YGG Launches New Publishing Arm, Debuts First Game ‘LOL Land’

After four years of watching Web3 games struggle to find their audience, Yield Guild Games decided the industry had to rethink how it matches players with the kind of games they’re actually in for: lighthearted chaos, in a “casual degen” vibe.

Instead of chasing broad mainstream adoption, the guild protocol launched YGG Play, a new game publishing unit dedicated to games that embrace the degen culture, with LOL Land, a web browser-based game explicitly designed for crypto-native players who live in the proverbial trenches.

“People play casual games on their phones while commuting, waiting in line, or taking a break,” Gabby Dizon, co-founder of YGG, told Decrypt. “They do it for fun as well as rewards like streaks, badges, or collectibles. And they happily spend a lot of real money on those games.”

Through its years of establishing a foothold with Web3 gamers by pioneering the so-called “play-to-earn” movement from 2020, YGG has learned “what’s fun, what works and what doesn’t,” leading it to develop “some very strong opinions on how to best serve the crypto market,” Dizon explained in a separate statement shared with Decrypt.

The move represents a strategic shift for YGG from investing in Web3 games to creating them directly. Rather than targeting mainstream gamers, the guild is focusing on crypto-native users who trade memecoins, mint NFTs, and engage in speculative activities.

The new game, LOL Land, features four thematic boards, including YGG City, Beach Day, Carnival, and Ice World Wonderland, which showcases Pudgy Penguins IP with playable characters based on community members like Aaron Teng and Rusk0f. 

The game offers two distinct gameplay modes. Free play provides unlimited rolls without token rewards, while premium mode requires purchasing rolls to earn points redeemable for YGG tokens from a $10 million prize pool.

The browser-based board game surpassed 100,000 pre-registrations before launching exclusively on Abstract Chain, according to YGG.

For LOL Land, players can “earn YGG tokens and [you] can use them to claim NFTs,” Dizon explained.

The game draws directly from Dizon’s experience in casual games and his experience in Web3 gaming thereafter.

“Before getting into crypto and founding YGG, I was a game developer for a little bit over 20 years,” Dizon shared with Decrypt. “I was making casual games for much of my career.”

Degens over mass market

The publishing strategy deliberately targets crypto enthusiasts rather than attempting to onboard traditional gamers. Dizon argues this approach addresses an underserved market segment larger than hardcore Web3 gaming.

“If you look at people who are trading memecoins, minting NFTs, or trading on exchanges, these are people that you can consider to be possible players under the ‘Casual Degen’ label,” Dizon said.

Asked about how he thinks Web3 games could last, Dizon, who claims to prefer playing single-player RPGs like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, told Decrypt it’s a matter of perseverance.

“I do think that Web3 games can have a lasting impact on people,” he said. “It’s hard to make games in general. It’s even harder to make games that have new technology and figure out what the right format is for that technology, for people to use it.

Fatshark has revealed the next class for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, as part of today’s Warhammer Skulls event. The Adeptus Arbites – essentially Warhammer 40K’s version of space police – is getting some representation, bringing with them a trusty cyber mastiff companion.

You’ll be bale to play it yourself on June 23 across all platforms, available to buy for $11.99 or your regional equivilent. The class is customizable with over 80 talent nodes, which should allow for a bunch of player expression. It also comes with new weapons in the form of a shotgun, assault shielf and shotpistol, and the dominator maul.

You’ll also be able to tweak with the look and sound of the Arbites of course. It has three personalities to choose from, as well as six voice lines to make your own.

In addition, Darktide is getting a bit of a narrative overhaul. Right now, if you play the game, it can be a little tricky to get a steady narrative line given the fact you can kind of jump around the story through different matches. On June 23, alongside the new class, the game is getting a improved narrative experience. This comes in the form of a curated mission path that players can journey through, introudcing key characters and events in order.

The difficulty system is also getting tweaked! Players will now be able to unlock higher difficulties by demonstrating skill, rather than just levelling up. By completing a number of missions cleared at your current level, you cna steadily proceed to more challenging content.

