UK Regulator Ramps Up Crypto Approvals As Applications Drop

by admin September 22, 2025

In brief

  • The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority has reduced application process times for crypto service providers by 69% since 2022/23.
  • Total applications have declined over the past couple of years, as firms wait and see how UK crypto regulation develops.
  • Successful applications have also declined, although fewer firms are withdrawing applications.

The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority has reduced the time it takes to approve crypto registration applications by 69% since 2023, although data from the regulator also show that there has been a 43.5% decline in applications over the past two years.

The FCA has released the data following a freedom of information request from London-based international law firm Reed Smith, which sought clarification on the number of applications sent by cryptoasset service providers (such as exchanges) since the 22/23 financial year.

The data reveal that successful applications have declined in consecutive years, from eight in 22/23 to six in 23/24 and then three in 24/25.

This coincides with a decline in the total number of applications received by the UK’s financial regulator, declining from 46 in 22/23 to 28 in 23/24 and then 26 in 24/25.

These figures also mean that the FCA’s approval rate has declined over this period, from 17.4% in 22/23 to 11.5% in 24/25.

Speeding up applications

However, the data also show that the regulator is speeding up its application process, following an approach in previous that had resulted in an exodus of cryptocurrency firms.

Back in the 22/23 financial year, the FCA had taken an average of 511 days to approve an application, whereas the corresponding figure for 24/25 was 158 days.

This acceleration is being welcomed by representatives of the UK cryptocurrency industry, with a spokesperson for CryptoUK telling Decrypt that the shift will boost confidence among crypto-related businesses.

“CryptoUK and its 200 members continue to work closely with the regulator, the government and other policymakers,” the spokesperson said. They added that, “The industry realises how important it is for the FCA to meet its regulatory roadmap and digital asset businesses are keen for a full legal framework to be in place.”

Another positive development is that fewer firms are now withdrawing applications each year, with this figure having dropped from 70 in 22/23 to 15 in 24/25.

This is received as good news by Simon Jennings, the Executive Director of the UK Cryptoasset Business Council, who told Decrypt that progress has definitely been made.

“The FCA itself has built up knowledge and resources internally, which naturally speeds things up,” he said. “And with its new secondary objective on growth and international competitiveness starting to filter through, the system feels a little less clogged than it used to.”

Fewer firms applying

On the other hand, Jennings acknowledged the fact that fewer firms applied last year, which he links to a lingering perception of long timelines and uncertainty.

“Even if things are improving under the surface, there is still a sense, particularly amongst SMEs in the market, that the process is cumbersome and tilted against them,” he added.

For Reed Smith, the decline in applications may be related to the UK Government’s plans to introduce “robust” new legislation covering cryptocurrencies, with some firms potentially “pausing to take stock.”

“Firms obtaining cryptoasset firm registration will likely need to upgrade to full FCA authorisation once that regime has been extended to cryptoassets,” said Brett Hillis, Partner at Reed Smith. He noted that some firms may be delaying efforts to secure a full UK setup “to avoid having to go through two FCA application processes, one after the other, even if registering banks some credit for when the time comes to apply for full authorisation.”

Last week, the FCA launched a consultation on a new proposal to set minimum standards for crypto firms, in a bid to “develop a sustainable and competitive crypto sector” and recover ground lost to other jurisdictions.

To combat the perception of long wait times, Jennings urged the FCA to develop its registration regime further, making it more transparent and well-resourced for firms, so that they “feel guided” through the process.

“We can’t ignore the global picture: regulators from MAS to VARA are actively courting firms, rolling out the red carpet to get them to relocate,” he explained. “If the UK wants to lead, we need to be alive to that competition.”

Central Banks Could Hold Bitcoin Like Gold by 2030: Deutsche Bank

by admin September 22, 2025

In a recent report, Deutsche Bank, one of the biggest investment banks in the world, gave a prediction that the central banks could soon start holding Bitcoin just like they hold gold, and this might happen by the year 2030.

The research has become a topic of discussion among crypto investors, after Matthew Sigel, head of digital asset research at VanEck, pointed it out in public, and it picked up interest because this would be the first time central banks use Bitcoin as part of their official reserves.

