Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut preview

by admin May 21, 2025

This is the first time I’ve returned to Yakuza 0 since I first played it when it was released on PS4 in 2017. Despite coming out the same week as other notable PS4 games like Resident Evil 7 and Gravity Rush 2, it went on to be a massive success.

For those unfamiliar with Yakuza or the larger Like a Dragon series, the series started on the PlayStation 2 and is often seen as a successor to Shenmue. The original games are 3D beat-em ups with gripping crime drama stories that house tons of twists and turns. They’re also known for their copius amounts of side activities and those are just as plentiful as the story itself. Whether you’re playing classic Sega arcade games, singing karaoke, racing RC cars, playing darts, or even a business management minigame. Yakuza 0 specifically is a series prequel that first launched worldwide in January 2017 and this Director’s Cut release is the first time the game has come to a Nintendo platform.

Yakuza 0 made its way to Xbox and PC but that port was content adjacent to that original PlayStation 3 and 4 releases. Director’s Cut adds tons of additional content such as additional cutscenes, a new English dub, and the biggest addition is probably an entire raid mode with online support. Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves here, as we didn’t get to experience a ton in the short time we had with the game.

We were dropped into the beginning of Chapter 3, playing as Majima with his standard form for combat. I ran around Sotenbori for a bit, tried to go fishing but failed, played some Space Harrier, and punched some goons. The game ran at a decent frame rate and resolution, 1080p and 60 frames per second. Though it’s worth noting the high amount of pop in and the texture quality being low on both the UI and the signs around the city. I imagine the game will look fine in handheld mode, but it was worth noting.

Combat felt responsive, I was able to pull off combos consistently enough though options were limited because of the placement in the story. Given how short our playtime was, we didn’t get to hear much of the English dub but I imagine if you’ve enjoyed Matt Mercer’s take on the Mad Dog so far, you’ll enjoy his performance here.

After a while we were told to hop to the main menu to try the new Raid Mode. The raid mode has multiple challenges from level one to six, though we only were told to try levels one and three. Each one has multiple stages – each with their own layouts, weapon pickups, and even some boss fights.

There are over 60 playable characters, mostly comprised of various goons you’ll encounter in Yakuza 0. But all three forms of Kiryu and Majima, along with a few of the boss characters like Kuze – with their own movesets. I immediately jumped into the third rank, safety be damned. I’m a gamer, I’m tough enough. And yeah, if you’ve played a decent amount of Yakuza 0, the first couple tiers may be a bit easy. But even then, what I played felt like a well-balanced challenge.

I played as Kiryu just to keep things simple for the time being but there’s an entire system of landing hits to build up combos which grants additional money and time. It’s a fun beat-em up mode but like some Yakuza side modes, this is more of an extensive minigame than it is its own entire game.

Maybe in a demo setting, it doesn’t feel as satisfying since almost everything gets unlocked after finishing one round. There is a leveling system as well, which I imagine will add replayability, using the money you earn from challenges to increase the capabilities of your lineup. It’ll be interesting to see how well the full mode plays once the game is out, but for what it’s worth, this was a fun time. I imagine it’ll all come together more once we have access to the online modes where you can play with friends or randoms.

Overall, Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut is shaping up to be yet another fantastic experience. Yakuza 0 is already one of Sega’s greatest games of the modern era with its intense narrative and cavalcade of side content both heartfelt and silly. Having all of that portably on Nintendo Switch 2 with additional options, features, and a new mode has me really excited for the full release on June 5th. Thanks again to Sega for the opportunity! You can expect GamingTrend will be covering Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut and more near launch in just a couple weeks. We also have previews for Atlus’s Raidou Remastered and Sega’s Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S if you’re interested in those so keep it locked to GamingTrend!

