Ripple Replies to Commissioner Peirce

Ripple has responded to SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce’s recent “New Paradigm” speech with a fresh letter, shared by its Chief Legal Officer, Stuart Alderoty, on X (formerly Twitter).

In the letter, Ripple thanked the SEC’s Crypto Task Force for their May 20, 2025, meeting and offered clear points on why most crypto tokens, including XRP, are not securities.

Ripple supported its argument by citing legal analysis from Lewis Cohen, who said crypto assets sold on secondary markets are not usually considered securities.

The decision pointed out Judge Torres’ 2023 ruling which stated that trading XRP on exchanges is not considered a security, but the initial sales to institutions were considered investment contracts.

The letter criticized vague SEC standards like whether a token is “fully functional” or “sufficiently decentralized,” calling them confusing for the market. Ripple argued that such matters should be decided by Congress, not regulators.

Ripple proposed a straightforward framework: if a token was once part of an investment contract, it should no longer be treated as such when all promises to the buyer are fulfilled and the holder has no rights over the issuer.

To support innovation, Ripple also called for a safe harbor rule to protect honest crypto projects as they grow. They suggested using network maturity, not decentralization, to decide regulation, pointing to open, long-running, high-value networks without central control.

With this bold move, Ripple aims to push the SEC toward fairer, clearer crypto rules that match today’s digital asset reality.

This death was “one too many” for The Last of Us season two

One particular The Last of Us Part 2 death was “one too many” for the showrunners to include in the show’s second season.

Please note there will be spoilers for The Last of Us – both the show and the games – below.

The Last of Us Part 2 isn’t short on death and misery. Seattle is carnage, with warring factions the WLF (Wolves) and the Seraphites (Scars) taking no mercy on each other, and that’s before you add Ellie or any of the Jackson community into the mix.

The TV series has remained faithful to most of the game’s key deaths. As in Part 2, The Last of Us’ second season sees Joel, Nora, Mel, Owen and Jesse murdered, the latter three all in the series finale. One character, however, makes it out alive despite being killed in the game: Alice.

Alice is one of the WLF’s canine companions in The Last of Us Part 2, and while she may only be an animation, at the end of the day her death was one that actually hit me hardest when I played the game for the first time. When Ellie makes her way into the aquarium during her search for Abby, Alice is alerted by the noise and attacks her. Ellie then fatally stabs Alice with her switchblade. However, this doesn’t happen in the show.

Why? There are two reasons. The first is that The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin, who also penned Chernobyl, felt he couldn’t do another pet killing scene. Chernobyl is a historical miniseries which revolves around the Chernobyl disaster of 1986, and one moment sees pets culled in a bid to stem the spread of radiation.

“I think you get like one dog murdering episode a lifetime,” Mazin said when the topic of The Last of Us’ Alice came up during a recent press event (thanks, Polygon). “There are two cardinal rules in Hollywood. One: don’t spend your own money. Two: don’t kill a dog.”

The showrunner added that “because it’s live action, the nature of violence becomes much more, well, graphic. It’s more graphic because… it’s not like there’s an animation between you and it, [and] it’s very disturbing”.

So, that’s Mazin’s reason for not including Alice’s death in the show’s second season, but what was Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckman’s? Well, essentially, the finale had too much death already, with Ellie herself nearly dying at the hands of the Seraphites, before she proceeds to kill Owen and Mel (and by extension Mel’s unborn baby) pretty soon after. Then, before the episode wraps for good, Jesse is shot in the face by Abby, and dies immediately from his wound. It is all quite harrowing as it is, let alone if we then had to also see a dog get murdered in the name of revenge.

“And in our conversation, we’re like this [is] probably one too many,” Druckmann concluded.

Ninja Luxe Cafe Premier Espresso Machine Review: Beginner’s Luck

I really, really appreciate Ninja’s take on the Luxe’s milk steaming system. Some automatic espresso machines incorporate a container of milk that has to be brought back and forth from the refrigerator, like the ones from this list. The Luxe, however, keeps it classic with a pitcher that you simply add milk to and a wand that begins steaming at the press of a button, another reason why it’s great for those who want barista-quality coffee drinks without all the guesswork.

