Hyperliquid’s Solana moment is near as HYPE mirrors SOL-like 300% rally structure

by admin May 25, 2025

Key takeaways:

  • HYPE is mirroring Solana’s 2021 breakout structure, targeting a 240% rally by July.

  • Familiar crypto fractals suggest HYPE could spark similar momentum-driven hype.

Hyperliquid’s native token, HYPE, is mirroring a strikingly similar price structure to Solana’s (SOL) early 2021 breakout—one that preceded a 300% rally.

HYPE chart fractal targets 240% rally by July

In January 2021, Solana broke out from a prolonged consolidation phase just as marketwide interest began accelerating.

The breakout, highlighted by a decisive flip above key Fibonacci retracement levels, triggered a vertical rally that saw SOL jump to the 4.618 Fib retracement line at around $19 from roughly $4.90 in under two months, marking a 291% surge.

Fast forward to May 2025, HYPE’s daily chart is showing the same bullish structure following its 270% rebound from $10 lows in April, aligning with its 0.0 Fibonacci retracement line.

On May 23, HYPE broke above its 1.0 Fibonacci retracement level (~$35.88), echoing the early stages of SOL’s explosive run in 2021.

Moreover, the relative strength index (RSI) for HYPE has entered deeply overbought territory (above 84), which, while suggesting caution in the short term, also underscores the strength of the current momentum, much like Solana’s RSI profile during its 2021 breakout.

If HYPE continues to follow this fractal, the 1.618 Fibonacci extension level near $51.68 appears to be the next logical target. Beyond that, the 4.618 level at around $128 could mark the peak of this potential rally, a 240% move from its recent breakout zone near $35.

Hyperliquid is like Solana and FTX combined — analyst

Popular analyst and commentator Ansem highlights that Hyperliquid’s vision is very similar to what Solana and FTX aimed to build during their early partnership: a high-performance, low-cost crypto trading experience.

He argues that, unlike FTX’s centralized architecture, Hyperliquid is fully onchain.

Source: X/Ansem

Nearly 97% of all trading revenue goes directly back to HYPE tokenholders, Ansem noted, adding that such fundamentals will assist the Hyperliquid token to reach “all-time highs soon.”

Psychologically, traders are often drawn to familiar and previously successful patterns.

In 2017, Ether (ETH) mirrored Bitcoin’s (BTC) 2013 arc almost identically, from the parabolic blow-off top to the retracement and range-bound recovery phase.

When traders recognize that HYPE could be repeating Solana’s 2021 trajectory visually and fundamentally, it may reinforce bullish conviction and draw in speculators hoping to catch the next “Solana” moment.

How to Watch Tonight’s Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Game 3 for Free

by admin May 25, 2025

Hot off double wins in the first two playoff games of the Western Conference Finals, the Oklahoma City Thunder face off again against the Minnesota Timberwolves for game three tonight at 8:30 pm ET.

After newly crowned MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 38 points for the Thunder in game two, OKC is poised to enter their first Finals since 2012. Will the Timberwolves be able to thwart their hopes?

To find out, here’s how you can watch free with a VPN.

What time is game 3 of the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. the Minnesota Timberwolves?

The Minnesota Timberwolves will host the Oklahoma City Thunder at Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 24 at 8:30 pm ET. The game will air on ABC.

How to watch the third Thunder-Timberwolves playoff game free

You can watch game three on the NBA’s YouTube livestream. The livestream is region-locked to India but you can access it free with a VPN.

There are plenty of free and paid VPNs to choose from. However, free VPNs often don’t allow you to pick server locations so we don’t recommend them for watching region-locked sports games. CNET recommends tuning in with ExpressVPN. It offers fast speeds, is available on a range of devices and costs $13 a month.

ExpressVPN (and other services) also offer a free trial that can allow you to watch this game without paying a penny — but you will need to pay if you want to use it to watch additional games.