Iowa Court Rules in Favor of Bitcoin ATM Operator in Scammed Money Case

by admin May 21, 2025

In brief

  • The Iowa Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Bitcoin ATM operator Bitcoin Depot.
  • The court ruled that money paid into a Bitcoin Depot ATM as part of separate scams in 2023 and 2024 must be returned to the company.
  • The decision reversed a lower court ruling that the seized cash should be returned to the scam victims.

The Iowa Supreme Court has ruled that money paid into a Bitcoin Depot ATM as part of separate scams must be returned to the company, and not to the victims, reversing a lower court ruling.

The two scams happened in July 2023 and February 2024, when the corresponding victims were separately contacted by scammers and coerced into transferring Bitcoin worth $14,000 via a Bitcoin Depot ATM in Linn County.

Police had seized the deposited cash as part of their investigations but were unable to retrieve the transferred BTC.

A district court had ruled that the seized cash, totalling $28,000, should be returned to the victims, prompting Bitcoin Depot to appeal to the Iowa Supreme Court.

According to the ruling from Justice Dana Oxley, the victims entered into a contract with Bitcoin Depot ATM, which warned the victims about potential scams prior to the transfer of the purchased BTC.

The victims had specified that they owned the wallets to which they were sending BTC, since this is the only way of completing a transfer using Bitcoin Depot ATMs.

However, one victim, Carrie Carlson, argued that the contract she’d entered into with Bitcoin Depot should be voided, since she was acting under duress.

But the Iowa Supreme court ruled that the company had no way of knowing that Carlson and the other victim were acting under duress, with Judge Oxley rejecting Carlson’s arguments that the warning shown by Bitcoin Depot was evidence of prior knowledge.

“Here, the fact that Bitcoin Depot recognized risks in its industry and the use of its ATMs and then warned its customers—to the point of barring a transaction unless the user certifies that the wallet is their own—does not make it liable for every improper transaction,” she wrote.

The court has therefore ruled to “remand the case with instructions to return the seized funds to Bitcoin Depot,” leaving the victims out of pocket.

Bitcoin Depot told Decrypt that the decision supports the importance of due process and reinforces the role crypto operators can play in preventing and addressing fraud.

“Bitcoin Depot respects the Iowa Supreme Court’s decision and views it as a positive step toward clarifying the legal framework surrounding crypto transactions and affirming the importance of working with compliant, transparent operators like Bitcoin Depot,” the spokesperson said.

The company is separately embroiled in a larger legal battle in Iowa, after Attorney General Brenna Bird sued the company and fellow ATM provider CoinFlip in February.

According to the allegations, Iowans have lost around $20.4 million as a result of sending funds via Bitcoin Depot and CoinFlip.

The Attorney General’s office says that scams account for 98.16% of the money Iowans have sent via Bitcoin Depot since October 2023, when it began an investigation into cryptocurrency ATM firms (the corresponding percentage for CoinFlip is 94.92%).

Bird also alleges that Bitcoin Depot and CoinFlip take cuts of 23% and 21% of all cryptocurrency transactions sent via their respective ATMs, and that Bitcoin Depot is misleading about the terms of its refund policy.

“We already know that [fraudsters] target older Iowans, but now it seems that they even hunt through obituaries to target widows […] And the crypto ATM companies take a cut of the profits,” said Bird.

Decrypt has contacted CoinFlip for comment.

Bitcoin Depot told Decrypt that it has already implemented several layers of protection, including ID verification, transaction monitoring, live support and automated scam warnings.

“Our dedicated law enforcement liaison team, staffed by former law enforcement, works closely with agencies across the country,” said the spokesperson. “We regularly assist investigators using our blockchain analytics to trace transactions, recover stolen funds, and help solve active cases, and we’ll continue supporting and assisting law enforcement wherever possible.”

Edited by James Rubin, and his team will be discussing internally around that as well. So you’re very excited to like, stay abreast of how things progress as they build out the product suite itself. I think they’ve chosen a pretty difficult area to build towards, in the sense of like, out like automating and creating access to like algorithmic trading strategies is hard.