Finally, starting today, a special event is coming to Darktide. Nurlge Totems will start popping up across different missions, and by destroying them players can make the mission a touch more challenging, but earn some extra prizes.

White Scars are lovable speed freaks who also has their fair share of father issues, as he drove his motorbike into the Webway for milk 10,000 years ago and never came back. Both cool!

Siege Mode is a standard 3v3 game mode like other operations you can play right now in game, though thats where the simularities end. In it, you’ll be able to fend off increasingly difficult waves of Tyranids and Chaos until you and your squad inevitably die. Think Gears of Wars’ Horde Mode for a close comparison, which it’s safe to say is a darn fun way to engage with 3rd person action shooters.

Space Marine 2 has grown into quite the treasure, huh? It was already dope when it launched last year, and since then has only been getting better thanks to various free updates and fanservicy cosmetic packs. New ATH Not That Important, Shiba Inu (SHIB) Growth Begins, Dogecoin’s (DOGE) Path to $0.30 Begins Again

Bitcoin has officially surpassed the $111,000 mark and entered new all-time-high territory. However, in spite of this technical milestone, the overall market reaction has been remarkably subdued. This recent surge feels more like a grind than an explosive move in contrast to the euphoria-fueled rally of 2021 or the parabolic runs of 2017. In terms of technical analysis, Bitcoin is still strongly rising. 

The 50-day EMA is now comfortably above the 200-day, confirming a golden cross. The breakout above the resistance level of $102,000 has held firm, and volume is increasing gradually. When you look more closely, though, you start to see indications of overextension. The price has moved far from short-term moving averages and the RSI is well into overbought territory at 77, indicating that a possible correction is imminent.

Even though the ATH breakout occurred, the lack of substantial capital inflow is more telling. In previous cycles, breaking an ATH usually resulted in a surge of institutional and retail purchases. This time, rather than fresh liquidity flooding the market, it appears to be more about existing capital rotating and shorts being squeezed. Bitcoin’s recent sharp increase was aided by $239 million in short liquidations, but if new buyers do not enter the market, that momentum may not last. 

The ATH is more psychological than market-defining in this situation. While it is a confirmation of the long-term bullish structure, it has not yet set off the type of rally driven by FOMO that we have witnessed in past cycles. Short-term upside might be constrained in the absence of that catalyst. 

Before the next leg, Bitcoin might need to cool off. It would not be shocking to see a correction toward the $101,000-$102,000 breakout zone, which might offer more solid support for a long-term upward move. The new ATH is more of a checkbox than a party until actual inflows make a comeback. 

Shiba inu revitalized

Following some tumultuous weeks, Shiba Inu is displaying signs of regaining strength. The meme-inspired asset has shown signs of a possible change in momentum by convincingly rebounding off the 100 EMA. Due to the subsequent uptick, SHIB has regained its position above the $0.0000150 mark, which is a short-term psychological threshold. This important support level held firm. More encouraging is the 26 EMA’s behavior, which is currently curling upward and closely following the price.

This is a technical indication that buyers are taking back control and that short-term sentiment is improving, and it frequently signals the start of a momentum expansion phase. If this pattern continues, SHIB might make a serious effort to take back the 200 EMA, which is currently serving as resistance close to the $0.000016 mark.

The return of the asset to a medium-term uptrend would be confirmed by a successful break above the 200 EMA. Traders ought to exercise caution, though, as a double top could form. If volume does not support further upside, the previous high at $0.000017 might serve as a cap, and a failure to break higher could cause a retracement back toward the 100 EMA.

The current bounce appears to be more of a technical relief move than a euphoric breakout, as volume is still low when compared to previous breakouts. However, gains could accelerate if SHIB is able to draw in enough buy-side pressure to break through the 200 EMA. 

Dogecoin falls back

As it traces a course back toward the crucial $0.30 level, Dogecoin is making yet another determined effort to regain its gains. DOGE has now decisively broken through the descending trendline, which usually marks the end of a correction phase and the start of a possible recovery rally following a period of consolidation and a steep retracement from prior highs. DOGE is heading toward a crucial test at $0.25, a level that has historically served as strong resistance and is currently trading close to $0.24.