You can manually steam milk if you so choose, or you can steam milk to four programmed settings, and this includes a cold foam. There’s also a setting for a plant-based option, and the Luxe adjusts automatically to this. I had little to no issues with this milk frother and enjoyed the opportunity to practice some latte art, even if the pitcher’s spout isn’t ideal for it.

Quirks and Quality

The Luxe has a removable hopper and rapid heat-up time, which are fantastic. To the left of the machine is where much of your coffee’s assembly happens. Before you grind your coffee, you’ll place a funnel on the portafilter to keep it in place. Unfortunately, after a couple months of use, the funnel’s plastic corners are chipping.

When not in use, there’s a designated spot for the funnel on the left side of the machine alongside the pressure-click tamper. I really like this tamper, as tamping is something I often overthink (Am I creating enough pressure? Do I have an even surface?), and the Luxe’s is designed for you to apply the ideal amount of pressure.

The water reservoir doesn’t come with a filter, unfortunately. As for the drip tray, it’s easy to remove and clean. An orange notch pops up when the tray needs to be emptied. On average, I empty the drip tray every four to five drinks. A handful of times the machine has leaked, even with the drip tray being empty.

A shelf allows the Luxe to accommodate your 2-ounce espresso shots but can be removed to allow room for a travel mug as large as 18 ounces. One common gripe about the Luxe is that despite the portafilter having two spouts, there is not enough room to accommodate two espresso cups on the shelf or drip tray, which is strange. However, one of the biggest misses on this machine is that there’s no hot water spout, something I particularly enjoyed with a machine like the De’Longhi Magnifica Start.

My beef with many Ninja kitchen appliances is that sometimes they try to do too much, like the cooler with an added “frost vault.” The Ninja Luxe Cafe feels different, however, considering how intentional it was in competing with other new-age espresso machines. Pulling espresso is solid and, while occasionally inconsistent, delivers an overall smooth and robust shot. The drip coffee was good, not great, and the cold brew can be bitter since it uses the room-temperature water from the filter.

Like many Ninja products, the machine sits in a weird space. A coffee purist may choose a straightforward machine without all the assists of the Luxe, while a true beginner may not feel comfortable investing in the Luxe’s “all-in-one” style. Nevertheless, it’s an overall quality piece of equipment at a fair price that makes me view the Ninja brand with respect when it comes to its coffee game.

It’s the perfect all-around spell-slinger in Oblivion Remastered, specializing in all schools of magic from across Cyrodiil. You can summon fireballs and imps, float, turn yourself invisible, and do so while playing as an old, withered character for the full-fledged experience.

The downside to the Mage is its Light Armor, making the class rather squishy in close-quarters combat, which, unfortunately, means the majority of combat in the game. Once you grow in power, though, hoo boy, those enemies better watch out!

Bulls Hold Range Above $108K

Bitcoin is trading at $109,676 on the 4-hour chart, consolidating in a tight range just below its all-time high near $112,000. After a brief retracement from local highs, BTC has maintained its bullish structure, forming higher lows and staying well above key moving averages. The 34 EMA (green) at $108,639 acts as dynamic support, while the 50 and 100 SMAs (purple and blue) at $108,271 and $105,958 provide additional downside protection.

Volume has slightly declined during this consolidation, indicating a temporary pause rather than a reversal. Price remains comfortably above the major horizontal support level at $103,600—now a critical base for any deeper pullbacks. The uptrend remains intact as long as this zone holds.

What’s notable is BTC’s ability to hold above the 34 EMA despite increased miner inflows and broader market caution. This resilience suggests strong buyer interest and positioning ahead of a potential breakout.

To confirm continuation, bulls need to reclaim the $111K–$112K range with volume. A break above this resistance would likely trigger the next impulsive leg higher. For now, Bitcoin remains in a bullish consolidation phase, with strong support levels anchoring price action as the market awaits a decisive move.

