Dell’s decided to show the competition just how a serious laptop deal gets done. They’ve taken one of their premier models — a 2025 Inspiron 15.6-Inch Full-HD Touchscreen with 32GB of RAM, a massive 2TB SSD, and Windows 11 Professional preloaded — and taken a 72% hack out of its price, listing it for just $869 at Amazon. For added incentive they’re throwing in a $199 accessories bundle, with a wireless mouse, USB hub, and more, on the house.

All that built-in processing heft, not to mention the Intel 13th Gen 10-core i5-1334U processor with 12M cache and speeds reaching 4.6GHz, are almost unheard of in a laptop being offered at such a dramatically reduced price. Then there’s the touchscreen, which presents all sorts of possibilities, especially when you add an inexpensive stylus to mark up, draw, edit, and perform all kinds of productive and creative tasks.

Absolute Upgrade

Unless you’ve bought a brand-new laptop within the past 12 months or so, this 2025 model Dell Inspiron touchscreen laptop would almost certainly be an upgrade for you, even above and beyond the preloaded Windows 11 Pro with Microsoft Copilot that would normally cost you a subscription fee. When you read about all the perks and bells and whistles packed into this Dell Inspiron, you might just start looking differently at your current laptop and all of its little flaws, slowdowns, and outdated bits.

Blue Protocol: Star Resonance is finally out in the west and off to a strong start on Steam, but was the MMORPG worth the wait?

MMORPG Blue Protocol: Star Resonance was finally released in the west yesterday, and is already off to a strong start on Steam.

It’s already peaked at almost 95k concurrent players, meaning it has more players at the time of writing than Hollow Knight: Silksong, Marvel Rivals, and EA Sports FC 26.

The anime MMO from Bandai Namco was previously released in Japan and was set to receive a western release by Amazon Games. However, in August 2024 the Japanese servers were shut down and the western release cancelled.

Since then, the Tencent-funded developer Bokura picked up the project, added Star Resonance to the name, and has now released it as a free-to-play game across PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and mobile (iOS, Google) in North America, Europe, Latin America, and Oceania.

But after all that, was it worth the wait?

Steam reviews from players so far would suggest not. Blue Protocol currently has a Mixed rating, with criticisms of its lack of content, generic gameplay, and gacha mechanics.

“Just once I would love to get an anime MMO without 1000 currencies, gacha, 5000 ‘presents’ with no real value and overloaded UI,” wrote one Steam user. Wrote another: “This absolute slop represents the culmination of the cancer that has killed the MMO genre.”

Other players, meanwhile, are more positive, claiming it has “great art and visuals” and that for a free-to-play game it’s worth a go.

At the time of its Japanese cancellation, the developers stated the “difficult decision” to end service was made as “it will not be possible to provide a service that satisfies all of you”.

I went hands-on with Blue Protocol ahead of its release way back in 2023, and while it was enjoyable I questioned if it could do enough to differentiate itself from its HoYoVerse competition. Once the game was released in Japan, it didn’t receive a particularly positive reception, which ultimately led to its cancellation.

Blue Protocol’s Star Resonance revival will certainly give it a second lease of life, but whether it was worth it remains questionable.

If you’re all about making next-level and viral content, you’ve very likely heard the whispering around Sora 2 that is the newest AI from OpenAI that’s literally conjuring out wild ideas into cinematic short movies from straight off the phone. All About the Hype Around Sora 2

Sora 2 is not only an upgrade but the complete redo for AI video: Scenes are realistic; you throw the ball, and the ball really bounces naturally. Street sounds, background chatter, even explosions synchronize what you’re seeing on the screen and you can edit videos with friends directly from the iOS app. The Cameo is the end all feature, where you get to appear in scenes by simply uploading the selfie and voice recording. Now you’re riding the wave off Hawaii or rapping aliens on Mars even though the reality is you recorded you from the safety of the bedroom.

For now, OpenAI is only letting North Americans in and partly to keep a handle on moderation and to test for issues before letting the rest of the world unleash creative chaos. That makes sense, but if you’re reading this, you’re probably itching to bypass the wall.