A breakout with significant volume could push the rally to $0.28-$0.30, which could act as a structural and psychological ceiling. The configuration appears promising from a technical standpoint. A potential momentum expansion phase is indicated by the 26 EMA converging with the 50 and 100 EMAs. When accompanied by a distinct pattern breakout, as is the case with the falling wedge that DOGE has just exited, this alignment frequently signals the start of a stronger bullish move.

But traders should exercise caution. If DOGE is unable to break and hold above the $0.25 resistance, there is still a chance of a double top. An immediate retreat back toward support at the 100 EMA or around $0.21 may result from this. This most recent upswing has seen a steady increase in volume, which suggests that interest is returning but is not yet at levels that point to euphoric buying.

Warhammer 40,000’s space dwarfs will make their videogame debut in turn-based tactics sequel Mechanicus 2 this year

When Games Workshop first released sci-fi miniatures for Warhammer 40,000 in the 1980s the line included space dwarfs, also called squats, with a hairy biker aesthetic—like if the forgemasters of trad fantasy evolved into greasy spaceship mechanics. Never as popular as space elves or space orks, by the second edition of Warhammer 40,000 they were written out of the setting as a casualty of the tyranid invasion, and Warhammer players say old aspects of the lore that no longer apply have been “squatted” to this day.

The squats came back a few years ago, however, rebooted under the less insulting name of “the kin”, with their main force arrayed as the Leagues of Votann. The descendants of human mining fleets sent to the galactic core in ages past, generations of genetic adaptation with technology they call cloneskeins have turned them into, well, space dwarfs. But now they wear cool armor.

Given their relative unpopularity and how long they spent in the stomachs of the tyranids, the squats never showed up in any of the many Warhammer 40,000 videogames. That’ll change when Mechanicus 2 comes out later this year, though unfortunately they won’t be a playable faction.

As revealed in the gameplay trailer shown during the Warhammer Skulls event, Mechanicus 2 will depict three forces using turn-based tactics to fight over a planet called Hekateus IV. Two of those forces will be playable, the cybernetic tech-priests and robotic necrons, with the mercenary Leagues of Votann as a non-playable faction you’ll encounter in the field. Presumably we’ll have the option of allying with them or wiping them out, and either way we’ll get another amazing soundtrack of gothic monkstep to go with it.

Mechanicus 2 is coming to Steam and Epic this year. The original game is currently free to play on Steam until May 26.

Vapourware can end up being the stuff of legend, like Rockstar’s Agent, Star Wars 1313, or StarCraft: Ghost. Without ever seeing the light of day, these games never risked the possibility of being played and forgotten, and instead live on forever as the subjects of lengthy YouTube essays.

Peter Molyneux, formerly of the studios Bullfrog and Lionhead, and currently working on Masters of Albion at 22cans, has had a number of cancelled projects in his career. The original Xbox’s prehistoric game BC was axed around the time Fable became Lionhead’s priority, for example.

Still, Molyneux’s most notable lost game (or tech demo, depending on who you asked at the time) was arguably Project Milo.

Revealed alongside the Kinect device at E3 2009, which was then known as Project Natal, players would interact with a young male character called Milo using voice and gesture commands.

This unusual premise made the game a huge talking point. The project was revealed just as traditional game genre boundaries were starting to blur following the success of the Nintendo DS and Wii.

The actual game based on the tech demo was to be called Milo & Kate, with Molyneux demoing it in more detail at a TED presentation in 2010. Lionhead’s stylistic touches are obvious throughout the demo, like its tone, music, narration, and choice of story about a British family that’s recently moved to America.

Molyneux described the game at the time by saying, “most of it is just a trick; but it’s a trick that works”.