Matthew Sigel shares the research on X | Source: X

Bitcoin Will Stand Beside Gold, Not Replace It

The bank explained that Bitcoin will not fight Gold for position but will instead stand beside it. Moreover, both assets are seen as “safe” places to keep value during hard times in the economy. The report said that the central banks may slowly add more Bitcoin and gold into their reserves.

“So long as we are human, Bitcoin and other alternative assets will likely continue to compete for our attention.” Deutsche Bank wrote.

One reason behind this idea is due to Bitcoin’s limited supply. Out of its maximum cap of 21 million coins, nearly 19.92 million are already in circulation, which means about 95% is already unlocked. The final 5% will only be mined over the next 115 years, which would make the cryptocurrency scarce as time goes on.

With its current market cap standing at $2.2 trillion, the bank said scarcity and its reputation as a hedge against inflation could drive governments to include it in their reserves.

Lessons from Gold’s Past

The report also compared Bitcoin to gold’s early history. At an early stage, Gold was not always trusted, it faced doubts from investors and saw huge drops in its price.

It even went through a 60% price fall between 1980 and 2001 before becoming one of the most important assets in the world. Today, the asset is worth more than $20 trillion.

Deutsche Bank believes Bitcoin is following a similar path, with regulation, and liquidity helping it mature. The bank also stressed that Bitcoin’s volatility will ease as adoption grows, just like gold became more stable over time.

The research further pointed out that both assets are hitting record highs. In 2025, gold climbed to $3,703 per ounce, while Bitcoin reached $123,500 per coin. The bank said this thanks to the weakness in the dollar, as well as doubts about the independence of the US Federal Reserve.

However, Deutsche Bank notes that Bitcoin and gold will not replace the US dollar. Instead, the dollar will stay the main reserve, while gold and Bitcoin act as extra safe assets.

Netflix Is Rushing Out ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Costumes in Time for Halloween

by admin September 22, 2025

Netflix has listened to the fans and parents of fans eager to dress up as KPop Demon Hunters‘ Mira, Rumi, or Zoey this spooky season by hastening a collab with Spirit Halloween. In a release, Spirit Halloween, which already works closely with the streamer on official Stranger Things and Squid Game character looks and decor, has announced that it will have KPop Demon Hunters adult and kid costumes come October.

Kids’ costumes will hit stores early October, while grown-ups will have to wait until mid-month, which is hitting it real close to party weekends. But hey, at the very least these fits can come in handy for screenings and fan get-togethers.

The cosplay-style costumes and wigs depict Huntr/x’s looks from the film’s iconic opening number, “Takedown.” Here’s a look at the details:

The costumes start at $59.99 for the kids’ sizes and $69.99 for adults, but it’s interesting to note that only the Rumi wig is getting released as a separate piece from the costume (at $26.99); Mira and Zoey can be styled with wigs already part of Spirit’s selection or for you to DIY on your own hair.

There’s no word yet on Saja Boys band costumes or a Derpy onesie (which we hope comes with a little magnetic bird), but with the phenomenon just getting started, there’s got to be more on the way for the fans as Netflix seeks to capitalize on the huge success of the film with plans that go beyond merch into sequels, spinoffs, and more.

Sign up for the Spirit Halloween x Kpop Demon Hunters pre-order drop here.

Venu To Launch Blockchain Ticketing Platform In 2026

VENU To Launch Blockchain Ticketing Platform in 2026

by admin September 22, 2025

Entertainment company VENU has announced its intention to launch a blockchain-based ticketing platform in early 2026. The new system aims to integrate physical venues with digital technology to enhance fan engagement and address issues like ticket scalping.

Founder and CEO J.W. Roth said the move “should significantly increase overall ticket sales while inviting a much larger audience to enjoy unique and invaluable live experiences.”

As per the announcement, the rollout comes as VENU accelerates a $1.3 billion construction pipeline that already shows strong asset growth. The company believes blockchain adoption could supercharge this trajectory and scale ticket revenue toward $1 billion in the near term.

Moreover, Roth envisions $2 billion in annual ticket sales by 2030 across 40 venues, supported by amphitheaters, indoor complexes, and new digital engagement layers.

Strategy and Mechanics

According to VENU, their digital ecosystem is set to extend into homes, cars, and mobile devices. The firm is teaming up with leaders in the crypto industry to make this vision a reality.

Fans can earn $VENU tokens or NFTs by going to events and engaging online. These rewards can unlock VIP perks, better seats, and even partial ownership of FireSuites, which are projected to generate $200 million in sales by 2025.