Begin by getting the good VPN that’s got quick US servers; all the devs have the ones national tech reviewers like Journal du Geek in France would advise but any good VPN is fine (we’d recommend NordVPN though, you can read a full review here). Square Enix is finally releasing Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth as a physical double pack.

These games are the first two parts of the Remake trilogy, which reimagines the original PS1 classic Final Fantasy 7.

Available from 4th December exclusively on PS5, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Twin Pack Physical Edition (as it’s known) will cost $59.99 / €69.99 / £59.99. You can pre-order it now from the Square Enix store.

Rebirth alone currently costs £69.99 on the PSN store, so it’s decent value.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake will also be coming to Xbox and Switch 2 on 22nd January next year, which will be followed by Rebirth afterwards, though that remains without a release date.

It’s unknown, therefore, if an equivalent double pack will make its way to other consoles in the future.

What’s more, there’s still the third part of the trilogy to arrive at some point in the future, which is due across all platforms. Will a triple pack of the complete Remake trilogy be released physically? It would seem likely, but don’t expect it at launch if the wait for this twin pack is anything to go by.

The Xbox and Switch 2 versions of Remake will come with Pixel Remaster-style boosts to help progression, which will also be retroactively added to the PS5 and PC versions too.

The sheer madness of Pokémon card prices not only continues on with the latest Mega Evolution set, but gets even more ludicrous. A year back, when putting together these galleries of the highest-priced cards in a set, the bottom end of the top 10 would generally be around $10, with a peak at around $100. For Mega Evolution, our number 10 card is currently selling for over $50, and your eyes will be watering by the end.

Mega Evolution is certainly a great set. It has some of the best pull-rates we’ve seen in a long while, even if it also has two cards that are close to impossible to find. There’s some absolutely wonderful art, with Illustration Rares as intricately detailed as previous sets’ Special Illustration Rares, and a new Gardevoir that’ll be loved for decades to come. It also throws a splendid bomb into the middle of the live game’s meta, with the Mega Evolution abilities destined to mix everything up.

But, we remain in the same situation when it comes to availability. From our own experience, it’s just impossible to find anything released in 2025 anywhere. It certainly doesn’t help that Mega Evolution has its own specific production issues, such that it’s only releasing worldwide tomorrow, October 10, two weeks after the U.S. release. That means populations for cards are a lot lower, and these prices might come down a little. Or it could go entirely the other way, given that reputable European resale markets haven’t allowed Mega Evolution cards to be exchanged ahead of tomorrow, meaning that when more people can finally buy them, the demand will fly up even higher.

Either way, here are the ten most expensive cards in the set at prices that will absolutely horrify you…unless you’ve pulled one of them. At what point does it become somewhat ethically questionable to hold on to a piece of colorful cardboard that could otherwise pay your rent that month? Still not figured that one out, as I look at my Gardevoir Mega Evolution SIR, unable to work out whether to file it in my Gardevoir section of the binder, or upload it to CardMarket.

It took 14-and-a-half years of walking but finally someone has made it to the edge of the world. Of Minecraft.

That person is Kurt J. Mac, and he began his adventure on 28th March 2011 with one goal in mind: reach the rumoured Far Lands – the theoretical hard edge of a Minecraft world – and on Sunday, 4th October, he made it.

Mac streamed the occasion, as he has streamed every footstep of his adventure so far. He was in a wooden boat at sea and rowed forward, and as he did, a strange wall began to arise before him on the horizon, shaped like a top-down view of a world. This, apparently, is the Far Lands.

The Far Lands is a romantic name for a bug in the game’s code, essentially. It’s where the world starts to garble and glitch and break, if a player were to reach it. Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson revealed this bug in a blog post (since taken down) in 2011, and it was this bug that prompted the journey Mac’s been on.

852 recorded episodes later, Mac has made a living from it, gathering a strong following on both YouTube and Twitch. There’s a nice piece on The New Yorker written by Eurogamer contributor Simon Parkin, which picks up on Mac’s story three years in. At the time of writing, it was estimated that Mac, at the speed he was going, wouldn’t reach the edge of the Minecraft world for another 22 years. He has shaved considerable time off of that estimate, then.