How to use a VPN to stream tonight’s game 3 free

  1. Sign up for a VPN if you don’t already use one. (Our top pick is ExpressVPN.)
  2. Open or download the VPN app to your phone or computer.
  3. Connect to one of the VPN’s servers in India.
  4. Once connected, go to YouTube’s NBA livestream.
  5. Click on the Thunder vs. Timberwolves game to watch.

ExpressVPN is our current best VPN pick for people who want a reliable and safe VPN, and it works on a variety of devices. It’s normally $13 a month, but if you sign up for an annual subscription for $100 you’ll get three months free and save 49%. That’s the equivalent of $6.67 a month.

Note that ExpressVPN offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Details

Other ways to stream NBA playoff games

You can tune into the NBA playoff games with a cable subscription, live TV streaming service or VPN. The games will air across ABC, ESPN and TNT.

You can sign up for YouTubeTV, Hulu Plus Live TV, DirecTV Stream, Sling TV or HBO Max.

YouTube TV costs $83 per month and has all three channels you’ll need to watch every game in the NBA playoffs.

Read our YouTube TV review.

Details

Includes ABC, ESPN and TNT for $83 per month Includes ABC, ESPN and TNT for $83 per month Includes ABC, ESPN and TNT for $85 per month Includes ABC, ESPN and TNT for $61 per month

Max, recently renamed HBO Max (again), has a $17-a-month Standard plan that will show the TNT broadcasts for the NBA playoffs. You won’t get ABC or ESPN access, however.

Dragonbane RPG to add two new books through Kickstarter on June 3rd

by admin May 25, 2025

The award-winning RPG Dragonbane is coming to Kickstarter June 3rd. Free League Publishing will seek funding for two new books, Arkand and The Book of Magic:

Free League Publishing is announcing not one, but two beautifully illustrated and finely crafted expansions for the multiple award-winning Dragonbane RPG. Both Arkand – City of Waves and Flames and the Book of Magic will officially launch on Kickstarter on June 3, 2025. Backers can sign up here to be notified at launch.

As an exclusive offering in this campaign, there will be special limited-edition versions of both Arkand – City of Waves and Flames and the Book of Magic, with deluxe faux leather covers and gold foil stamping. Backers who support the Kickstarter campaign at any pledge level that begets physical rewards within the first 48 hours will receive an early pledge bonus: a 216mm x 279mm print of the cover art of their choosing: either Arkand – City of Waves and Flames or the Book of Magic.

Arkand – City of Waves and Flames Key Features

  • A rich, bustling setting: Over a dozen adventure sites spread across five districts, along with a number of campaign seeds, and even more adventure sites available to be unlocked as stretch goals in this Kickstarter.
  • Danger and intrigue: The player characters will experience a fierce power struggle in the city’s underworld, take on the role of demon hunters, and uncover secrets about Arkand’s storied past that could change the city forever.
  • Award-winning creativity: Arkand – City of Waves and Flames is written by Johan Sjöberg and illustrated by Johan Egerkrans and David Brasgalla. If unlocked as a stretch goal, this book will also include a large separate 432 x 558mm full-color map drawn by Francesca Baerald.

Book of Magic Key Features

  • More magic: The Book of Magic adds at least five new schools of magic to your Dragonbane game, including harmonism, demonology, necromancy, witchcraft, and illusionism – as well as new spells for the existing schools of general magic, animism, elementalism, and mentalism.
  • More spells: All featured schools of magic come with a wide range of spells, which now come in five ranks. Each school is also described with information about their practitioners, station and reputation in the world, and what kind of spiritus familarius their members typically summon.
  • More award-winning creativity: The Book of Magic is written by Mattias Johnsson Haake and Mattias Lilja (creators of Symbaroum) with Tomas Härenstam (Dragonbane Core Set) as co-writer and editor, and illustrated by Johan Egerkrans and David Brasgalla.

About Dragonbane

Released in 2023, Dragonbane is a classic fantasy tabletop roleplaying game full of magic, mystery, and adventure. It is designed from the ground up to facilitate fast and furious play, with very little prep time and adventures that are a breeze to run. This “mirth and mayhem” game style leaves room for laughs at the table, while still offering brutal challenges for the adventurers.