How Will The Dogecoin Price Close Out May? Machine Learning Algorithm Leans Bearish

The Dogecoin price is in focus as the month draws to a close. The meme coin has already enjoyed a 30% gain so far in May, but this machine learning algorithm suggests that DOGE is unlikely to enjoy further gains until the end of the month.

Machine Learning Algorithm Predicts Bearish Ending For Dogecoin Price

Coincodex’s machine learning algorithm has predicted that the Dogecoin price will suffer more declines in the coming days to close the month. The algorithm predicts that DOGE will drop to $0.220052 by May 28 and then suffer another decline to $0.217269 by May 29. The top meme coin will then drop to $0.214764 and $0.213578 by May 30 and 31, respectively.

Cryptorank data shows that the Dogecoin price has already gained over 30% in May, having rallied above the psychological $0.2 level earlier this month following Bitcoin’s surge. However, based on the machine learning algorithm’s prediction, DOGE is more likely to trim these gains before the month ends.

Regardless, the Dogecoin price is on course to record its best monthly performance so far this year. Barring any massive crash, it will also be the first time this year that DOGE has witnessed a positive monthly close with double-digit gains. The meme coin recorded a 4% and 3% gain in January and April, respectively, the two months this year in which it has recorded a positive monthly close.

Meanwhile, based on historical data, June will likely be a bearish month for the Dogecoin price. DOGE has witnessed negative monthly closes in June in the last eight years. In fact, the meme coin has only recorded two positive monthly closes in June since its creation. However, both were double-digit gains, meaning that Dogecoin could record massive gains if this June ends up being a green month.

DOGE RSI Indicates Imminent Pump

In an X post, crypto analyst Trader Tardigrade stated that the Dogecoin price’s Relative Strength Index (RSI) suggests a potential upcoming pump for the meme coin. His accompanying chart showed that DOGE could rally to as high as $0.9 on this breakout to the upside. In another post, he affirmed that the meme coin is ready for blast off, which would send its price to a new all-time high (ATH).

Crypto analyst Ali Martinez highlighted the range between $0.24 and $0.26 as the most important resistance wall for the Dogecoin price. He suggested that a break above this range could spark a parabolic rally for the meme coin, with the current local high at around $0.46 in sight.

At the time of writing, the Dogecoin price is trading at around $0.22, down almost 2% in the last 24 hours, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

It’s Elden Ring Nightreign week, and there are countless punishment-hungry Soulslike devotees around the world readying themselves to prove just how good they’ve gotten through a gauntlet of randomized FromSoft boss encounters. As those nightfarers prep for the Elden Ring roguelike, however, you might be wondering:

Can I play Nightreign with my console friends?

Unfortunately, even as crossplay becomes a standard elsewhere, Nightreign’s missing out. Its heroes might be battling a malevolent force that threatens to unmake all of creation, but even they can’t cross the boundaries separating multiplayer platforms. If you’re playing on PC, your Xbox and PlayStation comrades will have to fight alone.

There’s no crossplay in Elden Ring Nightreign

Sure seems like a multiplayer-focused game should have crossplay in 2025, huh? But no, Elden Ring Nightreign doesn’t have crossplay, FromSoftware has confirmed.

When matchmaking for an expedition in Nightreign, you’ll only get partied up with other PC players. There’s no in-game friends list for adding console players, and you won’t be able to join password-locked parties hosted by Xbox or PlayStation users.

Nightreign does have cross-region matchmaking, meaning you can freely party up with players on other continents. Personally speaking, it’s been years since I’d wondered whether I’d be able to play with people in other regions, but I’d certainly rather have it than not.

You can also disable cross-region matchmaking if you’re particularly concerned about ping and connection stability, but this will likely only be an issue if you or a friend on the other side of the globe have dicey internet connections.