Mad Max Director George Miller Makes Silly Pro-AI Comments

Talented creators say the darndest things. The latest one to put his foot in his mouth is George Miller, director of the very good, fantastic, wonderful girl-power post-apocalyptic action film Mad Max: Fury Road, as well as many other great movies. In an interview the filmmaker gave shortly before he’s expected to lead a panel of judges at an upcoming Australian AI film festival (they generated a festival?), homeboy opened his mouth to proudly declare that “AI is here to stay.”

In his interview with The Guardian (h/t real person Megan Garside at GamesRadar), the famed filmmaker said: “AI is arguably the most dynamically evolving tool in making moving image. As a filmmaker, I’ve always been driven by the tools.” If he has any concerns over labor, plagiarism, and Shinra-esque data centers sucking the planet dry, they seem to be, at best, secondary.

But okay, let’s hold off on the pitchforks and torches for a second and hear the writer and producer of Babe out:

It’s the balance between human creativity and machine capability, that’s what the debate and the anxiety is about […] It strikes me how this debate echoes earlier moments in art history.

Miller went on to loosely deliver some pseudo-historical background, comparing AI’s rise to that of oil painting in the Renaissance and photography in the mid-19th century. “It will make screen storytelling available to anyone who has a calling to it,” Miller said, echoing the common pro-AI argument that it’s some kind of democratizing force. “[Kids not yet in their teens are] making films–or at least putting footage together. It’s way more egalitarian.”

There is a degree of truth to some of these statements, but it’s about time we’ve started to have a more honest conversation about the history of human technological development and the intentions of those who own these means of production. These same tools that, yes, may make it easier to mush together some ideas to produce a concept of a movie or piece of art, are not only doing so at extreme cost to the planet (and people’s energy bills). They’re also making it harder for aspiring creatives to make a living doing this work, as those deploying AI are largely doing so to replace functioning, compensated labor in creative endeavors (and other forms of work). Throwing a sentence at a machine to have it spit out a neat-looking idea might lower the barrier to entry, but I’m not sure how denying people the ability to make a living with their art by replacing their ability to make money by producing that art is more egalitarian.

And as to kids “not yet in their teens” making films? Steven Spielberg made his first “movie” when he was but a pre-teen himself, a boy scout earning a badge for an 8mm film, and that was after a youth spent filming model trains to recreate a scene from The Greatest Show on Earth. And he certainly wasn’t the only filmmaker doing such things at a young age.

So remind me again what AI is going to offer aspiring filmmakers that history has shown will already act on their passions? And if AI eats away at job opportunities for young filmmakers in a world where everyone’s just typing prompts into slop machines, how is this more egalitarian?

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle gets New Game Plus and new ending in update celebrating MachineGames anniversary

MachineGames is celebrating its 15th anniversary by updating last year’s Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, following its DLC last month.

The biggest addition is New Game+, which allows players to carry over Adventure Books and unspent Adventure Points, currency, and Medicine Bottles from a previous playthrough. What’s more, completing the game again in this mode will unlock a brand new ending after the credits.

Secondly, the Cairo outfit has been added, inspired by Indy’s jacket-free look in Raiders of the Lost Ark (see header image).

Thirdly, new language options will allow players to mix and match voice languages and subtitles.

The update will be available across Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PS5 from 10th October.

It also brings a number of other fixes and tweaks you can see listed below.

General Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where enemies might linger in their “stumble” animation if you punched them while they’re breaking out of your grab.
  • Fixed an issue where pushing a grabbed enemy into a tight space could leave the enemy detached from Indy but still in the “grabbed” animation state.
  • Fixed an issue with a specific “finisher” animation where the camera would clip through Indy’s arms.
  • Fixed an issue where you could enter wall squeezes while downed and using the “Lucky Hat” ability that resulted in you standing up and unable to progress properly.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause a control-lock if restarting a checkpoint during the middle of a save.
  • Fixed an issue where using the “push” button to open “disguise doors” could prevent you from being able to walk through the door.
  • Fixed an issue where, if you left a level while holding an inventory item, it would be stuck to your hands when revisiting the level

Missions & Quests

DLC

  • Fixed another issue that might cause pipes to be placed incorrectly during the Gladiator puzzle.
  • Fixed the animation of the blackshirt being dropped from the bridge near the entrance to the Gladiator puzzle.
  • Fixed many minor graphical glitches through the whole story.