Dragonbane is a translation of Drakar och Demoner, Scandinavia’s first and biggest tabletop RPG, originally launched in 1982. The new and reimagined edition has one foot firmly planted in the heritage of decades of Swedish gaming and the other in the modern and innovative game design for which Free League Publishing is known worldwide.

Players worldwide are invited to design and publish their own supplements for Dragonbane, using the third-party license for the game.

539,000,000,000,000 Shiba Inu (SHIB) Level Born

by admin May 25, 2025

According to the most recent data from IntoTheBlock, Shiba Inu is at the point where things might turn around, as the asset lingers at the 539 trillion SHIB on-chain resistance level. This level, which includes 132,610 addresses and an average price of $0.000017, is serving as a stronghold of selling pressure as shown by the thick red bands on the In/Out of the Money charts. The bullish argument is also not supported technically by the SHIB daily price chart.

SHIB was knocked back to $0.0000142 after making a strong attempt to regain the $0.000015 level. At this point it is teasing the important short-term support at $0.0000140. While the 100 and 200-day EMAs are still firmly above the market preventing any sustained breakout attempts, the 50-day EMA (green) has flattened.

SHIB/USDT Chart by TradingView

Momentum is evaporating as the RSI struggles around the neutral 50 level. This is supported by volume data, which shows waning buy-side fervor even as SHIB tests important support. In summary, the chart displays a classic example of bullish fatigue. What is the significance of this 539 trillion SHIB level then?

You Might Also Like

This resistance cluster is a battlefield of market psychology rather than merely a collection of idle bag holders. Since many of these addresses are probably waiting for an opportunity to break even, any rally into the $0.000015-$0.000017 zone is probably going to encounter strong sell pressure as these trapped holders sell. It is a formidable barrier for SHIB to overcome because of this.

The $0.0000140 support is essential for bulls to hold. Anticipate a decline to $0.0000135 and possibly $0.0000120 if it breaks, wiping out the gains from the May bounce. The psychological level of $0.000018 would be the next target if SHIB could absorb the selling at the 539 trillion resistance and flip it. SHIB is currently at a crossroads: Either hold up against the 539 trillion sell wall and rise or watch as the last wave of buyers pulls the rug out from under it.

Fortnite leaker says some OG matches can be over 90% bots now

by admin May 25, 2025

Fortnite players know that lobbies aren’t entirely human. Some enemies have such stilted movement or perish in such deeply silly ways that the only logical conclusion is that you’re fighting a bot. The extent of Fortnite’s bot usage is difficult to discern in the middle of a match, however, which is where data miners come in. AllyJax, a Fortnite leaker with an accurate track record, periodically tests the number of bots generated by a match. And as of late May, anyone playing the OG version of Fortnite might find themselves barely surrounded by real players at all.

According to AllyJax, the minimum number of human players OG Fortnite needs before starting a match is just eight. That means there’s a chance you could be in a lobby that has 92 AIs fighting for a chance at a victory royale. This doesn’t necessarily mean every match will be an army of bots, but it does mean that you cannot trust that every single character you kill in Fortnite’s nostalgia mode has another person on the other side of the interaction.

To determine the number of bots, AllyJax uses a Discord bot know as The Dub, which, among other things, can be commanded to count the number of real players in any given lobby. Bots are largely identifiable by names retained across different matches.

It’s also worth noting that Epic Games appears to adjust bot numbers all the time. Previously, AllyJax found that OG matches could be 25% bots one month and 40% bots the next month. Epic has also reverted course in the past and decreased the number of bots that a lobby might generate. The bot-heavy lobbies are also only present in social play, not ranked modes.

Epic Games did not respond to a request for comment. With that said, games like Fortnite rely on bots for a variety of reasons, like ensuring short wait times. As of this writing, the older-season-replicating OG playlist is the fifth most popular Fortnite mode, which means that its player count is a fraction of what you might find in the main battle royale modes.