Xbox mobile game store launch “stymied” by Apple, says Microsoft

by admin May 21, 2025

Microsoft has sided with Epic in its feud against Apple, claiming the iPhone maker has “stymied” the company’s efforts to launch its Xbox mobile game store.

Back in May last year, Microsoft announced plans to release a new Xbox mobile game store. At this time, the company envisioned it to be ready for release by that summer. However, this did not happen.

Now, Microsoft has filed a legal brief in support of Epic Games as part of Apple’s appeal against a recent ruling, which follows a five-year legal battle between Epic and Apple, and has now resulted in Fortnite making its return to the App Store in the US. Here, Microsoft shed more light on the delay to its own mobile store.

The Death of Console Exclusives Is Inevitable and I Don’t Know How I Feel About It. Watch on YouTube

Microsoft stated it wishes to “offer consumers a workable solution by launching its own online store”, but efforts have been “stymied” by Apple and its strict App Store rules.

As shared by The Verge, this is how Microsoft explains its current situation:

“The district court’s injunction allows Apple to maintain its in-app exclusivity but at least should have enabled Microsoft to offer consumers a workable solution by launching its own online store – accessible via link-out – for in-app items to be purchased off-app and used in games or other apps. And that is what Microsoft wants to do. But even this solution has been stymied by Apple.

“Prior to the district court’s most recent order, Microsoft had been unable to implement linked-out payments (or even inform customers that alternative purchase methods exist) because of Apple’s new anti-steering policies that restrict Microsoft’s communication to users and impose an even higher economic cost to Microsoft than before the injunction.”

As noted by the publication, the recent court ruling does make it possible for Microsoft to launch its mobile store, but the company still wants to ensure Apple’s appeal against the ruling is unsuccessful, in order to avoid having to potentially remove its own store further down the line.

Microsoft notes in its filing that Apple “makes no argument that the technical or policy changes cannot be undone”, and that the company’s own “experience managing app stores confirms that Apple’s policies could be restored if Apple ultimately prevails on appeal”.

We will keep you abreast of any further developments regarding both Epic vs Apple, and Xbox’s mobile store.

Google's Android XR prototype demonstrated at Google I/O 2025
Product Reviews

Hands on: I tried Google’s Android XR prototype and they can’t do much but Meta should still be terrified

by admin May 21, 2025

Why you can trust TechRadar

We spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you’re buying the best. Find out more about how we test.

The Google Android XR can’t do very much… yet. At Google I/O 2025, I got to wear the new glasses and try some key features – three features exactly – and then my time was up. These Android XR glasses aren’t the future, but I can certainly see the future through them, and my Meta Ray Ban smart glasses can’t match anything I saw.

The Android XR glasses I tried had a single display, and it did not fill the entire lens. The glasses projected onto a small frame in front of my vision that was invisible unless filled with content.

To start, a tiny digital clock showed me the time and local temperature, information drawn from my phone. It was small and unobtrusive enough that I could imagine letting it stay active at the periphery.

The first feature I tried was Google Gemini, which is making its way onto every device Google touches. Gemini on the Android XR prototype glasses is already more advanced than what you might have tried on your smartphone.

I approached a painting on the wall and asked Gemini to tell me about it. It described the pointillist artwork and the artist. I said I wanted to look at the art very closely and I asked for suggestions on interesting aspects to consider. It gave me suggestions about pointillism and the artist’s use of color.

The conversation was very natural. Google’s latest voice models for Gemini sound like a real human. The glasses also did a nice job pausing Gemini when somebody else was speaking to me. There wasn’t a long delay or any frustration. When I asked Gemini to resume, it said ‘no problem’ and started up quickly.

That’s a big deal! The responsiveness of smart glasses is a metric I haven’t considered before, but it matters. My Meta Ray Ban Smart Glasses have an AI agent that can look through the camera, but it works very slowly. It responds slowly at first, and then it takes a long time to answer the question. Google’s Gemini on Android XR was much faster and that made it feel more natural.