The platform will also introduce “soft ticketing,” where tickets are digital NFTs that fans can upgrade, transfer, or share. Built-in smart contracts will stop scalping and make sure VENU gets its royalties right away when tickets are resold. This approach reduces reliance on Ticketmaster’s high fees and creates new revenue opportunities.

Roth emphasized: “VENU intends to own the narrative around digital engagement with fans, dramatically improving live-streamed entertainment while unlocking totally new experiences for fan ownership.”

Market and Revenue Impact

The live events industry is projected to soar from $466 billion in 2025 to $652 billion by 2032. Digital ticketing is already doing well, accounting for 40% of sales, which makes blockchain a perfect fit for the future.

Besides as part of key features, VENU’s innovative hybrid model incorporates AR and VR overlays on livestreams, boosting fan engagement and ownership.

Secondary markets will continue to bring in royalties, and blockchain ticketing will weigh in for 25% of VENU’s entire sales by 2028.

VENU is combining real-world venues with blockchain technology to change how tickets are sold and create lasting growth in live entertainment.

As of Writing, Venu Holding Corporation (VENU) shares were trading at $12.69, reflecting a 0.94% decline for the day, according to Yahoo Finance.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Hardcover Strategy Guide Is Steeply Discounted

by admin September 22, 2025

Metaphor: ReFantazio’s recently released guidebook is on sale for its lowest price yet thanks to an Amazon coupon deal. Normally $55, Metaphor: ReFantazio’s official strategy guide is on sale for $37.79. Amazon’s store page shows $47.24, but you’ll save an extra $9.45 at checkout if you click the coupon box. The bonus 20% price cut expires September 29 and may not be available for all customers. If you don’t see the coupon box on the listing, unfortunately the price is $47.24. Prior to this deal, the all-time low price was $45.

The strategy guide for Atlus’ critically acclaimed 2024 role-playing game was published by Future Press on April 22.

$37.79 (was $55) with coupon

Metaphor: ReFantazio’s massive 592-page guide sounds like both a cool collectible for Atlus fans and a comprehensive compendium of everything you could possibly want to know about the game.

Along with a complete walkthrough designed so that you see and do everything, the guidebook has multiple catalogs of useful information to pore over:

  • Archetype Encyclopedia: An exhaustive section covering all skills, Synthesis attacks, and inheritance options.
  • Equipment catalog: All items and equipment are included in a section designed to be used as a quick reference sheet.
  • Bestiary: Every enemy in the game is chronicled with in-depth stats, including strengths and weaknesses, item drop rates, and other pertinent details.
  • Dialogue trees: All of the choice-based dialogue and actions made in the game are outlined to help you form bonds with characters based on your personal preferences.
  • Appendices: For those who want true 100% completion, this section contains the full Memorandum, has New Game+ details, an achievements and trophies guide, and a build guide to help you be as prepared as possible for Metaphor’s toughest challenges.

It also comes with a poster-sized map of Euchronia that’s an exact replica of the in-game map.

More Future Press Guidebooks

If you’re interested in Metaphor’s strategy guide, you may want to pick it up sooner rather than later. Future Press is also the publisher of Elden Ring’s Books of Knowledge, a three-part guidebook series that has often been difficult to find in stock, especially the first two volumes. An Elden Ring Nightreign strategy guide was originally slated to release this month, but it has been pushed back to February 27, 2026.

Future also re-released its popular Bloodborne guides last October as one 744-page tome covering the base game and DLC. In April of last year, the Dark Souls Trilogy Compendium was reprinted to celebrate Future’s 25th anniversary. Unfortunately, this one is currently sold out at major retailers, but the Bloodborne guide is still available, and it also has a massive coupon discount that drops the price to $40 (was $60).

Rounding out the From Software game guidebooks is the Armored Core 6 Pilot’s Manual–a very useful resource for the latest Armored Core game, which is arguably more complex than any Souls game or Elden Ring. The Pilot’s Manual had been sold out for months, but it’s back in stock alongside the Elden Ring restocks.

Future Press was also responsible for the Animal Crossing: New Horizon’s Official Complete Guide, which released in 2023 and clocks in at 688 pages.