FromSoftware hasn’t said anything about adding crossplay post-launch, but the game’s deluxe edition on Steam does promise “additional playable characters and bosses” and “additional DLC” by the end of 2025, so obviously there are updates still in the works.

But don’t get your hopes up: Elden Ring never got PC and console crossplay, either.

This Is Where Recovery Can Start, Solana’s (SOL) Bullishness Unmatched, When Will Shiba Inu (SHIB) Wake Up?

Even though XRP has been trading in a narrow and uninspired range lately, it could be the beginning of something bigger. Since early May, lower highs have been steadily forming, indicating a slight downward tendency in the price action of XRP. At about $2.32, XRP is consolidating just above the 50 and 100 EMAs, which indicate a critical support zone and are gradually approaching a cross. XRP may need these convergent moving averages as a lifeline.

A cross between the 50 and 100 EMA has historically frequently served as the catalyst for an increase in volatility, pushing the price in either direction. In light of XRP’s recent price stagnation, a bullish breakout appears likely, especially if the larger cryptocurrency market can sustain its momentum. The volume is still excruciatingly low, though. The lackluster market activity for XRP indicates that a large number of traders are either cautious or staying out of the market.

The current setup is made even more vulnerable by this low volume; any abrupt push in either direction could cause inflated price movements. Indicating the continued uncertainty, XRP’s price action is presently reflecting a downward trend. Just above the 200 EMA, significant long-term support that has been in place since March, the price is currently trading. The asset’s short-term resilience may be put to the test if there is a clear decline below this level.

There is some optimism in the setup, though. A bullish reversal may be imminent based on the moving average’s gradual grind and the EMA’s close proximity. An important rally attempt for XRP could finally shake the asset out of its sluggishness if the 50 EMA can cross the 100 EMA from below. In this unstable environment, cautious optimism seems justified until then.

Solana paints the town green

In the entire cryptocurrency market, Solana is presently displaying some of the most potent bullish signals. Following weeks of consistent growth, SOL is currently consolidating close to $177, a crucial level that has historically caused notable spikes in volatility. The way that Solana’s moving averages line up is what is truly drawing attention. With the 200 EMA still providing support below, the 50 EMA is now encroaching on the 100 EMA.

This convergence usually signals a significant retracement or a strong breakout. Given the general mood of the market and SOL’s track record of holding higher lows, a bullish retrace may be the more likely course of events in this instance. A significant market move either upward or downward is typically preceded by a slight tapering off of volume.

This lull in volume is most likely just a pause before another bullish leg, given the positioning of these EMAs and the way SOL has been maintaining support near $160.

From a broad perspective, SOL has one of the best technical structures available. With important moving average support, it has continuously surpassed prior resistance levels. Solana has outperformed many of its peers by maintaining its bullish stance even during times of general market uncertainty.

As usual, though, no setup is assured. If the expected bounce from the moving average convergence is not achieved, there may be a brief decline that tests lower supports in the $150-$160 range.

However, considering how strongly SOL has been bid up in recent weeks and the fact that the majority of indicators are still bullish, a major retrace appears to be more of a buying opportunity than a trend reversal. Solana is currently one of the market’s most technically bullish assets poised for a final blow-off move or a slight decline that will prepare the market for the next leg higher. Traders should monitor those EMAs that are convergent because they will probably reveal the rally’s next phase.

Shiba Inu is sleepy

Market observers are getting impatient for signs of life after Shiba Inu (SHIB) has been trapped in an excruciatingly small trading range for weeks. The price has been clinging to support at $0.000014, but it has not recovered enough to generate any considerable bullish momentum. SHIB is trapped between major moving averages on the daily chart. Slightly above $0.0000159, the 50 EMA and 100 EMA have served as a resolute ceiling, while the 200 EMA hangs over the market as a test of bullish resolve.

It appears unlikely that SHIB will make a significant rally until it can confidently break above these levels. But there is a bright side. The strength of the eventual breakout may increase with the length of time SHIB stays coiled beneath these resistance lines. Around $0.0000135-$0.0000142, the current price is attempting to enter a historically significant support strip. This support might serve as a catalyst for the volatility spike that traders have been anticipating if it holds.

