AI Experts Urgently Call on Governments to Think About Maybe Doing Something

by admin September 22, 2025

Everyone seems to recognize the fact that artificial intelligence is a rapidly developing and emerging technology that has the potential for immense harm if operated without safeguards, but basically no one (except for the European Union, sort of) can agree on how to regulate it. So, instead of trying to set up a clear and narrow path for how we will allow AI to operate, experts in the field have opted for a new approach: how about we just figure out what extreme examples we all think are bad and just agree to that?

On Monday, a group of politicians, scientists, and academics took to the United Nations General Assembly to announce the Global Call for AI Red Lines, a plea for the governments of the world to come together and agree on the broadest of guardrails to prevent “universally unacceptable risks” that could result from the deployment of AI. The goal of the group is to get these red lines established by the end of 2026.

The proposal has amassed more than 200 signatures thus far from industry experts, political leaders, and Nobel Prize winners. The former President of Ireland, Mary Robinson, and the former President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, are on board, as are Nobel winners Stephen Fry and Yuval Noah Harari. Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio, two of the three men commonly referred to as the “Godfathers of AI” due to their foundational work in the space, also added their names to the list.

Now, what are those red lines? Well, that’s still up to governments to decide. The call doesn’t include specific policy prescriptions or recommendations, though it does call out a couple of examples of what could be a red line. Prohibiting the launch of nuclear weapons or use in mass surveillance efforts would be a potential red line for AI uses, the group says, while prohibiting the creation of AI that cannot be terminated by human override would be a possible red line for AI behavior. But they’re very clear: don’t set these in stone, they’re just examples, you can make your own rules.

The only thing the group offers concretely is that any global agreement should be built on three pillars: “a clear list of prohibitions; robust, auditable verification mechanisms; and the appointment of an independent body established by the Parties to oversee implementation.”

The details, though, are for governments to agree to. And that’s kinda the hard part. The call recommends that countries host some summits and working groups to figure this all out, but there are surely many competing motives at play in those conversations.

The United States, for instance, has already committed to not allowing AI to control nuclear weapons (an agreement made under the Biden administration, so lord knows if that is still in play). But recent reports indicated that parts of the Trump administration’s intelligence community have already gotten annoyed by the fact that some AI companies won’t let them use their tools for domestic surveillance efforts. So would America get on board for such a proposal? Maybe we’ll find out by the end of 2026… if we make it that long.

Perfect Dark reboot leak: fresh info suggests studio saw gap in the market with Metal Gear Solid and Bond absent

by admin September 22, 2025

The now-cancelled Perfect Dark reboot had an “eco sci-fi” aesthetic, an Adrenaline System, and may have been released episodically.

That’s according to internal documentation from a former developer on the project at The Initiative shared with mp1st, revealing new artwork and gameplay details.

The document highlighted an opportunity to capitalise on the secret agent genre, due to the absence of Metal Gear Solid and James Bond 007 during development. Ironically enough, both franchises have since returned.

Perfect Dark – Gameplay Reveal – Xbox Games Showcase 2024Watch on YouTube

This may somewhat point to why Perfect Dark was ultimately cancelled – perhaps this reboot of the N64 classic from Rare wasn’t able to differentiate itself enough.

Still, this newly unearthed documentation – which dates back to a period close to the game’s cancellation this year – hints as to what players could have expected. The creative vision for the reboot aimed to reimagine the franchise while retaining the core DNA of the N64 original, with the HBO series Westworld providing inspiration for giving a classic property fresh themes and concepts.

While several systems are briefly mentioned, only the Adrenaline System is detailed. This would’ve been a resource regenerated over time to provide various abilities like healing and increasing damage dealt, as well as slowing time to aim with precision. Killing multiple enemies in quick succession would have extended this effect.

Until April of this year, the studio was working on a vertical slice (a playable proof-of-concept) that belonged to “Season 1”, suggesting the game would have been released episodically.

Perfect Dark was properly revealed at last year’s Xbox Games Showcase, with in-game footage of protagonist Joanna Dark exploring a futuristic Cairo (above). Later, reports suggested this gameplay was fake, though a designer on the game responded it was in-engine despite “some fake stuff in it”.

The new documentation includes further artwork for the game, including an alternate design for Joanna, as well as various futuristic environments to show off its “eco sci-fi” aesthetic.

Perfect Dark was cancelled back in July, following layoffs across Microsoft. Rare’s Everwild was also cancelled.

Helius buys $167m in Solana amid corporate treasury shift

by admin September 22, 2025

Helius Medical Technologies has joined an exclusive club. Its acquisition of 760,190 SOL, worth $167 million, places the Pantera-backed firm among the largest public-company holders of the asset, signaling its aggressive shift in treasury strategy.