Google Maps on Android XR wasn’t like any Google Maps I’ve seen

Then I tried Google Maps on the Android XR prototype. I did not get a big map dominating my view. Instead, I got a simple direction sign with an arrow telling me to turn right in a half mile. The coolest part of the whole XR demo was when the sign changed as I moved my head.

If I looked straight down at the ground, I could see a circular map from Google with an arrow showing me where I am and where I should be heading. The map moved smoothly as I turned around in circles to get my bearings. It wasn’t a very large map – about the size of a big cookie (or biscuit for UK friends) in my field of view.

As I lifted my head, the cookie-map moved upward. The Android XR glasses don’t just stick a map in front of my face. The map is an object in space. It is a circle that seems to remain parallel with the floor. If I look straight down, I can see the whole map. As I move my head upward, the map moves up and I see it from a diagonal angle as it lifts higher and higher with my field of view.

By the time I am looking straight ahead, the map has entirely disappeared and has been replaced by the directions and arrow. It’s a very natural way to get an update on my route. Instead of opening and turning on my phone, I just look towards my feet and Android XR shows me where they should be pointing.

Showing off the colorful display with a photograph

(Image credit: Philip Berne / Future)

The final demo I saw was a simple photograph using the camera on the Android XR glasses. After I took the shot, I got a small preview on the display in front of me. It was about 80% transparent, so I could see details clearly, but it didn’t entirely block my view.

Sadly that was all the time Google gave me with the glasses today, and the experience was underwhelming. In fact, my first thought was to wonder if the Google Glass I had in 2014 had the exact same features as today’s Android XR prototype glasses. It was pretty close.

My old Google Glass could take photos and video, but it did not offer a preview on its tiny, head-mounted display. It had Google Maps with turn directions, but it did not have the animation or head-tracking that Android XR offers.

There was obviously no conversational AI like Gemini on Google Glass, and it could not look at what you see and offer information or suggestions. What makes the two similar? They both lack apps and features.

Which comes first, the Android XR software or the smart glasses to run it?

(Image credit: Philip Berne / Future)

Should developers code for a device that doesn’t exist? Or should Google sell smart glasses even though there are no developers yet? Neither. The problem with AR glasses isn’t just a chicken and egg problem of what comes first, the software or the device. That’s because AR hardware isn’t ready to lay eggs. We don’t have a chicken or eggs, so it’s no use debating what comes first.

Google’s Android XR prototype glasses are not the chicken, but they are a fine looking bird. The glasses are incredibly lightweight, considering the display and all the tech inside. They are relatively stylish for now, and Google has great partners lined up in Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.

The display itself is the best smart glasses display I’ve seen, by far. It isn’t huge, but it has a better field of view than the rest; it’s positioned nicely just off-center from your right eye’s field of vision; and the images are bright, colorful (if translucent), and flicker-free.

When I first saw the time and weather, it was a small bit of text and it didn’t block my view. I could imagine keeping a tiny heads-up display on my glasses all the time, just to give me a quick flash of info.

This is just the start, but it’s a very good start. Other smart glasses haven’t felt like they belonged at the starting line, let alone on retail shelves. Eventually, the display will get bigger, and there will be more software. Or any software, because the feature set felt incredibly limited.

Still, with just Gemini’s impressive new multi-modal capabilities and the intuitive (and very fun) Google Maps on XR, I wouldn’t mind being an early adopter if the price isn’t terrible.

My Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses are mostly just sunglasses now (Image credit: Future / Philip Berne)

Of course, Meta Ray Ban Smart Glasses lack a display, so they can’t do most of this. The Meta Smart Glasses have a camera, but the images are beamed to your phone. From there, your phone can save them to your gallery, or even use the Smart Glasses to broadcast live directly to Facebook. Just Facebook – this is Meta, after all.