The game ultimately didn’t release, with some of its ideas rolled into Fable: The Journey on Xbox 360, which was not well-received. Still, the demo arguably did its job, putting Microsoft’s Kinect device at the centre of the cultural conversation for its reveal, a full 17 months before it was commercially available.

Fable: The Journey ended up being the final Lionhead game before the studio’s closure in 2016.

While the broad details (and many specifics, per a 2013 Polygon piece) of Project Milo’s demise are fairly well-known, it was undeniably exciting to hear Molyneux himself recall the project during Nordic Game 2025 in Malmö this week.

During the Q&A section of his fireside chat, one attendee asked about Milo, saying they believed that to this day, Molyneux had a vision for what it could’ve been.

“I’ll tell you exactly what happened,” Molyneux said. “Microsoft had [bought] us, we were owned by Microsoft, and they had…I’m going to say this, I might get in trouble…what I thought was a bit of a crazy idea. And that was to do gesture recognition as an input device, rather than a controller. They showed me this stuff, and Microsoft had this amazing research building. Incredible.

“It was run by this brilliant bloke called Alex Kipman. Makes me look boring and passionless – he had ten times more passion than I had. He had this demo of this device, and when he showed me this demo, it could see people’s faces. He said, ‘it can do voice recognition’, and it had a massive field-of-view so it could see this whole room.”

Molyneux then recalled his first reaction to the tech that would eventually become Kinect.

“He said, ‘what do you think?’, and I said, ‘well, firstly’ – when he did the demo, he was jumping all over the room – ‘I’m a gamer, I don’t want to play games standing up. That’s the first thing. It doesn’t appeal to me, I want to sit back, I want to smoke what I smoke, and I want to drink what I want to drink, and I don’t want to prance around like a twat’.

“I said, ‘I’ll go away and I’ll create a demo of [how we should use] the technology you showed me.’

“Again, I go back to what I want the player to feel,” Molyneux continued. “Now, at that time, my son, Lucas, was about seven years old. And, anyone who’s a parent will probably experience this: there was this moment where you realise you’re crafting, inspiring, a human being. Wouldn’t it be an incredible thing to create a game around that feeling?”

Molyneux’s phone then started ringing during the panel, and he paused to turn it off before continuing.

“Wouldn’t it be incredible to create an experience around that? About inspiring, in Milo’s case, a boy. That was contentious in itself, because of course, lots of people go to the dark side with that [idea].

Molyneux then said staff at Lionhead started working on the demo, collaborating with an unnamed technology company on Project Milo’s voice recognition.

“We had all sorts of experiences, like you could hand things to Milo in the game world and he would take them. They really worked well.”

Molyneux then said the team “cheated in a big way about how you could talk to Milo”, recalling that his intention was to have players sit back on the sofa and “just experience things with this game character”.

“Even though voice recognition now is almost a solved problem, back in those days we solved the problem by cheating,” Molyneux said.

“So, when Milo asked you the player a question, we had set that question up to different points, so he knew what sort of answer he’d give.”

At this point, Molyneux explained how the changing specs of the Kinect device in the run up to launch impacted the potential of Project Milo.

“Unfortunately, as we were developing Milo, so the Kinect device was being developed. And they realised that the device that Alex Kipman first showed off would cost $5,000 for consumers to buy.

“So they cost-reduced that device down to such a point, where the field-of-view…I think it was a minuscule field-of-view. In other words, it could only just see what’s straight in front of you.”

Ultimately, the demise of Project Milo came down to Microsoft’s changing priorities with the Kinect device, which was soon synonymous with the kinds of casual games that exploded in popularity on the Wii.

“Then, the death blow of Milo, which still breaks my heart to this day, was that it was decided that Kinect shouldn’t be a gaming device: it should be a party device. You should play a sports game with it, or dancing games with it. So, it just didn’t fit into the Microsoft portfolio, and unfortunately the project was cancelled.”

“No one ever saw the complete experience,” Molyneux continued. “We didn’t finish the experience. But it was a magical thing. What was so magical about it: it wasn’t about heroes and aliens coming down, there wasn’t this ‘end of the world’ narrative scenario.”