Peru

  • Fixed an issue where audio was missing in the Main Menu if you quit the game during the opening cutscene.

Gizeh

  • Fixed an issue where the clothes of certain villager NPCs would not animate when the character moved.

Sukhothai

  • Fixed an issue that might cause the boat engine sounds to never stop when you arrive at the rebel village at night.

Iraq

  • Fixed an issue where skipping the cinematic where Indy frees Gina might result in the Siren sounds to never stop.

UI

  • The price of guides and books now show correctly when inspecting them from one of the vendors.

PC Specific Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where binding the interact/use key to be the same as the “buy” button from vendors, it could prevent you from buying items.
  • Fixed an issue where setting Reflections to the lowest quality made certain objects look completely black.

Localization

  • In Arabic, fixed the alignment of the quick-inventory warning text about restricted zones.

DLC The Order of Giants was released in September – it extends the story but doesn’t add anything meaningful to the gameplay.

The Fastest Trick For Earning XP And JP In Final Fantasy Tactics Involves Frogs

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles lets you train a group of newb Squires into an ultra-efficient death squad of hybrid specialists. There are so many neat Jobs and abilities to unlock in this strategy RPG that, in no time at all, you’ll be wondering what the fastest way is to obtain all of them. While there are many time-honored traditions when it comes to min-maxing the grind in Square Enix’s classic, some are more effective than others. And frogs are one of the best (technically they’re toads, but frogs is funnier to say and write).

Every action you take in combat that accomplishes something nets your character XP (experience points) and JP (job points). The first raises your regular level and the second raises your Job level and are spent to unlock abilities. You get more XP for performing actions on characters that are a higher level, and more JP the higher your overall Job level is, with bonuses for having the Double JP abilities equipped (more on that here).

There are roughly three tiers of grinding in Final Fantasy Tactics. The first is going to a place like the Mandalia Plains, killing everything but the enemy Chocobo, and then cornering it so that it keeps healing itself as your characters keep attacking it. The second is unlocking Focus from the Squire Job on every character, keeping one enemy alive in a battle, and then just spending the rest of the time having everyone keep using this ability over and over again. It’s boring and tedious, but it gets results and is easy to implement. The third is having everyone learn a dance or Bard song have them perform it on repeat. It’s similar to the Focus version but requires fewer button presses and neutralizes enemies without killing them.

None of these, however, is as elegant and foolproof as the “Berserker Frog” method.  In this version you bring someone along who can cast both the Black Mage’s Toad spell and the Mystic’s Fervor (Berserk) and Induration (Petrify) spells. You then have them turn a single remaining enemy and the rest of your party into frogs so they deal as little damage as possible. They then cast Fervor to give all of the frogs Berserk so they just keep attacking the nearest enemy. They then cast Induration on themselves to turn themselves into stone so you don’t have to keep controlling them. Your party will proceed to auto-grind for a good long while.

Why not just use the actual auto-battle AI controls in Final Fantasy Tactics? Well, they aren’t always reliable in The Ivalice Chronicles remaster. Set characters with Focus to run away from battle and they just won’t use any abilities. Set someone to just heal allies and they’ll eventually still go and start killing stuff. AI control is fine for breezing through an encounter while you go make a sandwich but it won’t be nearly as effective over the same period of time as the Frog method. If you want to go above and beyond, you can keep multiple enemies alive and bring someone with the Arts of War ability to reduce the enemy’s power and speed before turning them into a frog so there’s no chance of anyone dying.