With its Android provenance, I’m hoping whatever Android XR smart glasses we get will be much more open than Meta’s gear. It must be. Android XR runs apps, while Meta’s Smart Glasses are run by an app. Google intends Android XR to be a platform. Meta wants to gather information from cameras and microphones you wear on your head.

I’ve had a lot of fun with the Meta Ray Ban Smart Glasses, but I honestly haven’t turned them on and used the features in months. I was already a Ray Ban Wayfarer fan, so I wear them as my sunglasses, but I never had much luck getting the voice recognition to wake up and respond on command. I liked using them as open ear headphones, but not when I’m in New York City and the street noise overpowers them.

I can’t imagine that I will stick with my Meta glasses once there is a full platform with apps and extensibility – the promise of Android XR. I’m not saying that I saw the future in Google’s smart glasses prototype, but I have a much better view of what I want that smart glasses future to look like.

Jurassic World Rebirth Trailer Reveals Super Cute Backpack Dino

by admin May 21, 2025

Screenshot: Universal / Kotaku

Jurassic World Rebirth’s second and final trailer is here and while it gives us a good look at the big nasty dino stalking our heroes, the only thing I care about is that cute dinosaur hanging out in a backpack. I love that dinosaur now and I’ll protect it with my life.

The Week In Games: What’s Coming Out Beyond In Stars And Time

On May 20, Universal released the final trailer for its upcoming Jurassic sequel, Jurassic World Rebirth aka Jurassic Park 7: Jurassic World 4: Rebirth. In the trailer we get a better look at the new hybrid monstrosity as it seemingly breaks out of Ingen’s lab. We also see what might be another hybrid with wings attack our heroes, too. And for fans of the original Jurassic Park books, this new movie is going to finally recreate the scary T-Rex river sequence.

But whatever, who cares about all of that. What I want to see more of is that adorable dino hanging out in that young girl’s backpack. It looks like a baby triceratops and I love it so much. Hopefully she and her new owner make it off dino island in one piece.

Here’s the full synopsis from Universal:

Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived.

The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.

Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure genetic material from the world’s three most massive dinosaurs.

When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on an island where they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades.

Jurassic World Rebirth is directed by Garth Edwards (Rogue One, Monsters) and written by OG Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp. The new sequel is set to hit theaters on July 2 and stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali.

No, Bitcoin Price Is Not Overheated Yet, Bullish Data Emerge On-chain

by admin May 21, 2025

The leading digital currency Bitcoin (BTC) has kept investors speculating since May 8, when it breached the $100,000 level. Many anticipated a bullish rally above its current all-time high (ATH) of $109,114, but this has yet to happen, leading some to believe that Bitcoin is overheated.

NVT golden cross signals market still in safe zone

However, per CryptoQuant insights, a Bitcoin on-chain metric, the Network Value to Transaction (NVT) has not signaled overheating yet.

According to CryptoQuant, Bitcoin NVT Golden Cross has reached 1.51 points, which is still some comfortable points away from the overheated zone of 2.2.

NVT Golden Cross Doesn’t Signal Overheating Yet

“Historically, readings above 2.2 have signaled the beginning of overheated conditions. While we’re not there yet, the rising trend deserves attention.” – By @burak_kesmeci pic.twitter.com/YaClQtHt6F

— CryptoQuant.com (@cryptoquant_com) May 21, 2025

Notably, the NVT Golden Cross is a valuation tool that compares Bitcoin’s market capitalization to the network’s transaction volume. This comparison aims to show whether the asset is overvalued or undervalued in the short term.

Although it does not have a 100% accuracy rate, a value above 2.2 has historically marked periods when BTC is tagged overheated. Due to speculation, the asset is experiencing a price increase faster than real network usage.

The current value of 1.51 highlighted by CryptoQuant suggests that although the metric is climbing and investors should pay attention, it does not constitute a red flag yet.