Fortnite also eases new players into its gameplay by introducing them to bot-heavy lobbies at first, after which the game uses skill-based matchmaking to determine the prevalence of AI in any given match. At times, players might intentionally go on a losing streak to force Fortnite to generate a bot lobby.

In short, Fortnite might thrust a player into a bot lobby for their enjoyment: It’s hard to have fun if all you do is lose. But does a victory royale feel as sweet if you know that you didn’t make a real person suffer for it? Much to think about.

TCL QM7K review: stunning image quality for an affordable price

by admin May 25, 2025

“The TCL QM7K offers a stunning image for its price point, bringing premium-level picture quality to your living room without costing a small fortune.”

Pros

  • Fantastic color accuracy
  • Impressive contrast
  • Excellent brightness
  • Decently wide viewing angle

Cons

  • Reflective screen
  • Unimpressive sound

We finally got our hands on the TCL QM7K Mini-LED QLED, winner of our Top Tech of CES 2025 award. Earlier this year we reviewed the QM6K and were impressed with its value and performance, so we’re excited to put the QM7K through its paces.

TCL continues to impress in the midrange and I’m happy to say, the QM7K did not disappoint. Mini-LED screen technology is making for gorgeous displays with incredible contrast more affordable for the average consumer, and TCL is really showing what the technology can do with this new entry.

There’s a good chance that this isn’t the last model we’ll hear about from TCL this year as the company has switched to a staggered release approach for its 2025 models, but for now let’s soak in the QM7K and all it has to offer.

Affordable price means a less premium build

Andre Revilla / Digital Trends

The QM7K targets that affordable middle ground between a true budget TV and the premium flagship models of today. It aims to be within reach of most consumers, particularly in the smaller 55- or 65-inch models.

So I can’t say I was too shocked when I started unboxing and assembling the QM7K that I found its construction to be a little flimsy.

Andre Revilla / Digital Trends

The stand that holds the TV is designed as one central piece, as opposed to the individual legs of the QM6K, which makes attaching it to the QM7K a straightforward process. It’s brushed to look like metal, but metal it is not.

The plastic T-shaped stand weighs about 5 pounds and does its job in holding the 85-inch model we tested for this review.

Andre Revilla / Digital Trends

The TV itself weighs only 75 pounds, aided by a frame made almost entirely of plastic. Savings have to come from somewhere to hit these price points, right? The good news is that this makes assembly a lot easier than on far heavier (albeit sturdier) high-end models.

The QM7K sways a bit anytime you move it or the furniture it sits on, but it’s held securely enough that it’s not going anywhere.

Decent audio, nothing mind-blowing

The audio on the TCL QM7K is billed as having better audio than the QM6K, thanks to a Bang & Olufsen audio upgrade, which TCL says will offer “more accurate sound quality for an enhanced home theater audio experience.” All in all, the 2.2-speaker system performs about as expected for a mostly affordable model. Which is to say, it didn’t sound terrible, but it didn’t sound great.

Andre Revilla / Digital Trends

The bass response left a lot to be desired, but it’s not like I was expecting a 6-inch subwoofer built into the TV. The dialogue could at times sound muddled, blending in a bit too much with a soundtrack or background noise.

This really only happened in intense scenes where loud music, dialogue, and sound effects all combined in a cacophony of sound. The QM7K natively supports Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital+ audio, but the built-in speakers aren’t doing it justice.

Seeing as this model supports Dolby Atmos passthrough, you’d be better off with a Dolby Atmos soundbar, or another dedicated audio system to get the most out of the Dolby audio available on most streaming platforms.

Color accurate right out of the box

The QM7K features a number of display profiles that users can select from, but for our purposes we’re going to focus on Filmmaker Mode, which was first added on the QM6K. This mode is designed for color accuracy, and it was spot-on right out of the box.

Andre Revilla / Digital Trends

We tested the QM7K first in SDR while in Filmmaker Mode, and it delivered an impressive color delta E of 0.8. While this fell to near zero post-calibration, that’s honestly not even necessary, as the human eye struggles to distinguish a delta E of less than 1.0, making Filmmaker Mode more than sufficient.

