hot, reaching internal temperatures of up to 118 F, which could be something to keep an eye on during use.

The Division 2 kicks off 10th anniversary year with The Division 2: Survivors, “an updated take on the survival extraction experience”

by admin August 23, 2025

The Division 2: Survivors is “an updated take on the survival extraction experience” coming to The Division 2.

At a panel at Gamescom, the company confirmed that though development is currently “in the early stages” under the watchful eye of creative director and “veteran of the Division from the early days of the original game”, Magnus Jansén, the team is keen to involve the community from the off.

The Division 2: The Pact – Official Launch Trailer.Watch on YouTube

“The Division 2: Survivors is as much your baby as it is ours, and we strive for transparency during its development. Clear communication and community involvement are a focus as we build the new experience, and we will be closely involving you as we move forward on the development journey,” said executive producer, Julian Gerighty.

There was no in-game artwork or screenshots to share, but Ubisoft did reveal a handful of concept art pieces, which you can see below.

We don’t quite know when to expect it – it’s still labelled as TBA for now – but we did get a little update on what else players can expect over the course of this year and next:

Interested in trying before you buy and maybe giving a little feedback as you go? Ubisoft is looking to refresh its Elite Task Program, so sign up now if you’re a “committed player [looking] to engage directly with the development team and assist in guiding the future of the Division”.

The Division Resurgence – the free-to-play mobile RPG shooter that picks up a few months after the events of the original game – is also looking for participants for closed tests on both iOS and Android. Ubisoft says it offers “the same gameplay experience as the Division games adapted to mobile gaming”, and “with a familiar map updated to reflect the passage of time, the Division Resurgence will bridge the narrative gap between the Division 1 and 2, adding to the existing lore with additional story beats over time.”

Ethereum in, Bitcoin out: Historic ‘Flippening’ Happens in ETFs

by admin August 23, 2025

  • Bitcoin spot ETFs: Six days in red
  • Ethereum ETFs logged their second-biggest monthly inflow

Cryptocurrency spot ETF investors are bringing new liquidity to Ethereum ETFs in the U.S. Yesterday, over $287 million was injected amid an 11% Ether price upsurge. Meanwhile, Bitcoin spot ETFs are bleeding, being in the red for six days in a row.

Bitcoin spot ETFs: Six days in red

U.S. Bitcoin-based spot ETFs are under pressure the past days. Since Aug. 15, 2025, the total value of all spot ETFs on Bitcoin (BTC) plunged by $1.75 billion. The session of Aug. 19 was the most devastating with $523 million being erased in 24 hours, data says.

— Crypto_Mario_ ₿. ⧉ 🧡 🅑 🟧 ⓑ (@Crypto_Mario_B) August 23, 2025

BlackRock’s IBIT is responsible for almost $200 million withdrawals, followed by Fidelity’s FBTC and ARK Investments’ ARKB products.

The total net assets for U.S. Bitcoin spot ETFs sit at $150.23 billion. With a $1.3 billion decline in this metric, BTC spot ETFs are on track to close their most bearish month since February 2025.

At the same time, Bitcoin’s (BTC) price remained relatively stable, only losing 2.3% in the last seven days. This might be a signal of investors reallocating their funds.

Bitcoin (BTC), the largest cryptocurrency, is changing hands at $114,900, being down by 2.4% in the last 24 hours on major spot trading platforms.

Ethereum ETFs logged their second-biggest monthly inflow

At the same time, catalyzed by the hotly-anticipated Ethereum (ETH) price ATH, Ethereum-based spot ETFs are blooming. In yesterday’s session, they registered a decent $287.6 million liquidity inflow.

This inflow pushed the total August 2025 growth over $2.45 billion. That being said, Ethereum (ETH) has already secured the second most bullish month for its ETFs.

BlackRock’s ETHA and Fidelity’s FETH account for the lion’s share of yesterday’s session. With new liquidity, Ethereum spot ETF segment allocated $26.55 billion in total assets. Two weeks ago, this metric reached $21 billion.

Ethereum’s (ETH) price stabilized at $4,741, being 3.6% up in the last 24 hours.

Why is Ethereum price going up today? (Aug 23)

by admin August 23, 2025

Ethereum price is going up today, Aug. 23, and is hovering at its all-time high, continuing a strong comeback that started in April when it bottomed at $1,383.

Summary

  • Ethereum price jumped to a record high after Jerome Powell’s speech at the Jackson Hole Symposium.
  • It also jumped after retesting a crucial support level, its highest point in December last year.
  • Ethereum ETF inflows resumed on Thursday and continued on Friday.

Ethereum (ETH) jumped to a record high of $4,877, bringing its market capitalization to $572 billion. This article explores some of the top reasons the ETH price is soaring.