However, traders might want to monitor the development closely to avoid being caught unawares while making speculative guesses.

Bitcoin investor appetite on rise

The update appears necessary as Bitcoin has seen a spike in investor interest on the crypto market.

As reported by U.Today, Bitcoin Open Interest recently hit $74 billion as the price rallied, triggering renewed confidence among traders betting on the futures market.

Meanwhile, institutional interest has also increased, with Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recording impressive inflows. According to data, a total of $329.02 million of inflows were recorded on May 20, 2025, on the Bitcoin ETF market.

According to CoinMarketCap data, the Bitcoin price has increased by 1.59% to $106,654.59 in the last 24 hours.

1,100% Explosion on Shiba Inu (SHIB) Market Raises Lots of Questions

1,100% Explosion on Shiba Inu (SHIB) Market Raises Lots of Questions

by admin May 21, 2025

With inflows up 1,109% and outflows up 822% over the last seven days, Shiba Inu, one of the most watched meme coins on the market, has seen an unprecedented spike in on-chain activity. These figures increase even more over the 30- and 90-day periods, showing an astounding +1,155% and +1,141% increase in inflows, respectively. At 1,582% and 815%, respectively, outflows are not far behind. All that surge in activity is raising numerous questions: who’s behind it? Why is the price not moving, and what should the market expect?

These numbers point to a highly erratic on-chain environment with significant capital movement taking place on both ends. SHIB is still in the consolidation phase on the price chart, trading at about $0.000016, just below the 200 EMA resistance level. Although there have been rapid changes on the chain, price momentum has not yet materialized. This implies that internal repositioning, profit-taking or preemptive allocation may be more responsible for the large holder behavior than new retail demand or strong market conviction.

Source: IntoTheBlock

At the moment, the 200 EMA at $0.000016 serves as a definite resistance level, while the 100 EMA at $0.000014 is still a critical support level. Volume has stayed low in comparison to the early May surge, and the RSI is in neutral territory at about 60, suggesting that there is potential for either continuation or retracement. These factors support a more cautious near-term outlook. The increase in inflows and outflows is simultaneously a warning sign and a sign of good things to come.

You Might Also Like

In light of changing macro and market conditions, it marks a time of significant redistribution, most likely planned by whales to modify their exposure to SHIB. Such activity usually comes before a directional move, but it is unclear if this will resolve bullishly or result in a local top without price and volume confirmation.

SHIB traders are currently advised to keep an eye on the price boundaries at $0.0000135 and $0.000016. The next big trend may be determined by a breakout above or below these. Without strong technical follow-through, this behavior might just remain noise, but in a larger context, it might resemble the meme-driven hype cycles from previous bull phases.

McDonald’s Snack Wrap: Is the Viral Food Favorite Returning on July 14?

by admin May 21, 2025

McDonald’s is riding a viral wave. The fast-food chain’s Minecraft Happy Meals and adult Minecraft Meals hit restaurants on April 1 and sold out quickly. Diners ordering a Happy Meal these days will find a Squishmallow theme meal instead. But there’s more viral buzz about another McDonald’s product online. People are eagerly awaiting the return of Snack Wraps, a chicken-tortilla entree that’s been missing from US locations of the Golden Arches since 2020.

Read more: Review: McDonald’s Minecraft Meals Feature The Hottest Nugget Sauce Ever

On April 15, McDonald’s tweeted “snack wraps 0x.14.2025,” hinting the wraps would return on the 14th of an upcoming month. This leaves fans having to check their McDonald’s mobile app or local restaurant menus on the 14th of every month, hoping the wraps will make an appearance. The wraps didn’t appear in restaurants on May 14, so now fans must check again in June, and again in July if the June date does not pan out.

At least one Reddit users seems to think the McDonald’s Snack Wraps could return on July 14. One user wrote, “It’s July, I work for McDonald’s, they revealed the date on the employee app.”