Summary

  • Helius Medical acquired 760,190 SOL worth $167 million, making it one of the largest public holders of the token.
  • The purchase follows a $500 million raise led by Pantera and Summer Capital, with plans to scale holdings and explore staking.

According to a press release dated September 22, the neurotech company has initiated its digital asset treasury strategy with the purchase of over 760,190 Solana (SOL) at an average cost basis of $231 per token.

The move, guided by Pantera Capital’s Cosmo Jiang, who serves as a board observer, effectively redeploys a significant portion of the capital from a recent $500 million raise. Notably, Helius retains a substantial war chest of more than $335 million in cash, potentially earmarked for further SOL purchases.

“We are excited to embark on our SOL accumulation plan in an efficient manner. The initial accumulation at a lower cost basis than recent market prices, while still retaining the large majority of its capital raised for more opportunistic purchases, showcases how laser focused the team is on maximizing shareholder value by having market awareness and being responsible stewards of capital,” Jiang said.

From neurotech to Solana treasury company

Helius first outlined its digital asset treasury strategy earlier this month when it raised $500 million in a deal led by Pantera Capital and Summer Capital. That raise preceded a 250% surge in HSDT shares on September 12, a sign that investors saw the pivot as more than a passing experiment.

The September 22 announcement confirms that Solana will anchor the company’s treasury approach, with plans to scale the position over the next 12 to 24 months while exploring staking and DeFi opportunities under what the firm describes as a conservative risk framework.

Helius now occupies a notable position in a rapidly emerging cohort of public companies betting on Solana. Data from CoinGecko tracks nine entities holding a combined 13.4 million SOL, valued at approximately $2.95 billion.

While Helius’s $167 million stake is significant, it places the company behind the current leader, Forward Industries, which holds 6.8 million SOL. Other major holders include DeFi Development Corp. (2.09 million SOL), Upexi (2.01 million SOL), and Sharps Technology (2 million SOL), illustrating a clear trend of corporate capital flowing into the network.

Helius (HSDT) slipped 18% following the Sept. 22 announcement.

Roblox appoints Vlad Loktev as chief creator ecosystem officer to “strengthen relationships with the creator community”

by admin September 22, 2025

Roblox has appointed Vlad Loktev as chief creator ecosystem officer within its creator division.

Lotev will start on September 29 and lead creator success efforts, including “building an integrated suite of development tools, developer relations, as well as platform events, strengthening Roblox’s relationship with the creator community.”

“As Roblox tracks towards its goal of 10% of all gaming content revenue flowing through the Roblox ecosystem and being distributed within our community of creators, Vlad will play a key role in supporting the community making it all possible,” the company said.

“The energy and potential of our creator community has never been more powerful. Roblox recently broke records last month with more than 45 million concurrent users playing games like Grow a Garden, Steal a Brainrot (which has now surpassed the world record for most concurrent users in a single game with 24.2M CCU), and Dress to Impress.”

Earlier this month, Roblox announced a “suite of innovations” across AI and creator monetization, and revealed that over the last year, creators earned over $1 billion through the DevEx program.

At the recent Roblox Developers Conference, the company laid out a number of new initiatives, including plans to boost the Roblox Developer Exchange (DevEx) rate for all creators by 8.5%, explaining that “now, 100,000 earned Robux will equal $380, rather than $350 when converted to cash.”

mXRP Sparks ‘Money Glitch’ Hype

by admin September 22, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

Axelar used the XRP Seoul 2025 stage on September 21 to tease what promoters framed as an “infinite buying power” flywheel for XRP, centered on a new yield-bearing token called mXRP that is designed to become a structural, programmatic buyer of the underlying asset. The pitch—splashed across slides with “The Infinite Money Glitch” tagline—sketched a closed-loop system: minting mXRP would drive XRP purchases, feed auto-compounding strategies, deepen liquidity on XRPL, and attract more DeFi integrations and capital to the network.

In the run-up to the event, Axelar signaled the direction of travel: “A new yield-bearing XRP product is launching, powered by Axelar and the leading EU-regulated tokenization platform. If you are a large holder of XRP, complete the form below to express interest,” the project posted on September 10. On Saturday, the DeFi Business Development (BD) Lead at Axelar Leo Wu summarized the stage message more bluntly: “gmXRP @axelar + @MidasRWA — Infinite buying power for XRP,” alongside photos of the slide deck.

XRP Seoul 2025 slide | Source: X @DYOR_WAGMI

Early reactions inside the XRP community homed in on the promised carry. “mXRP will likely be the biggest catalyst this quarter to drive significant adoption and activity on XRPL. 10% APY on XRP through DeFi yield and by just holding mXRP is massive,” wrote Panos Mekras (co-founder & CEO at Anodos Labs) via X.