Ethereum price is rising because of its strong technicals

The daily timeframe gives a technical reason why the Ethereum price is in a strong bullish trend. This chart shows that the coin dropped to $4,093 this week as the crypto market crashed. This was an important level as it coincided with the highest point in December last year.

Therefore, the Ethereum price jumped to a record high after completing the break-and-retest pattern, a common continuation sign. This happens when an asset breaks out and then retests the support and resistance level. It is one of the most common bullish continuation signs.

Ethereum price also has strong technicals, including that it remains above the 50-day and 100-day moving averages. The Supertrend indicator is green, while oscillators have all pointed upwards. These indicators point to more gains, potentially to $5,000.

ETH price soared after Jerome Powell’s speech

The other main reason why the Ethereum price is going up today is that investors cheer the rising odds that the Federal Reserve will slash interest rates in September.

In a statement at the Jackson Hole Symposium, Powell hinted that he was concerned about the labor market after the recent nonfarm payrolls data.

The report showed that the economy added just 73,000 jobs in July while the unemployment rate rose to 4.2%. It also showed that the economy created fewer jobs than expected in the previous two months.

A change in tune by the Fed Chair would be bullish for Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies as it would help to shift assets from the low-risk bond market to the riskier ones.

Ethereum price also jumped as inflows into its exchange-traded funds rebounded. After shedding assets for four straight days, ETH ETFs added $287 million in assets on Thursday and more on Friday. Their cumulative inflows have soared to $12.4 billion, while the total assets have risen to $30.54 billion.

More data shows that the Ethereum ecosystem is doing well, with the total stablecoin supply jumping by 10% in the last 30 days to $147 billion and the total transactions rising to $880 billion in the same period. This growth has led to higher revenues for the project.

IRS’s top crypto executive Trish Turner resigns after brief tenure

IRS’s top crypto executive Trish Turner resigns after brief tenure

by admin August 23, 2025

Trish Turner has stepped down from her position leading the Internal Revenue Service’s crypto division. This is after approximately three months in the role.

Summary

  • IRS digital assets chief Trish Turner resigns after 3 months.
  • Turner joins Crypto Tax Girl as tax director amid rising crypto compliance needs.
  • Her exit adds to ongoing leadership churn in the IRS’s crypto division.

The departure is another leadership change for the agency’s cryptocurrency unit. The agency has also experienced frequent turnover as it works to establish regulatory frameworks for digital asset taxation.

Turner announced her departure on Friday through LinkedIn and concluded over two decades of service with the tax agency. She cited her role in developing the IRS’s digital asset strategy during a period when cryptocurrencies transitioned from specialized investments to mainstream financial tools.

Private sector move shows crypto industry shift

Turner will join cryptocurrency tax firm Crypto Tax Girl as tax director, according to Bloomberg Tax reporting and confirmation from the company’s founder, Laura Walter.

“With all of the big crypto tax and compliance changes on the horizon, we are excited to have Trish on board to help advise our clients.”

Turner mentioned that she plans to continue working on digital asset tax issues from the private sector and also build connections between industry participants and regulators.

Crypto division faces continued instability

Turner’s brief tenure continues a pattern of leadership changes within the IRS’s crypto unit. She replaced Sulolit “Raj” Mukherjee and Seth Wilks, two private-sector experts who departed after roughly one year leading the digital assets division.

The transition comes as the agency faces pressure to develop comprehensive frameworks for digital asset compliance.

The Department of Government Efficiency proposed a 20% reduction in the IRS workforce in March, which affects the agency’s ability to maintain specialized cryptocurrency expertise.

The IRS’s supervisory duties regarding cryptocurrencies have become more complex in light of recent events. On July 4, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration suggested changes to the way the criminal investigation division handled digital assets.

The new content follows reports Ubisoft received investment from Saudi Arabia’s controversial Public Investment Fund (PIF) specifically to develop additional content for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The PIF is an initiative designed as a way to diversify the country’s revenues via investment in foreign companies, with a large arm focused on the video games industry. It’s chaired by Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the controversial ruler blamed by the CIA for the assassination of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who has upheld the country’s notoriously poor human rights record. Ubisoft declined to comment on the report at the time.

Despite this, the PIF holds a notable stake in a swathe of gaming companies, including Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two Interactive, Nintendo, EA, Embracer, Nexon, and Capcom.

We had a good time with Assassin’s Creed Mirage when we reviewed it, awarding it four stars, calling it “a fascinating new city and the embrace of a classic formula”.

The Fairphone 6 no longer feels like a compromise (except in the US)

by admin August 23, 2025

The Fairphone 6 arrives almost two years after the 5, a testament to the company’s approach to the upgrade cycle. If anything, I suspect the company would be frustrated if Fairphone 5 owners were considering a new model already — these are phones to keep, to repair, and to hold on to until the bitter end.