But another person posted, “It’s not July. I work at McDonald’s corporate and can confirm.”

Neither of those posts can be confirmed.

June 14 is a Saturday, while July 14 is a Monday. Some suggest that McDonald’s would be more likely to launch a new product on a Monday than on a weekend, so if that’s true, July 14 could be the day.

A representative for McDonald’s did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Snack Wrap fever

Snack Wraps first came out in 2006, and were meant to be a chicken item that would appeal to drive-thru customers. There are different versions, but the basic one includes white-meat chicken strips known as McCrispy Strips wrapped in a flour tortilla with cheese and lettuce with either ranch, honey mustard or salsa. McCrispy Strips are a reworked version of a chicken item formerly known as Chicken Selects.

Zach Ciampa, who regularly covers new food releases under the social-media handle Snach With Zach, said there’s been an intense fanbase out there for the wraps. “Regarding McDonald’s Snack Wrap, it’s by far the most requested item I’ve ever seen my audience ask or demand to come back,” he told CNET. “Not just the most requested in recent memory, but the most requested of all time. And that’s not limited to McDonald’s.” Ciampa said the only similar fast-food items that come close to the same level of interest are Dairy Queen’s S’mores Blizzard and Taco Bell’s Caramel Apple Empanada, both of which also made recent returns.

“I’ve been covering food releases for years, and in that time, I’ve seen countless comments to the tune of ‘We don’t want this. We want the Snack Wrap,’ and, ‘Can you tell us when the Snack Wrap is coming back?'” he said. “A couple years ago, the chances of its return were pretty bleak. However, things escalated pretty quickly in late 2023 when McDonald’s did indeed announce that the Snack Wrap would return in a new form. Since then, details have slowly but surely trickled out, and the hype has steadily grown.”

While Snack Wraps left McDonald’s locations in the US back in 2020, they remained available at Canadian and UK restaurants. The current online McDonald’s Canada menu includes several tortilla-wrapped items, including ones with crispy chicken, grilled chicken, buffalo chicken and chicken with a sweet chili sauce.

Jasper Tanner-Barnes joins Fireshine Games as chief portfolio officer

by admin May 21, 2025

UK-based publisher Fireshine Games has appointed Jasper Tanner-Barnes as its chief portfolio officer.

The newly established role will see Tanner-Barnes secure and maintain partnerships and oversee Fireshine’s portfolio strategy in addition to its acquisitions and business development.

“Fireshine has already proven it can spot breakout opportunities,” Tanner-Barnes tells GamesIndustry.biz.

“As CPO, my role is to build on that momentum: shaping a strategic roadmap that balances creative bets with smart, disciplined investment to develop and grow our label further.”

He adds: “Beyond strategy, I take pride in a highly authentic leadership style – grounded in accountability to both our Fireshine team and our development partners – and I’m proud to join a company that lives with these same values.”

Tanner-Barnes will also focus on enhancing the distribution of Fireshine’s digital portfolio.

“Alongside our rich history of supporting the physical distribution of some of the greatest titles in recent indie gaming, we’re now focused on scaling our digital publishing impact with the same care and precision,” he explains.

“With Pulsatrix Studios’ A.I.L.A and Weird Beluga’s Duskfade on the horizon, and a sharper focus on our portfolio, we’re setting out to define what modern publishing can look like.”

Tanner-Barnes previously worked at Team17 as talent acquisition manager and head of game scouting.

He also worked at Ubisoft Leamington as talent acquisition specialist and Sega Hardlight as technical recruitment manager.

“We’re delighted to be able to welcome Jasper to Fireshine Games,” said Fireshine CEO Brian Foote.

“The knowledge, passion and experience he brings will help us build deeper relationships with developers and partners and take Fireshine Games towards the next chapter in our journey.”

Fireshine Games was founded in 2014, following a rebrand from Sold Out Games. Foote was appointed CEO earlier this year following the retirement of former CEO James Cato.