Though not published by Future, it’s worth mentioning that there’s another very exciting gaming book launching October 28. Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective is available to preorder for $46.49 (was $50) at Amazon. This hardcover book will be published by Piggyback, the team behind the superb Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom guides–which are available for great discounts right now.

The Beast Is Being Ruined By An Annoying Rain Bug

The Beast Is Being Ruined By An Annoying Rain Bug

by admin September 22, 2025

I’m really enjoying Dying Light: The Beast, the latest open-world zombie RPG from Techland. However, when it starts to rain in The Beast, the game starts to become a hard-to-play mess that is ruining what is otherwise a damn fine experience. Thankfully, the devs are aware and are working on a patch.

Originally planned to be a big DLC expansion for 2022’s Dying Light 2, Techland eventually realized it was big enough to be its own standalone game. And after playing about 16 hours of the zombie RPG–which is out now on consoles and sees the return of OG protagonist Kyle Crane–I think it might end up being one of my favorite games of 2025. Techland has once again successfully blended horror, parkour, and melee-focused action into something great. Setting the whole game in the gorgeous Swiss Alps also doesn’t hurt. But apparently, in the Alps, they have much more powerful rainstorms than over here.

Last night, while in the middle of a quest to grab some special gas that attracts super zombies, it started to rain. “No big deal,” I thought to myself, unaware of what I was about to experience. When I reached a large refinery containing a secret lab where the gas was located, I fought my way in and discovered that uh, the rain was falling through the building. And making things worse, the game’s lighting tech seemed (understandably) unprepared for such an event to occur, and it became very dark and incredibly hard to see where I was going. I pressed on and discovered the super rain also appeared in cutscenes.

Once I got a big can of the super gas, I took it to a nearby truck and popped it in the back to more easily get it to my destination. Weirdly, the rain outside was gone. Props still looked wet, and I could hear the rain falling, yet nothing was falling from the sky. When I got in the truck I discovered that, as far as the game was concerned, it wasn’t raining anymore, which was awkward as my windshield was still being drenched in water, but the wipers wouldn’t work. The only way I could get the wipers to function was to run over zombies and get enough blood on the glass to trigger them. Eventually, I just drove backwards, as the truck’s rear window wasn’t covered in rain.

Techland has a fix incoming for Dying Light‘s indoor rain

After winning a boss fight and returning to a safe zone to complete the quest, I decided to reset the game, which did put a stop to the strange weather. But now I fear the rain’s return. Thankfully, Techland is working on a patch that it plans to push out very soon.

“We’re aware that you’re experiencing issues with Indoor Rain and the Disturbed Day/Night Cycle, and fixing them is our top priority,” said Techland in an update posted to Steam over the weekend. “We already have a fix prepared, but because this bug only appears in rare situations, it takes a lot of extra testing. We’ll continue these tests over the weekend and most of Monday, and if no new occurrences of this issue appear, we’ll release the hotfix to players right away on PC. This is our goal. If, however, we still spot any occurrences of the bug, we might need to go back, adjust the fix, and then re-test it again.”

So that’s good news. But even after the patch, I’ll still be nervous that the super rain will return. Perhaps it’s the same horrible rain we dealt with years ago in the remastered version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas? Where will this annoying rain appear next? Is any game safe? We’ll keep you updated on the rain situation as it continues.

Update: 9/22/2025, 12:55 p.m. ET: Just a few moments after posting this, Techland pushed out the rain-fixing patch on PC. The developer says the update is coming to consoles “soon.”

PayPal Ventures Invests in Stable to Expand PYUSD Reach

by admin September 22, 2025

PayPal Ventures has invested in Stable to bring PayPal USD PYUSD$0.9998 to Stablechain, aiming to expand its distribution and make global payments faster and cheaper, according to a blog post Monday.

Stable’s blockchain, built for stablecoin transactions with sub-second finality and low fees, is designed to fix the infrastructure issues that have slowed adoption, the company said.

The size of the investment was not disclosed.

Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies whose value is tied to another asset, such as the U.S. dollar or gold. They play a major role in cryptocurrency markets, providing among other things a payment infrastructure, and are also used to transfer money internationally.

Tether’s USDT is the world’s largest stablecoin, followed by Circle’s (CRCL) USDC.

Both companies said the move will unlock new commerce use cases, particularly in emerging markets where dollar-based payments have the biggest impact.