More than bright enough

If you’re looking to sear your eyeballs out of your sockets during nighttime viewing, then the QM7K is the right TV for you. TCL advertises a peak brightness of 3,000 nits in HDR for the QM7K, though this varies by size and will vary slightly by panel.

Andre Revilla / Digital Trends

In my own testing, I was able to get one 2,400-nit burst in HDR testing in a 10% window with brightness, peak luminance, and dynamic backlighting all turned up to the max. More stable readings in HDR came in around 2,000 nits in peak brightness. Peak brightness measurements in SDR came in at a still very respectable 1,600 nits.

If you’re wanting to get the best color accuracy and contrast out of your QM7K with minimal clipping and as much uniformity as possible, then you’ll likely be watching Filmmaker Mode in its default configuration, which still offers 800 nits with the brightness turned to 100 while keeping those other backlight and luminance settings turned off.

My gripe with reflections

While the brightness of the QM7K more than delivers, nothing could get away from the fact that the screen itself was pretty reflective. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen worse, but if your living room is like mine and has windows opposite the TV, you’ll find yourself getting up to close them every time you turn on the TV during the daytime.

Windows reflected in the TCL QM7K Andre Revilla / Digital Trends

I’m not even picking on reflections when sunlight is pouring in the windows midday, as this issue persists into the evening when the sun is already starting to set. With brightness settings maxed, the QM7K can handle as bright a room as you can throw at it, but any sort of light source directly in front of the screen from your viewing position will be thrown back at you and remains quite visible even in bright scenes.

A superb image overall

All in all, the TCL QM7K offers a stunning image for its price point. Without getting too far into the weeds, I’ll say that a lot of cool tech—like the condensed micro lens in the backlight system, helping focus and direct the light from each mini LED, and the decreased optical distance, which is the space between the backlight and the LCD—helps create an image with excellent contrast.

These technologies also help reduce haloing in HDR, as they lead to less light scatter. The QM7K really goes to show that Mini LED QLED panels are taking the fight to OLED, bringing premium-level picture quality to your living room without costing you a small fortune.

Value remains the focus

TCL has continued to impress with panel technology and image quality while maintaining approachable pricing. The 85-inch model we tested launched just over two months ago and is already being sold by all major retailers and TCL at about a 30% markdown from its original MSRP of $2,500.

Right now, that means you can pick up an 85-inch QM7K for $1,800, and the 55-inch is currently marked down to under $900. Look for these prices to continue dropping as the year goes on, especially as we get into the holiday season.

The TCL QM7K is an impressive entry that blurs the line between flagship and mid-range in performance while staying solidly in the realm of mid-range pricing. I’ll be eagerly awaiting any TCL launches hopefully still to come this year.

Dogecoin breaks out, Ripple targets $3, new DeFi coin raises about $1 million

by admin May 25, 2025

Disclosure: This article does not represent investment advice. The content and materials featured on this page are for educational purposes only.

Dogecoin’s breakout hints at renewed bullishness, while Unilabs’ $1m presale and AI-powered DeFi tech spark buzz.

Dogecoin’s price has broken out of a cup-and-handle pattern, implying that bullish energy is back. Meanwhile, Ripple bulls are targeting the $3.00 mark after a long period of sideways movement. However, stealing the spotlight is Unilabs (UNIL), a next-generation DeFi coin that has already raised nearly $1 million in its presale.

With its AI-powered investment engine and growing community, Unilabs could be a formidable force in the DeFi market. The platform seeks to introduce AI technology into DeFi investments, making it smarter and easier.

Dogecoin breaks out of cup and handle pattern

According to Trader Tardigrade, the Dogecoin price is about to explode. The analyst noted that the memecoin has broken out from a cup and handle pattern. If the uptrend continues, the Dogecoin price could cross the $0.25 resistance to $0.30.