A noticeable lack of volume contributes to the feeling of bottled up energy. Usually, traders wait for confirmation before making a move, so low volume comes before explosive moves. If a clear breakout above the 200 EMA, which is currently at $0.0000159, will be accompanied by a volume spike, SHIB may rapidly rise, with the $0.0000170-$0.0000180 region as its next target.

A failure to maintain the $0.0000135-$0.0000140 zone, on the other hand, could encourage a decline back down to $0.0000120, or even the $0.0000105 level, where there is more solid historical support. Right now, patience and compression are key to SHIB’s price performance. The chart indicates that a moment of reckoning is imminent, but in the meantime, it is a matter of keeping an eye on important levels and waiting for SHIB to wake up.

Batman and Deadpool to star in first DC/Marvel Comics crossover in 20 years

DC and Marvel Comics are joining forces for the first time in 22 years, and the companies are hanging the long-awaited collab on two icons: Batman and Deadpool. According to Entertainment Weekly, the two comic book juggernauts will square off in a pair of one-shot specials starring the Bats and everyone’s favorite Merc With a Mouth. DC Comics will publish Batman/Deadpool #1, written by Grant Morrison and drawn by artist Dan Mora. Marvel Comics will release Deadpool/Batman #1 will be penned by Zeb Wells, while Greg Capullo will handle the book’s art.

Additionally, each story will feature “backup adventures” focused on other characters within the Marvel and DC Comics universes; the details regarding these other characters is currently unknown. Fans can expect to get their hands on Deadpool/Batman #1 on September 17, 2025, followed by a November release for Batman/Deadpool #1.

DC’s president, chief creative officer, and publisher Jim Lee explained to EW why the two companies were unleashing a crossover for the first time since 2003’s JLA/Avengers special.

“It happens kind of once every generation of readers. I’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions as to why,” said Lee. “The timing has to be right in that you don’t want to do these too often. You want them to feel special. It is sort of finding that right moment for both companies to come together because it is complex. There’s a lot more coordination, collaboration, approvals that have to be done. And, obviously, from the business side, you’re sharing revenue, but it’s going to be a big deal. So you want the story, creatively, to warrant the hype of it all.”

As for the reason why Marvel and DC Comics landed on Deadpool and Batman to lead this moment, Marvel Entertainment president Dan Buckley explained that Bruce and Wade “felt like a fun combo.”

“I’ll be quite frank…It was nothing more complicated than that,” Buckley said. “Like, Deadpool hanging out with Batman. There’s a lot of levity to be had in there, a lot of fun. And it would also be a little bit uber violent at the same time…Our big thing is we want to do something that is a lot of fun, showcase comics, generate excitement, and bring new readers or lapsed readers back into the industry.”

As for the future of Marvel and DC Comics working relationship, Buckley and Lee detailed that the companies were already hard at work on another crossover one-shot for 2026. And, of course, no word has been revealed on which characters will appear in that story.

Anthropic brings web search to free Claude users

Anthropic is continuing to trickle down features to its free users. The latest one to make the leap out of subscriber-only mode is web search, which the company introduced to its AI chatbot Claude in March. According to Anthropic, connecting Claude to the web allows it to deliver more accurate responses based on the most up-to-date information available online. This feature is available to all Claude users starting today.

In addition, Anthropic has begun beta tests for voice mode on its mobile apps. This option lets users interact with Claude in natural conversations in an expansion of the platform’s existing dictation tools. There will be five voice options available to assign to Claude, and the AI assistant can provide full transcripts and voice mode summaries after a conversation.

May has been a busy month for Anthropic, which just launched two new models last week. Opus 4 is a powerful coding-focused system that can use multiple tools in parallel and can run for several hours at a time, while Sonnet 4 is a hybrid reasoning model designed to move between quick queries and more complex ones. The current beta testing of voice mode will default to Sonnet 4.