With PYUSD now live on Stablechain, the partnership marks a step toward taking stablecoins beyond crypto-native use and into everyday payments and financial products, Stable said.

$180 Billion XRP Faces Its Biggest Upgrade Yet With New Ripple DeFi Roadmap

by admin September 22, 2025

Ripple’s new roadmap makes it clear that XRP, already valued at $180 billion, is being promoted as an institutional DeFi asset at a time when the sector is demonstrating its true size: $161.8 billion is locked in protocols, $292.8 billion in stablecoins, $15.6 billion is traded daily on DEXes and there is $23 billion in perpetuals volume, according to DefiLlama.

The message is clear: XRPL is evolving beyond payments to encompass the compliance, credit and tokenized markets, where billions are already changing hands daily.

1/ Institutional DeFi is here and the XRP Ledger has solidified its position as the trusted open source settlement layer for global institutions.

The next phase of the roadmap starts now. Explore it below and read the full blog for details 🧵⬇️ https://t.co/YLQ9Po8xMQ

— RippleX (@RippleXDev) September 22, 2025

Upgrades are now live, with on-chain proof of regulatory status, freeze controls for issuers and simulation tools for reducing errors. These features address regulators’ concerns, contributing to the growth of XRPL’s stablecoin, which recently surpassed $1 billion in a single month, and its position in the top 10 real-world asset chains, valued at $15.6 billion in DeFi. XRP’s role as a settlement asset within this system continues to expand.

Source: DefiLlama

The bigger shift will come with version 3.0. A protocol-level lending system will pool liquidity and issue loans natively under KYC/AML standards, creating cheaper institutional credit and direct yield opportunities. The Multi-Purpose Token standard, due in October, will allow bonds and structured products to be issued and traded directly on XRPL.

Bottom line

These are not side experiments but are ways of pulling regulated money into markets where XRP is both the collateral and the liquidity rail.

Privacy is next. Zero-knowledge proofs are being developed to enable institutions to transact and collateralize positions without revealing details while still passing audits.

In a market where ETFs are pulling in inflows of $270 million in a single day and stablecoins are approaching $300 billion, Ripple’s plan signals that XRP is not just surviving but is being positioned to sit at the heart of the largest flows in digital finance.

How to Watch ‘Survivor’: Stream Season 49 Without Cable

Celebrating a milestone 25 years on air, Survivor returns to screens for a 49th season this month, with an all-new group of players arriving on the beaches of Fiji in the hope of winning a cool million dollars.

Ranging in ages from 25 to 52, this season’s diverse cast of 18 hopefuls set to face testing trials for rewards and immunity from elimination includes a NASA rocket scientist, a former Marvel executive, a correctional officer and a touring rock star.

Aside from the huge prize money, there’s an additional incentive for contenders this time out, with two players from this season set to return in Survivor 50. The landmark 50th season is set to be comprised entirely of returning contestants.

Adding further drama to the proceedings is the fact that two of this season’s contestants were last-minute replacements, brought in after other players were dropped shortly before filming for breaking the show’s strict rule against pre-competition contact.

How to Watch Survivor Season 49

The 49th season of Survivor premieres on CBS on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The event will stream live for those with a Paramount Plus Premium subscription, and viewers with the Paramount Plus Essential plan can watch the next day on the platform.

Cord-cutters also have a number of alternative options for watching the show. YouTube TV carries CBS and comes with a free trial for new customers, while Hulu Plus Live TV also carries the network.

With Paramount Plus, you have two plans to choose from: Paramount Plus Essential, which costs $8 a month and has ads, and Paramount Plus Premium (formerly Paramount Plus with Showtime), which costs $13 a month and is mostly ad-free — you’ll see commercials when viewing live TV. If you want to watch Survivor Season 49 as episodes are broadcast without cable, perhaps YouTube TV would be the right choice for you. The live TV streamer is $83 a month and offers, as our review of the service states, “the best channel selection you’ll find.”

Hulu Plus Live TV subscribers get access to CBS and will be able to watch Survivor Season 49 as it’s broadcast, or on-demand the following day. Hulu Plus Live TV costs $83 a month for the base tier, and comes with a three-day free trial and access to Disney Plus and ESPN Plus. $12 more a month for the Premium plan will get you the same, but ad-free Disney Plus and on-demand Hulu. Check out our Hulu Plus Live TV review for more info.