Another analyst known as Glory2GloryX told their followers the Dogecoin price is breaking out of a bullish flag. They say the value of DOGE could rise to $0.35 as the next target. Meanwhile, CryptoKaleo forecasts that the Dogecoin price could climb to $1.00 in the coming months.

The value of DOGE is historically known to skyrocket after a Bitcoin halving, his chart showed. So, the analyst told his followers not to sleep on DOGE. The Dogecoin price is now consolidating between $0.21 and $0.25.

Its value has skyrocketed by 12.0% on the weekly level, signaling a massive hike in buying momentum. The monthly and yearly Dogecoin price charts are also bullish with gains of 37.7% and 48.3%, respectively.

Ripple price soars, $3 in view

According to CoinMarketCap, the Ripple price has pumped by 2.8% on the weekly level after bouncing off $2.30. The altcoin is mirroring the uptrend in the market and could climb to its monthly high of $2.60 if bullish momentum remains.

In terms of future trajectory, Crypto Beast says the Ripple price could soar to $3.14 soon. With more buying pressure, the analyst expects the Ripple price to surge to $4.29.

Another analyst called Dominus believes the Ripple price could climb higher. They argued that a God Candle is coming, which could push the Ripple price to $7.00. RipBullWinkle is another expert who believes the Ripple price is ready to skyrocket.

They posted a Ripple price chart where the value of XRP shot up to $5.40. Technical analysis currently shows that bulls are in control. The relative strength index, which is above 50, signals that bulls are in charge.

AI is changing the cryptocurrency sector. In 2025, AI-focused crypto tokens have surged, adding nearly $10 billion in market capitalization, with several top assets rallying over 50%. Amid this AI boom, a new DeFi project is gaining momentum. Unilabs is a standout project offering an AI-powered platform designed to optimize crypto investments through intelligent automation.

Unilabs is a platform that uses AI to manage and make the most of cryptocurrency portfolios. It provides a range of funds: AI Fund, BTC Fund, RWA Fund and Mining Fund, all suited to various investment ideas.

The Unilabs presale is currently live, offering UNIL tokens at an attractive price of $0.0051. Referral bonuses, tiered staking rewards, and a 30% share of platform fees redistributed to token holders are available to early participants. The referral program and staking rewards encourage community engagement and long-term investment.

Top DeFi projects like Cardano have had huge growth, with its price increasing by over 10,000% since its launch. If Unilabs captures even a modest share of the expanding DeFi market, it could see huge price appreciation. With its unique approach and current presale offering, early entrants stand to gain huge returns.

Can Unilabs rival the best crypto to buy in 2025

While the Dogecoin price and Ripple continue to gain traction, Unilabs is a dark horse in the DeFi space. Its intelligent automation, real utility, and explosive presale momentum position it as a future DeFi leader. For investors hunting the next big breakout, Unilabs may just be the coin that turns early investment into huge returns.

Bitcoin’s $250,000 Target Gets DOGE Founder’s Reaction: Details

  • Bitcoin price predictions

Dogecoin co-founder Billy Markus, also known as “Shibetoshi Nakamoto” on X, has reacted to the wave of bold Bitcoin forecasts flooding the crypto media landscape. In a recent tweet, the Dogecoin co-founder poked fun at exaggerated predictions: “Crypto article headlines be like: (random guy no one has heard of) predicts bitcoin will reach $250,000 by the end of the year.”

crypto article headlines be like:

“[random guy no one has heard of] predicts bitcoin will reach $250k by the end of the year”

— Shibetoshi Nakamoto (@BillyM2k) May 24, 2025

Markus is known for his dry humor and critical take on the state of crypto discourse. While his comment was tongue-in-cheek, it resonated with many in the crypto community.

You Might Also Like

Since stepping back from the active development of Dogecoin, Markus has remained a vocal and often satirical figure, frequently calling out what he sees as irrational exuberance and misinformation in the crypto space.

At a current price of $107,102, Bitcoin (BTC) is 133% of the ambitious target of $250,000. Hitting this aim in a matter of months would necessitate an explosive rally, which is not impossible but likely unusual at its current pace.