He added that an XRP/mXRP liquidity pool could quickly dominate XRPL volumes and that LPs would “virtually have zero risk and near-zero impermanent loss,” while earning from fees and yield. While those expectations are promotional and unproven, they capture the tenor of sentiment around the launch.

What mXRP Is—And How Axelar And Midas Fit

Based on materials shared publicly, mXRP is presented as a liquid, yield-bearing representation of deposited XRP. Users would deposit XRP and receive mXRP; the mXRP’s value accretes from the strategies run on the pooled collateral.

Event notes circulating on X attribute the product structuring to Midas (a European tokenization platform) and the cross-chain plumbing to Axelar, with a Korean digital-asset manager responsible for operating strategies on the back end. The slide language emphasizes “advanced strategies and auto-compounding,” and frames mXRP as a “perpetual buyer of XRP” that bolsters XRPL liquidity and “ecosystem strength.” These specifics come from the conference stage and social-media reporting; formal documentation has not yet been published.

Axelar’s role in the stack is consistent with its broader integration work on XRPL this year. In June, Axelar announced it had delivered the first cross-chain connectivity for the XRP Ledger EVM Sidechain, enabling wrapped XRP as native gas and wiring XRPL into more than 80 networks and cross-chain apps via Squid. The company has also highlighted “Earn yield onchain… start with XRP and Stellar” in its public messaging—context that helps explain how a yield-bearing XRP wrapper could source liquidity and strategy execution across venues.

Midas, for its part, has been rolling out “Liquid Yield Tokens” backed by baskets of DeFi fund strategies in 2025—an adjacent template that provides a reference point for how tokenized claim-on-yield instruments can be structured under EU oversight. The mXRP wrapper appears to apply that tokenization logic to XRP collateral specifically, with Axelar providing the cross-chain rails.

The core idea behind “infinite buying power” is straightforward: demand to mint mXRP programmatically purchases XRP as base collateral; compounding yields grow the collateral base over time; and integrations that require mXRP/XRP liquidity create additional, recurring order flow.

Advocates argue that this creates a positive feedback loop in which “mXRP usage → deeper XRP liquidity,” and more liquidity invites more integrations, which in turn brings more capital on-chain. “The Infinite Money Glitch… with @MidasRWA mXRP that becomes a ‘perpetual buyer of $XRP,’” one widely shared summary read.

At press time, XRP traded at $2.81.

Save $36 on a Cool, Compact Hall Effect Keyboard

by admin September 22, 2025

Looking for a compact keyboard with a unique twist? The Keychron Q1 HE (9/10, WIRED Recommends) is currently marked down over $35 on Amazon, and comes with Hall Effect switches, a rare offering that adds a ton of functionality to your keyboard.

Photograph: Henri Robbins

Think of a keyboard switch like light switches. They have a fixed point where they activate, and all they can report is whether they’re in one of two states. Hall effect switches are more like light dimmer knobs. They know exactly where they currently are and can report that information back to the computer, which has a number of advantages over traditional keyboard switches.

For starters, you don’t have to settle for a fixed actuation point like you do on most keyboards. You can use the software to set the keys to be super sensitive, or require them to be almost all the way down, or even set keys to send different button presses depending on how hard they’re pressed. If you like to play video games, you can set keys to act like an analog joystick or trigger, letting you easily steer in racing games or walk in RPGs without picking up a controller.

The software has a lot of options, but is well thought out and easy to use, although you do need to plug it in to make changes. It’s QMK-based, but Keychron provides their own web-based launcher to make things even easier, particularly if you’re not well versed in that customization software.

It’s a premium mechanical keyboard throughout. The switches themselves are made by Gateron, and our reviewer noted that they’re exceptionally smooth, thanks to the pre-lubed rails and magnetic sensor. The gasket mount design and full aluminum body work together to provide a soft, deep, typing experience. Unless you’re already using linear switches, you might miss some of the crispness and feedback you get from a tactile or clicky mechanical switch.

While the larger Keychron Q6 HE currently sits at the top of our list of favorite mechanical keyboards, if you don’t need the num pad, you might appreciate the extra desk space you can reclaim with the Q1 HE. They’re otherwise extremely similar boards, and you’ll save $50 in the process.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! Returns Following Disney Boycott

by admin September 22, 2025

Tomorrow, Jimmy Kimmel will return to host his late-night show after it was “indefinitely” put on hold on September 17 by Disney following remarks he made about Charlie Kirk in the wake of the conservative commentator’s assassination earlier this month. The decision prompted a large amount of backlash from fans, actors, and comedians, and led to calls for a Disney boycott.

On September 22, Disney and ABC confirmed via a statement shared with the press that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will return to the air following a near-weeklong hiatus that came after the comedian spoke about Kirk’s assassination and his thoughts on how some Republican politicians, including President Trump, and other conservative commentators acted in the days that followed the shooting.