The newest Fairphone continues the company’s commitment to user-repairability, long-term customer support, and ethical production. That means compromises for the consumer: You’ll find more powerful phones with prettier displays and more capable cameras for less money. But this year those compromises are smaller and easier than ever before, while the phone remains a lot better for the planet — you can’t say fairer than that.

$899

The Good

  • Exceptionally user-repairable
  • Ethically produced
  • Decent performance
  • Long-term software support

The Bad

  • Basic cameras
  • Only IP55
  • Expensive in the US

The Fairphone 6 is available now across the UK and Europe. It costs €599 / £499 for a version running Fairphone’s custom Android software, which is fairly close to the stock experience, or €50 / £50 more running /e/OS, a privacy-centric, Google-free version of Android made by Murena. If you’re in the US, that’s the only model available, and you’ll have to buy it directly from Murena for $899, a price that Murena founder and CEO Gaël Duval told me reflects tariffs on US imports. It’s a substantial price difference that takes the Fairphone 6 from competing with midrangers like the Pixel 9A in Europe to flagships like the Pixel 10 or iPhone 16 in the US, making it significantly harder to justify.

/e/OS replaces Google’s Discover feed with a set of dedicated privacy controls. Image: Dominic Preston / The Verge

I’ve been testing the privacy-focused /e/OS version of the phone. It might not look a million miles from stock Android, but the out-of-the-box experience is quite different. It has quick access to options to block tracking cookies within apps, fake your geolocation info, or hide your IP address, along with a “Wall of Shame” listing your apps by how many times they try to track your activity. Murena describes it as “de-Googled,” which means it’s built on the Android Open Source Project, but doesn’t require a Google account to use, includes no Google apps by default, and should share none of your data with Google.

If you’re ready to commit to the Google-free life, there’s an array of relatively simple stock software, like calendar and map apps that look like they’ve been lifted from a decade ago. An app store defaults to open-source options, giving every app a privacy score with details on the trackers it uses and permissions it requires.

You can install open-source apps, or Play Store alternatives like Google and Samsung’s. Image: Dominic Preston / The Verge

The app store also lets you install just about any Android app — even the Google ones — but only if you want to. That’s thanks to microG, an open-source alternative to Google Play Services. The only caveats are that Google Wallet won’t work for NFC payments, and that some apps are a little… janky. Most seem to work, but MyFitnessPal won’t run, and a few others tend to stutter and crash.

On the hardware side, the Fairphone 6 is smaller and lighter than the 5, with a brighter and smoother 6.31-inch 120Hz display. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset isn’t flagship hardware, but it’s smooth enough most of the time, and with 8GB of RAM, it’s powerful enough for anything except serious gaming. The 4,415mAh battery lasts more than a day, and the 30W wired charging speed is fine but unimpressive, with no wireless option.

The cameras remain a big downgrade compared to the competition. The 50-megapixel main lens and 13-megapixel ultrawide are fine for the basics — and exceeded my expectations every now and then — but they struggle in the dark, in complex lighting, or with fast-moving subjects. If you just need your phone camera to be good enough then these definitely are, but you can get much better cameras for the same money (or less) elsewhere.

1/13The Fairphone 6’s main camera does the basics well.

The other big addition to the Fairphone 6 is a range of semi-modular accessories, similar to those offered with Nothing’s CMF Phone 2 Pro. There’s a lanyard, a card holder, and a loop grip, but the clever thing is that all three screw onto the phone’s rear, becoming integral parts of the hardware. I hope more options are coming.

More important is the phone’s ability to last for years. Whether you buy from Fairphone or Murena, you’ll get an extended five-year warranty. Fairphone also commits to eight years of software updates and seven Android version updates, though Murena only promises five years of software support for its version — worse than the likes of Apple, Google, and Samsung.

The Fairphone 6’s cameras aren’t anything to write home about. Photo: Dominic Preston / The Verge

I’m a fan of this slight dent on the phone’s back, which becomes a natural place to rest your little finger. Photo: Dominic Preston / The Verge

That blocky yellow button turns off the camera and mic on /e/OS phones, but switches between customizable modes to control notifications and distractions on the regular model. Photo: Dominic Preston / The Verge

The phone is made from fairly sturdy plastic, with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i on the display, and feels tough. There’s one big durability downside, though: it only has an IP55 rating for dust and water protection — good, but not great — which is the drawback of a repairable design that swaps glue for less watertight screws. So while the Fairphone 6 is more repairable than other alternatives, there’s a slightly higher risk of needing that repair in the first place, at least when it comes to sand and water.