“It was just experiencing what it’s like to hang out with someone that loves you.”

Just hours before President Donald Trump’s high-profile gala for holders of his memecoin, Democratic lawmakers moved to curb what they call rising “crypto corruption” in Washington.

Led by Rep. Maxine Waters, 15 House Democrats introduced the “Stop Trading, Retention, and Unfair Market Payoffs in Crypto Act of 2025.” 

The bill would prohibit the president, vice president, members of Congress, and their immediate families from owning, promoting, or profiting from digital assets while in office. 

Lawmakers would also be barred from holding crypto assets in ways that allow them to exert unilateral control over the tokens.

“Trump’s crypto con is not just a scam to target investors,” Waters said in a statement. “It’s also a dangerous backdoor for selling influence over American policies to the highest foreign bidder.”

The legislation arrives amid a wave of criticism surrounding Trump’s deepening ties to crypto. The president and his wife, Melania, recently launched personal memecoins. 

Trump’s family has also backed a stablecoin through the crypto firm World Liberty Financial, and his sons are linked to a Bitcoin mining venture. 

Blockchain records indicate that Justin Sun, founder of Tron and a Chinese national, is one of the largest holders of TRUMP (TRUMP) — the memecoin that serves as a ticket to Thursday night’s dinner.

Protests outside the gala

The exclusive gala, hosted at Trump’s golf club in Virginia, invites the top 220 $TRUMP holders — some of whom spent between $55,000 and nearly $38 million in tokens to secure an invitation. 

Critics, including Sen. Richard Blumenthal, accuse Trump of “auctioning” access to the White House and potentially violating the Constitution’s ban on foreign gifts.

Protests are happening outside the event. Senators Chris Murphy, Elizabeth Warren, and Jeff Merkley, along with Rep. Sam Liccardo and advocacy groups, are calling out Donald Trump’s upcoming “meme coin” fundraising dinner as a threat to national security and a potential corruption risk, according to a note shared with crypto.news.

At a press conference today, the group demanded the release of attendee names and any promised favors. Murphy also promoted his recently introduced MEME Act, aimed at curbing digital asset profiteering by public officials.

The Six One Indie Showcase had too many cool games, so here’s a few I think look neat

The Six One Indie Showcase is a bit of a new kid on the block when it comes to video game presentations, but it’s certainly working hard to justify itself. Early today the latest showcase was held showing off a huge range of indies, 48 in total, some of them being brand new reveals, others smaller showcases.


There’s honestly too many showcases around these days, to see a show with a lot of games that made me go “oh I’m going to put that on my wishlist” is a treat. So, here’s just a few I think you should check out, because I’m just one freelancer on the night shift and I can’t do them all, but I’d like you to take a look anyway.


First up was a proper reveal of Truth Scrapper, the next games from the dev behind In Stars and Time. This one’s a scrapbooking visual novel where your memories reset every day, but there’s a mystery that you need to solve. Did I mention there’s toxic lesbians? Instant winner.

I’ve had my eye on Artis Impact for a little while now, an incredibly stylish pixelart turn-based RPG set in a world overrun by AI. Sounds a bit too relatable right now, but I’m still in.

1000 Deaths is a “gravity-bending 3D platformer where your choices matter”, and also a game that looks like graphics card box art from the ’90s and 2000s. To be clear, this is the highest of compliments I can hand out.

Okay, this one isn’t a game per se, but it does also involve the number 1000. Last year’s seminal 1000xRESIST is getting a ridiculously gorgeous looking vinyl set that comes in two versions – one with one set of sisters, one with another. The recent fanzine for the game (which you can download for free on itch.io) is getting a physical edition too!

Then we’ve got Forbidden Solitaire, a “card-slashing horror game about unearthing the contents of a cryptic 1995 CD-ROM that should have never existed.” This one’s for the card game weirdos (I am card game weirdos).

The Six One Indie Showcase really did just have what looked like banger after banger, it’ll be worth your time to go and watch the full thing and get wishlisting anything else that catches your eye.