Bitcoin price action

On May 22, Bitcoin reached a new all-time high of almost $112,000. Unlike the rocket rallies to new records that long-time Bitcoin enthusiasts are used to, the cryptocurrency has been climbing at a slower-than-usual pace, fueled by increased institutional ownership and corporate adoption.

You Might Also Like

At the time of writing, Bitcoin was down 1.13% in the last 24 hours to $107,102, owing to profit-taking following recent highs and macroeconomic concerns in the market.

Bitcoin price predictions

This year, several Bitcoin forecasts have been made. Veteran trader Peter Brandt predicted that Bitcoin would reach $125,000-$150,000 by the end of August.

Geoffrey Kendrick, head of digital assets at Standard Chartered, who predicted Bitcoin would reach $120,000 by the second quarter, stated his price call was “too low.”

As reported, market analyst Willy Woo predicted that Bitcoin could skyrocket to $118,000 if its all-time high were decisively breached.

3D Is Back. This Time, You Can Ditch the Glasses

by admin May 25, 2025

Samsung says it performed an internal survey among what it calls its “hardcore gaming” demographic to find out what they wanted in a next-generation gaming display. This demographic is marked by a willingness to pay thousands for the latest PC gaming gear. Sixty-two percent said they expected the next generation to include advanced immersion—the perfect place to test the waters with 3D tech.

“As we’re looking at the demographic, or just the overall consumer base for monitors, especially when you’re talking about premium monitors over $1,000, the overwhelming majority is spending it on gaming,” You says. That’s important because these first 3D gaming monitors don’t come cheap. Despite the surprisingly limited game support at launch, the Samsung Odyssey 3D costs a cool $2,000.

“We’re in that early adopter stage, right? The sticker price is a little bit of a shock to most consumers,” he says. “But we feel like once we get people into the 3D ecosystem, we’ll get more game studios and developers brought into it because they see the total accessible market increasing.”

When it comes down to it, gamers are willing to spend more on an immersive experience, and that’s going to buy time for the rest of the 3D ecosystem to catch up.

3D on Every Screen

As You notes, even the Odyssey 3D is “so much more than just a 3D gaming monitor.” Whether it’s YouTube, Zoom, or even just full-screen photos, the display can convert 2D into 3D using machine-learning algorithms, adding an artificial layer of depth that wasn’t previously there. While the effect is not as convincing as in games, and DRM limitations restrict the content, it’s an impressive tech demo nonetheless. More than that, AI is enabling 3D to overcome the need for tailor-made 3D content, another one of the main problems with 3D tech in the past. It’s planting the seeds for broader uses that a more mainstream audience can benefit from.

Fattal says gaming is his second-favorite use case for 3D. “3D has that power to convey the human connection a lot better than on a flat screen,” he says, explaining that taking 3D photos and videos of his kids was what made him truly believe in the power of 3D. His dream is a world in which all videos can be taken and experienced in 3D. “Our goal is to end up completely standard on all devices, but especially on cell phones, so that people can chat and take pictures and videos, and share on social media—and all of that should be in 3D.”

It’s an ambitious aspiration, and one echoed by Silicon Valley titans. Apple and Google have been touting spatial photos and videos with their respective mixed-reality ecosystems, where you’ll be able to experience memories with depth. Google also recently showed off Google Beam—a way to convert people in video calls to appear more 3D and lifelike for a more personal touch.

The Apple Vision Pro could never exist without gamers willing to try out the early versions of VR, even with the severe lack of game libraries and uncomfortable headsets. There have always been other use cases for VR, but gaming has always been the main draw. It’s too early to say whether this new era of 3D will have more success going beyond gaming than VR has.

Don’t expect 3D TVs to make a comeback anytime soon—the current implementation makes it so that the 3D tech only works for one person. But for now, companies like Samsung have much brighter hopes for the proliferation of 3D, promising to “triple down” on its 3D monitor lineup in the next year or two. That’s a serious vote of confidence.