Speaking of: you only need a single Torx T5 screwdriver to strip the phone down to parts, which connect and disconnect with a simple push, clicking into place. You can replace the battery, display, rear cover, each individual camera lens, speaker, earpiece, USB-C port, and SIM tray (which doubles as a microSD slot for expandable storage). Spare parts are sold by Fairphone and iFixit, with a promise to stock them for years. In the US, Murena should stock them, but at the time of writing, the parts aren’t on its site yet.

A Torx T5 screwdriver is all you need to take the phone apart. Photo: Dominic Preston / The Verge

Replacing the backplate — and swapping in accessories — involves just a couple of screws. Photo: Dominic Preston / The Verge

Replacing the battery requires a few more… Photo: Dominic Preston / The Verge

And taking the whole thing apart requires a little commitment, but it’s easy work. Photo: Dominic Preston / The Verge

I wanted to confirm if any idiot could pull off a repair, so I took apart every bit of the phone I could and put it back together again, which took a little over an hour and left me with a perfectly functional phone on the other side. Fairphone has some good YouTube videos to run through any given repair step by step, and it couldn’t be much easier, so long as you pay attention to screwing everything back in the right order (ahem, not a mistake I’d ever make…).

The “fair” bit of the name applies to production too. Fairphone claims to use as many recycled materials as possible, and to work with mines, recyclers, component factories, and assembly lines with fair working conditions, from living wages to worker representation. There’s no ethical consumption under capitalism, but Fairphone claims to get as close as it can.

I’ve been cautious to recommend previous Fairphones. The elevator pitch is great, but paying a premium for underpowered hardware is still a hard sell. But pure power isn’t the differentiating factor it once was, so even if the Fairphone 6 is less powerful than its counterparts, it’s still powerful enough for most of us. Still, improvements in software support and durability from other manufacturers have made Fairphone’s offering less unique — though no one offers repairability like this.

Up against midrange alternatives, as it’s priced in Europe, the Fairphone holds its own. There are small compromises, but it remains a fair choice for just about anyone. In the US, where it costs more than some flagships and comes with the de-Googled /e/OS whether you like it or not, it’s only for those truly committed to the cause.

Overwatch 2 season 18 patch notes

A new playable hero is just the beginning of a large swath of changes coming to Overwatch 2 in season 18.

Balancing changes are abound when it comes to things like Perks, Stadium Items and Powers, and more. Summer Games 2025 also returns, while Junkrat’s Loot Hunt event comes back again in September to mark the occasion.

Here’s what’s coming to OW2 in the new season when it launches on Aug. 26.

Overwatch 2 patch notes – Season 18

This is a pretty hefty update for OW2, including a new hero, plus the overhaul of many of the Perks introduced a few seasons ago, while also changing up a bunch of content within Stadium mode as well.

New support Hero – Wuyang

After a recent hero trial, the new water-wielding hero is available for all players to begin season 18. Here’s a look at his abilities and kit:

New Perks

The majority of the roster has had at least one Perk removed and replaced with a new one, making for some fun new combinations to improve upon this year’s major update for the game that came in February.

I’ve highlighted some of the most interesting new Perks below.

Advanced Info Panel

After a recent tease, OW2 confirmed it will add a new panel for Advanced Information regarding a multitude of facets of the game, like hero abilities.

“From precise damage numbers and healing output to cooldowns and other critical stats, every value will be laid out for you to make smarter plays and master your kits,” Blizzard said. “Whether you’re looking to fine-tune your aim in Competitive or curious about the real impact of your abilities, the Advanced Info Panel will give you the numbers you need to level up your strats and play with purpose.”

Hero Progression 2.0

Image via Blizzard Entertainment

Hero Progression changes in season 18 “rebuilds the system from the ground up” and is all about cosmetics to show off your proficiency and playtime for each hero. Here’s what leveling up your individual heroes can bring, with descriptions directly from Blizzard:

  • Progression Level represents how much you play overall. Every time you level up a hero, your Progression Level also goes up.
  • Your hero and account level badges are automatically prestiged after reaching certain levels.
  • Level up your heroes to earn Ascended borders, which displays in most areas during the course of a match. Opponents will not be able to see your Ascended prestige until after the match begins.
  • As you level up, kickstart your cosmetic collection for your favorite heroes by earning Highlight Intros, Emotes, Victory Poses, Player Icons, Credits, and more.
  • Additionally, unlock evolving Name Cards and Player Titles to show off your high level heroes!
  • Progression accolades can be hidden in Streamer Mode settings.

Competitive Play – Hero Skill Rating

SR is back in OW2, but this time for individual heroes, allowing players to analyze their skill level for the different characters in the game. This is purely cosmetic, though, and does not affect matchmaking in any way, with each hero skill level set between 1 and 5,000.

There’s also a rank reset with the new season, due to the plethora of different changes alongside the update.

The full, comprehensive patch notes for season 18 can be found on the OW2 website. The new season begins on Aug. 26 at 1pm CT.