Some fans still maintain that the Focus method is simpler and faster. You send everyone to a corner of the map, set their AI to run away, and then hope they use Focus a bunch of times before killing the one enemy that’s left. But I find with the streamlined AI in the remaster, that’s just not as reliable anymore. Frogs are the way.

Absolum Review – The Sweet Spot

While the brawler genre is most commonly remembered for scenes of vigilante street fighters beating up gang members or superheroes unleashing their powers, another long-established legacy includes a decidedly more fantastical backdrop, where wizards and warriors battle their way across a scrolling screen, mount fire-breathing dragons, and fling out spells. If that flavor has always appealed to you, I’ve got good news: Your long quest is finally over – Absolum is the platonic form of this simple but endearing structure. You have many hours of glorious hacking and slashing ahead.

Absolum casts players as spellcasting adventurers in a fantasy world overrun by a tyrant, fighting to restore balance and dispel an overarching and incomprehensible evil. Within the familiar story framework, the developers manage to present nuanced and compelling world-building, with a sense of captivating history. Alongside a gorgeous hand-drawn cartoon-style aesthetic, I was consistently eager to see more of the fiction unfold. The game also deserves a special call-out for one of the most hummable adventure musical scores of the year – I would sometimes choose my level pathing purely to listen to a favorite tune again. 

Taking cues from some of the most successful roguelites of recent years, Absolum builds death and rebirth into the narrative’s conceit; the heroes ceaselessly throw themselves into danger and premature defeat, only to level up and try again. I like the way new quests, characters, and conflicts gradually layer themselves in, easing the sense of repetition through consistently new twists.

Each run is also kept fresh by the unique power combos you can craft and the paths you trace across the map. For the former, your selection between a cast of four characters each exhibits unique strengths, which are further enhanced as you pick up different rituals over the course of a run. Maybe this time is the elven warrior beefed up with chain lightning, and the next is the clockwork assassin powered by tidal waves and necromancy. The options for light buildcrafting are intriguing, even as additional global upgrades are purchased between runs to elevate your abilities further. I do wish there were more precise explanations and numerical values attached to each character’s playstyle, but time playing each helps to answer those questions. 

Players can split off onto numerous different paths over the course of a full run, each with varying backdrops of level, enemy encounters, and bosses. Even those layouts begin to change things up, with additional quests and dynamic events that keep you guessing. The effect is that even after battling through 30-plus completed runs, I was never bored or trapped in repetition. Absolum rewards experimentation with different characters, builds, and pathing through an attempt, and I was finding fresh experiences even after dozens of hours.

 

The brawling mechanics themselves are straightforward to pick up, but incredibly satisfying to master. The frenetic battles demand aggressive attacks, juggling enemies, and building long combos. With time, the mastery of dodges, deflects, and finishing moves lets you take on some intense and titanic battles, from undead dwarven kings to cosmic horrors from another dimension. 

Absolum is great fun all by yourself, but it also allows you to bring a friend along for some companionable co-op, either locally or online. Both options perform admirably, and the game is all the more fun with another fantasy hero at your side. While a further expansion to three or four players might have led to overwhelming on-screen action, it does feel like a missed opportunity not to allow for larger parties. But even as a partner deal, it’s one of my favorite cooperative experiences of recent years. Online multiplayer is handled with a clever twist, where story progression is limited to whichever player is further behind (to avoid spoilers), even as both players maintain their overall power levels and global ability unlocks as they play. 

I also applaud the freeform approach to an assist mode, which allows players to customize both damage output and damage received to set the difficulty precisely as desired. The default challenge is significant but not insurmountable; however, more story-focused players should appreciate having an easier route to game completion. Unfortunately, this assist mode is disabled in online multiplayer.

Absolum is a game I’ve wanted to play since I was a kid. We get simple, approachable brawling battles, high production values in art and music, and a richly imagined fantasy world, all wrapped around a narrative that makes replay and progression worth coming back to advance again and again. It’s not a game that is going to change anyone’s opinions about the genre, but it is a brilliant implementation of a very old formula into something that feels modern, deeply replayable, and unmistakably fun.