“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” said Disney and ABC in a statement. “It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”

Since last week, Marvel and Star Wars actors like Pedro Pascal and Mark Hamill have spoken out publicly against Disney and ABC’s decision to suspend production on Kimmel’s popular late-night talk show after he joked that many members of the “MAGA gang” hit a new “low” after many of them tried to “score political points” from Kirk’s assassination. He also directly called out Trump’s awkward and cold reaction to Kirk’s death when asked multiple times about it, despite Trump claiming to call Kirk a friend. At no point, as documented extensively, did Kimmel joke about Kirk’s death. Yet that didn’t matter. FCC Chairman and Trump loyalist Brendan Carr threatened to investigate ABC and pull its broadcast licenses over Kimmel’s monologue. So Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Dana Walden and CEO Bob Iger capitulated instantly and shut the show down.

This is a developing story…

US Lawmakers Urge SEC To Allow Crypto Investments In 401(k) Plans

by admin September 22, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

A group of US lawmakers, led by House Committee on Financial Services Chairman French Hill, have reached out to Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Paul Atkins to express their support for Executive Order 14330, which seeks to democratize access to crypto assets for 401(k) investors.

Crypto Inclusion In Retirement Savings

In a letter addressed to Chairman Atkins, the lawmakers highlighted the executive order’s potential to enhance retirement savings for “millions of Americans.”

They emphasized the importance of enabling access to alternative investments such as crypto, which could improve net risk-adjusted returns for retirement accounts when deemed appropriate by plan fiduciaries.

The letter calls for the SEC to collaborate with the Department of Labor to revise existing regulations and guidance, ensuring that these investment opportunities become accessible to a broader range of investors.

New Bipartisan Push

The lawmakers also pointed out that the executive order includes directives for the SEC to facilitate access to alternative assets specifically within participant-directed defined contribution retirement savings plans. They noted that this could involve reassessing the criteria for accredited investors and qualified purchasers.

The bipartisan group encouraged the SEC to act promptly in assisting the Secretary of Labor with necessary regulatory revisions. They also urged the SEC to consider bipartisan legislation currently advancing in Congress that focuses on the definition of accredited investors.

Their hope is that these efforts will benefit the roughly 90 million Americans who are currently unable to invest in crypto and alternative assets, thereby helping them secure a “dignified and comfortable retirement.”

The daily chart shows the total crypto market cap valuation drop toward $3.8 trillion. Source: TOTAL on TradingView.com

U.S., U.K. Form Task Force to Align on Crypto and Capital Markets

by admin September 22, 2025

The U.S. and U.K. have established a joint Transatlantic Taskforce aimed at strengthening cooperation on capital markets and digital assets.

The task force, announced on Sep. 22 by U.K. Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, will bring together officials from HM Treasury, the U.S. Treasury and market regulators across both jurisdictions.

Two of the goals of the task force is to develop approaches to digital asset oversight and explore new opportunities in wholesale digital markets.

The group will report within 180 days through the existing U.K.–U.S. Financial Regulatory Working Group, delivering recommendations shaped in close consultation with private industry, the release said.

“London and New York remain the twin pillars of global finance,” Reeves said, adding that closer alignment is essential as technology reshapes markets. Bessent echoed that sentiment during a Downing Street roundtable, calling the initiative a commitment to ensuring innovation in financial markets “does not stop at borders.”

Crypto at the forefront

While the task force’s remit spans traditional capital markets, digital assets are expected to take center stage.

Officials will look at both short-term measures, such as facilitating cross-border use cases while legislation remains in flux, and long-term strategies for advancing wholesale digital market infrastructure.

“With the creation of a joint U.K.-U.S. task force on capital markets and digital assets, we can expect meaningful developments on both sides of the Atlantic,” Mark Aruliah, head of EMEA policy and regulatory affairs at Elliptic, said in an email.

While noting that the U.S. has “set the pace with a pro-innovation agenda,” Aruliah suggested the task force “signals a strong intent to close that gap and position the U.K. more competitively.”

More broadly, the firm described the collaboration as a validation of the digital assets industry itself: “Structured collaboration of this kind will strengthen a shared commitment to higher standards of transparency and accountability, and may establish a global benchmark if other jurisdictions follow suit.”

  1. Enter the matchmaking lobby, look for the currency NPC
  2. Interact with him to open the shop menu for buying diamonds
  3. Select the blue Codes button in the bottom-right corner
  4. Input your code and hit Submit

If the code you input is still active, the game should add a new batch of diamonds to your total in the bottom-left corner of the UI. Diamonds may not be the most useful when you’re actually in a match, but you can save them up to exchange for new classes at the Daily Class Shop.
